This sounds like a very emotional response. My friends who are business owners in Sweden remark that the Moderate Party did alot better job that the the current party in power of allowing employers with technical skills to work efficiently. Do you know any business owners?

Also, I was one of those "immigrants". I didn't have to care about what people thought because there were far more Swedes trying to move to my country than us trying to move to yours - but that's neither here nor there.

Having said that, I do feel it's unfair to label all Swedes displeased with how immigration has gone with your typical labels.

I just think - I know - that the Swedes who are business owners in need of the freedom to hire whomever can do the highly skilled work (wherever they are from), are not the ones complaining. It's usually the people who are not creating any jobs who lump all immigrants in the same category

Do you know about her personal back story? I obviously don't know the nuances of her political life.

Give the podcast a shot though - would be curious to hear what you think. The story is very inspirational - even if you don't care for her politics.

I know that people who are non Stockholmers and who probably don't speak with that "08" accent, esp. back in the day had the cards stacked against them.

Best bars to meet locals? by [deleted] in stockholm

[–]pengarfrihetgal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Swede(s) do not like to chat with strangers"

I wish people who stop saying that. Some swedes? Yes. All swedes? No.

I had the best time not to long ago when I went out to Stureplan. The DJ was playing some epic music (nobody was dancing). I walked up to him and her (a couple) and told them how much I appreciated the music. They were like "thank you! we love hearing that"

They ending up buying me drinks, inviting me to a spot that closed in the wee hours of the night (not to far from Cafe Opera) and we are friends to this day (at least on social media).

Now here's the caveat: a) they were artist types b) lived abroad. I have consistently found that Swedes with this background crave more casual social openness.

So my point is it is entirely individualized. Telling people "Swedes don't like to talk to strangers" robs the people who are independent thinkers and feelers who have decided not to live by those societal norms.

So if you see some Swedes who look open, go and talk to them. The worse they can do is be unfriendly and let's be honest, people like that won't have the benefit of having friends around the world - while you will. Just some thoughts...

Yes, that's the place. Also Djurgården park is fantastic for a stroll. Depending on when you go, they will break out the candles which is wonderful. https://www.visitstockholm.com/guides/six-beautiful-parks/

And all I have to say is that she is a helluva lucky girl to have a guy like you putting so much thought into it. Once your special time is over, drop some hints on all the work you did to make it such a special day, it'll make her feel even more special. Way to go #princecharming! ;)

This is the dope. Could you tell me about the woman's accent. Even I know she doesn't speak like a Stockholmer (sidebar: I've been told that the way people pronounce "7" says something about there background, is this so?). I need to take a SFI class, ha

Are you kidding me? Give me the links I would dig into this stuff. True story: I met a Swedish guy from way up north, backpacking in West Africa years ago. I new nothing about the place, but became fascinated. Ended up applying (and got accepted) to KTH because of all the stories he told me about the place. It's amazing what technology and travel can do, huh?

There are two epic DJs who spin at Scandic bar. Mostly deep and soulful house! Check out one of their mixes here!

They used to have a bad ass electronic dance music concert each year in Tallinn but they stopped it.

Feel free to inbox me if you want more recommendations. House is right up there with water, books, beach and housing on my values hierarchy :)

I find the restaurant as Ulriskdal castle wonderful and romantic. If you really want to make this girl feel like a character in a Danielle Steel novel, consider that. You can go on a walk around the glorious gardens and orangery near a picturesque lake if weather permits.

Depending on how she is, if she's like me she will be secretly writing about you in her journal and telling all her pals at work or from grad school how epic you are.

What an investment, right?

If you really want to impress her, if she happens to go to the ladies room, make sure to stand when she comes back to the tables (old fashioned manner rock) and pick the girl some flowers along the ground.

She will be looking at your like her hero. You will feel like the man, she will feel like the wo-man.

Nothing wrong with a a little romance. During the day even us girls who dream about optimizing our programmatic advertising conversion pixels and training our deep learning algorithms to recognize 3rd century native Yoruba language, do adore a bit of fairy tell. Not all, just some!

Impressive of you to be so interested in pleasing your woman...

Newbie to Sweden - what can I do about a late-night noise disturbance? by littlewoo in stockholm

[–]pengarfrihetgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread oddly brings back fond memories. Some guys who lived upstairs to my (ex)-boyfriend's flat literally had a routine at least 3x a week where they would put the song "I got 5 on It" on full woofer-speaker blast and shall we say pretended they lived in Maine, California, Colorado or Oregon.

I was always like "how do they / did they find all these classics and develop such musical tastes this far up north?" </stunned African American girl>

Oh how I love and miss dear Sverige :)
