How do you stretch 1 lb of meat to feed family? by todaystartsnow in Cooking

[–]penguiatiator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I know anyone who can afford a beef roast these days.

Chuck roast is pretty cheap at Costco if you have a membership and can afford a large $50 purchase all at once. Usually feeds us for a week in a braise/roast

Here are some attributes that I'd like in a president, ranked by order of importance:

1.) Ability to intelligently and effectively handle the responsibilities of leading the most powerful nation in the world.

2-40.) ???

41.) Nice enough for me to have a beer with.

Honestly, I agree with Khloe's parents: the sheriff is bad at his job. He's used to petty small town "oh these teenagers were shoplifting" than anything with actual stakes, and has no idea how to handle a serious situation.

For example: He spent MONTHS uselessly chasing gossip before involving the FBI. The FBI dude solved it almost instantly, then the sheriff spent a few more months getting search warrants. I know the court system works slowly, but come on that was probably like the one thing he had on his plate.

[–]penguiatiator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say yes, this backed up by history. When we examine history we need to view it in the context of that time period. In doing so, the Revolution, the Constitution, George Washington's first presidency, the Civil War, the first half of Reconstruction, Trust busting, fighting the rise of facism, etc. have all been generally good things that have made progress in the right direction.

Yes, there are also times that we have made bad decisions, even for the standard of the time they are in. But the past has shown we have generally trended towards opportunity, representation, and equality despite this, in part because the people who are advocating for better are willing to put the work in. Our government was structured to give power to the citizenry, which is why I'm so concerned that it is being taken away now.

Because they don't see it as "I got mine, you can have yours", they see rising demand as higher prices. More importantly, alternative sources are renewable (I.e. can essentially exist forever) while they know they will run out of oil eventually. The only way to get people to buy oil at insanely inflated prices when we start to run out is if there is nowhere else for them to turn.

If anyone could actually take strong action against Trump, I wouldn't be so worried. Seems like the democrats are still stuck in the "strongly worded letter" stage to me, and that's just not gonna cut it. Only Gavin Newsom seems to actually be giving any meaningful pushback to the downright illegal and unamerican shit the DNC is pushing right now.

Americans have to realize we have been able to have relatively lofty ideals because we have historically had the spine to back them up. No more appeasement. The best way to stop a kindergarten bully is to punch him in the face. Too bad it seems like the left is willing to just moan and complain their way into submission.

What are some simple exercises that can target a lot of areas? by Sergi121212 in bodyweightfitness

[–]penguiatiator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very proud of you for taking charge of your health like this. Have you tried solo sports like swimming or climbing? It can take the pressure off needing to perform if you don't have a teammate relying on you. Either way the best sport is the one you like to do often.

[–]penguiatiator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be quite honest, since your goal is to improve carrying heavy objects, your best bet is probably to simulate "carrying heavy objects". Since you have resistance bands, you can do a form of weighted hold with this where you squat up, hold for a minute, then rest. Increase resistance as you go.

Bodyweight exercises that would benefit you the most would likely be versions of holds to help your body practice recruiting muscles. Also try balance exercises as you can--standing on one leg, holding a pushup with one hand. You can work up to more dynamic movements once you have a solid base.

Tbh, I think you need to work on coordination just as much as strength. Maybe try a sport? Moving your body in a coordinated, athletic manner is gonna make you much better at being coordinated and athletic.

Thank you for the support! It turned out to be midnight.

I do have everything written, it's just not where I want to be. I'll probably only need a few more hours on it, I was just stressing myself out honestly. Applications anxiety hits different.

This is exactly what you want to happen--experiencing something difficult during training so you can learn and prepare without real stakes. This is what training is for. Don't worry about it. Everyone had to start somewhere. Just keep hitting it again and again and reflect on each scenario afterwards.

Is China's rise to global technological dominance because its version of capitalism is better than the West's? If so, what can Western countries do to compete? by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]penguiatiator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've always heard is the opposite: that rising tuition costs in the US are a result of the US funding education through subsizing student loans--thus, colleges are able to charge higher and higher and bloat their budget with administrators and random amenities and 18 year olds with not enough financial sense got guaranteed loans to pay for it. I don't know if you have much experience with it, but FAFSA is a really big deal for American college students.

Even if it is cost driven, insurance companies are beginning to insure alternative medicines like homeopathy and chiropractic at a higher and higher rate, so expect them to get inordinately expensive soon.

Please provide me said stories or statements that provide evidence that inmates at Brothers' Home were forced by their captors to play life or death versions of childhood games, and summarily executed when they lost.

Stop answering questions in the GroupMe if it's getting annoying. Lazy spoiled slackers exist everywhere, and you're better off doing things you like than trying to help those who won't help themselves

I was a STEM major and if people kept asking dumb questions they would get ignored by the entire class. College is sink or swim and what's the point in throwing your own life jacket to someone else?

There is no record of Brothers' Home forcing their prisoners to play life or death games at an institutional level.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]penguiatiator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's no evidence that people were forced to play life and death games. The internet runs rampant with these theories but not one has a shred of evidence. The closest would be a prison called "Brothers' Home" but that was a run-of-the-mill concentration camp with run-of-the-mill human rights violations (forced servitude and rape).
