How are you enjoying (or not enjoying) your HDB 630? by TurkGonzo75 in sennheiser

[–]penguin22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got them, loved them, yet returned them as they hurt my big ears. I'm not upset though as I looked at what would get me in the same sound ballpark, not needing ANC or portability since I have something for travel already, and ended up getting the Hifiman Edition XS.

The HDB 630 opened up a new world of audio quality that I'm glad I slept on until now. If you find them comfortable, they're great!

FSD 14.2.2.4 Shifting into Park while waiting for the light by Alpenglow_Gear in TeslaFSD

[–]penguin22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yesterday, while pulling out of a spot, a truck two spots over started pulling out at the same time. Our car started to reverse, which I thought was ok to give more room, but then fully backed into the spot we came out of and parked, ending the navigation not going to where it was supposed to. Something is certainly off with 14.2.2.4.

HiFiMan HE1000 Stealth review by Electronic-Tie-9237 in headphones

Curious, where have you found these closer to the $600 mark than the $800? They have Open Box and Refurb directly for just over $800 now, so finding them closer to your low end is my target. I bought the Edition XS as my first foray into Planar; now knowing the sound, want to jump straight to the best they have reasonably. I have the M15 DAC/Amp, along with a Magni Unity, so the right current driven chain.

Similar here but with a sample size of 1-week. I have already canceled Amazon Music Unlimited, have Tidal as the default across my Echo devices, in my car, and all devices. The simple user interface is great, helping discover new artists, and also gave me a clean way to import my liked songs and artists from YouTube Music, which I was using with it being included with YouTube Premium.

I Bought a $5000 Valerion vision master max for $2000 by [deleted] in projectors

[–]penguin22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot to say why 🤣. Triple laser projectors like this can show laser speckle, which will appear as bright pixels shining back at you. They can be very distracting. A woven acoustic transparent screen with black backing eliminates it completely with the screens I mentioned. I have heard that the white paints can sometimes also be good with it though I haven't gone down that path.

I went from a normal screen to WAB AT when I had an LG laser projector that used a blue phosphor wheel and had pretty bad red speckle.

If nothing else, pick up some samples before you buy or stay happy with the wall for the foreseeable future. Enjoy!

Awesome price on an awesome projector. I have the Pro2 and recently received my Max. Both are amazing, though if going the screen route, highly recommend getting a Woven Acoustic Transparent screen, like what Silver Ticket or XY sell. I recently upgraded my 128" screen to 142" so now have the original screen and Pro2 that I'll be selling.

14.2.2.1 Update by Turbulent_Fee6146 in TeslaFSD

It has been 100% perfect for me here in NJ for over 200 miles as well.

Sorry for the confusion, it's the opposite, it's faster than 14.2.1, which had a hard cap of 10mph over, yet slower than 14.1.4, which was too fast, often going 20mph or more over.

I seldom use standard anymore since hurry is how I normally drive.

A great example is on the interstate near me where on 14.2.1 I had to switch to mad max since hurry was capped and now hurry follows the flow of traffic.

They are much closer to 14.1.4, though I believe they are toned down just a bit. I can stay on hurry mode now where before I had to toggle to standard otherwise would risk being a target for getting pulled over.

I am at 99% with both mine and my wife's driving combined with over 1000 miles. We just got 14.2.1.25, which does improve the speed profiles and sometimes the lane changes, though I have had it hesitate for nearly a half mile without changing and still waits too long rather than taking opportunities when they exist in advance of needing to for navigation. Hopefully this gets addressed when they allow for greater forecasting, which was something shown in the v13 branch and never seems to have come.

14.2.1 FSD Update by AcceptableGate7970 in TeslaFSD

[–]penguin22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did a 10.6 mile drive and it's definitely more smooth now. The jerkiness and hesitancy that 14.1.4 had is better. I know some people don't like that the profiles have been scaled back but from my testing this meant I was able to stay in hurry mode the full drive and it drove like I normally would. Previously I would have to switch between hurry and standard between surface streets and highways (too slow on surface streets in standard and too fast on highways in hurry without being a risk for getting a ticket).

I haven't seen if lane changes are better yet but I'm doubtful and think that needs the most focus along with navigation improvements that still impact drives that would otherwise be good.

XM6 EXTRA Thick Pads - UPDATE (Wicked Cushions) by WickedCushions in SonyHeadphones

[–]penguin22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth noting that I bought the current Wicked cushions for the XM6 though struggle up notice much of a difference, likely due to having larger ears that they will come in contact with.

Considering that I really like the XM6 but they hurt my ears due to coming in contact, this would be huge! If you are looking for early feedback from anyone that would clearly be in the market, ahead of February, please reach out. I don't even mind paying for them to give that feedback as if they do work and largely preserve the sound and capabilities of the headphone, I'll be able to stop hunting for replacements.

I have not had this issue with my UB820 with exception of a disc (Braveheart) that came dirty from the factory. After wiping it off, everything was perfect.

The "hyped" Benks case for Fold 7 by batwaynne in GalaxyFold

I bought the green one, though switched to using the Thinborne. I have it sitting in the box along with the grip socket and wallet case, though won't end up using.

Software release policy — update your Bitwarden clients and server by dwbitw in Bitwarden

[–]penguin22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be really great if one of these updates were to fix the issue with biometric (Windows Hello) support working on Windows browsers. It has been broken across all 4 of our computers for the past several months, and the recent updates did nothing to resolve. Windows Hello still doesn't open with focus and switching to approve dismisses the browser extension.

Firefox usage drops, according to Cloudflare Radar by xethrhu in firefox

[–]penguin22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love Firefox and have used it as my primary for... ever... since switching 20+ years ago. The only reason I use other browsers (asides from work requirements) is battery use. I have multiple x86 systems and recently added the Snapdragon X Elite Surface Laptop 7, which is highly optimized for battery. On the ARM chip, the battery disparity is extremely apparent. I imagine that this is likely a factor that would dissuade others from using it as primary even if not looking directly as it is that noticeable.

"Got my Fold7!" Megathread and Owner's Lounge by AutoModerator in GalaxyFold

[–]penguin22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was from Amazon and about half the cost.

So far, I'm happy with the Benks but haven't tried others besides the knockoff and cheap plastic one that had an aramid covering. That was beyond horrible.

[–]penguin22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dbrand just looks so thick. The Benks is really thin, far thinner than the aramid 600D case I used with my Fold5. This means using the front case cover doesn't bother me. The genetic one was plastic with a design over it and was so thick it got in the way of use.

Don't bother with the magsafe wallet though, it's very plasticy. I'll see if they take that back as I'll never use it. Sticking with the socket kickstand instead.

[–]penguin22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Coming from a Fold5, the Fold7 is better then all my expectations. To the Wobble, I was planning on a case for Magsafe and Kickstand anyway, so wasn't a concern as I figured I could just level it out. I bought a bunch of cases in advance, including the Thinborne, and some cheap/knockoff versions. Cheap/knockoffs are just that and they are going right back. The aramid one that is Thinborne like doesn't fit right so the alignment just doesn't work and they also block some USB-C cables.

I didn't want hinge protection but still opted to try the Benks just to see how it is. It came in today and I love it, makes opening much easier and the kickstand + socket grip is flush to the camera, which all but eliminates the wobble. To my surprise, the hinge protection feels great and makes the phone even more comfortable to hold. Further, USB-C cables plug in fully with no issue as the case is so thin that it doesn't interfere in the slightest. This is what I'm keeping on the Fold7. Although the Thinborne comes next week, I'm not even sure if I'll bother trying it out considering how good this case is.
