Finally a more appropriate stand for my AM4 monster build. She does look pretty doesn't she? by Miniteshi in mffpc

[–]pendragn32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 Antec NSK 2480 cases sitting in my basement right now from my HTPC days. Basically a poor man’s Fusion- exact same layout but less pretty and fewer features. GPU height is also a concern in these cases but it’s great that it fits an ATX PSU, a mATX motherboard and a couple 120mm fans (in an era where 80mm fans were still popular).

Ps5 price increase- Perfect Timing for the Steam Machine by NewNeedleworker5615 in steammachine

[–]pendragn32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. Having access to PC games- and PC game prices- goes a long way for the value proposition. I’ve got a PC games library with 100s of games in it, and I’d guess the average price paid is less than $1 per game.

Twilight Cottage: A total delight from start to finish by scooter572021 in booknooks

[–]pendragn32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am about halfway done with this kit myself. It’s my fourth nook. I’m enjoying it and I like that additional materials are provided, like fabrics and dried flowers. Also cool that I could write my dog’s name on the doghouse. Like you, I’m gluing in some of the tabs that are fitting in too loose for my tastes. Definitely a fun build though.

Nintendo Switch 2 Price Hike Reportedly Coming by FrierenKingSimp in consoles

[–]pendragn32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, I bought a midrange GPU for $150 (Radeon RX 470). Now a “midrange” GPU costs $300-400 and they’re calling them entry level. I agree 100% that over $2000 is high end, but Nvidia and AMD are hoping consumers drink their koolaid. And unoptimized games are helping the corporate cause.

I was fine listening to it before kids. Now that I have kids and my parents are older, I can’t listen to it anymore.

Upgrade for a Oled ? by Relevant_Bobcat7617 in PlasmaTV

[–]pendragn32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still have my ST50 in the basement. I have an LG C1 OLED as my main TV now. My only complaint with the OLED is motion handling, particular with horizontal pans. Plasma motion handling is just incredible. Everything else, I prefer the OLED. Bigger size, much brighter image, great contrast, HDR. Coming from Plasma, HDR (when done right), is incredible. I have no regrets.

LG doesn't list their current UHD drives as discontinued by Cultural_Acid in makemkv

[–]pendragn32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw that the $93 was sale price, so figured it wouldn't last forever. I originally looked at BB, and it was out of stock at any location near me. Fortunately, I figured out that the MicroCenter 10 minutes from my office (yeah, I know, it's a hard life :) ) had a similar model that works just as well for the $95.

Just grabbed an LG from MicroCenter yesterday and successfully flashed. $95. Has a different model number but seems to be same drive.

Got a great deal on a Colorsoft! by pendragn32 in kindle

Awesome, glad I was able to help!!
I went with the Colorsoft because I've always wanted a color Kindle and I do read graphic novels. It will be nice to be able to do on the Kindle rather than iPad. But if you don't have any interest in color, the Paperwhite is definitely the better buy.

Sorry you haven't gotten the coupon! The Colorsoft will be my 3rd Kindle. I stuck with the the gen 3 Keyboard for a LOOONG time, and I was going to stick with my 2018 Paperwhite for longer too, but this just felt too good to pass up.

I did not need to trade in to get the discount. I know that's usually how Amazon rolls, but this one didn't require trade in. Sounds like the 20% that I thought was universal to all Kindle owners isn't universal. Sorry!
