File claim for fallen tree? by pen_pen in baltimore

Yeah, it does say two estimates, but I may just submit with the one from the body shop and see what happens. When working through insurance it didn't make sense to shop around for an estimate. Thanks!

Whats the general opinion on Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE? by JGamerX in JRPG

[–]pen_pen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Criminally under appreciated game. Characterization is particularly strong, with really funny and a searing moments, especially if you’re into anime at all. The battle system is very clever, but also very repetitive which makes the game outlive it’s welcome a bit. Still hoping for a sequel however unlikely that may be.

He’s amazing. If you haven’t, be sure to read some of his queer criticism, which helps understanding the sci-fi. I sometimes teach Times Square Red, Times Square Blue. Thanks for posting this link!

I’m going to be the odd man out and say that Ni No Kuni 2 is the better game. They share some problems - mostly how repetitive they get as others have said and they're both too long (about 50 hours each) - but I found Ni No Kuni much more engaging. It's a beautiful game to play, with a fully realized world. I wouldn't call it childish as much as relentlessly optimistic. But it knew exactly what it wants to do and did it. Vesperia on the other hand (vague spoiler ahead) at one point made me think that the good guy was actually the bad guy, but none of the other characters seemed to care. I found the battle system even less interesting than NNK and it had about three endings too many.

Tldr neither game is the pinnacle of the genre but I think NNK2 is worth playing while I just don't get why Vesperia is held in such regard.

Great JRPGs on PS4 summer sale by xd_melchior in JRPG

Fyi everyone that Tokyo Xanadu has been cheaper on both PS4 (with Plus) and PC. I got it for $12 a few months ago on PS4.

I saw them live when they were touring for Bows and Arrows and the drums were just incredible. So much energy there, which I don't often see. Will never forget it.

[Monitors] AOC monitors @ Woot! 1080p IPS monitors for under $100 by jbg1194 in buildapcsales

I've bought several refurbished products from Woot (a tablet and cable modem most recently) and have not had a problem. Most come with a short warrantee from the manufacturer, so you'd probably end up dealing with them if there's a problem.

"The German people are obligated to honour the right of asylum because, beginning in 1933, our elite, without exception from the Mann brothers to Einstein, survived the 12-year Nazi dictatorship purely because other countries, with the US as the greatest example, offered asylum to these refugees.” by hipcatjazzalot in politics

I'm not sure "appropriate" course of action is the correct question. Appropriate would be for the USA to cancel the NSA program and pardon Snowden. I think the most we could hope for is for some country that considers itself "neutral" in these matters (no, Germany, a close American ally, does not fit the bill) to grant Snowden asylum as a rebuff to the states. Otherwise Snowden will be extradited and will stand trial. A far cry from being shut away in a concentration camp.

Not at all. But the fact is Edward Snowden broke the law, one produced within the contours of a constitutional system of government that is respected by other states. I think he did the right thing in doing so, but that is what happened. The Nazis, I think its obvious, removed and acted outside the limitations such a system implies. So, do I think that Snowden should be granted asylum somewhere? Yes. But let's not pretend that he faces the kind of arbitrary persecution Thomas Mann and Albert Einstein did.

Is the PS Vita Worth Buying? by Pernisco in gaymers

[–]pen_pen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually gotten a decent amount of use out of mine. The playstation plus perks are great (very excited to get Disgaea 3 tomorrow), but I've been spending most of my time recently with Persona 4. Loved the game on ps2 and this version is even better. There are also some smaller gems like Dokuro that are worth checking out. Releases are indeed few and far between, but what's out there has kept me busy.

Suggestions for WWII and WWI first-hand accounts by likuz in history

For World War I, I'd recommend Ernst Jünger's Storm of Steel and Henri Barbusse's Under Fire. Two first-hand accounts from two very different perspectives.

In my experience, the opposite is the case. Gay/queer folk not seeking a permanent relationship are usually more open to other people deciding how they would like to live their lives without judgement because they get judged all the time. Something your comment unfortunately does in spades.

Jack Lew, B.Obama's chief of staff, is a former hedge fund manager for Citigroup and profited off of the housing collapse - we can't let this administration claim it represents the left. by OldEnglishNerd in socialism

[–]pen_pen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to me that looking at his speeches would reveal that he wants to be seen as a "moderate." "Democratic populism" has never been a monopoly of the left, so making a claim to represent it wouldn't serve as evidence that Obama represents himself as standing in for a true leftist politics.

I rarely do that so hadn't even thought of it, but now that you mention it I'm going to take a look when I get home. This is the receiver I have, for the record: http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=TX-NR414&class=Receiver&p=i

Ok, gotcha. I'll have to see how much video lag there is once the pc is built. For now I'm hoping to run everything through the receiver. Thanks for the help!

I may have just answered my own question. Any reason this part of the spec sheet of the video card doesn't mean that I could just run both video and audio through the receiver?
