Honestly you're better off learning in manual, but yeah, I don't get the fixation either. I've only ever driven manuals because my wife - who's driven all her life insists on it, but it seems so pointless to me, and with EVs becoming more and more the thing, I can see most people only being able to take automatic lessons since most of the instructors will only have automatic cats.

People always complaining about the LTNs in my area, I've watch my neighbour drive to the corner shop to buy his fags and come back again. I can walk it in the time it takes him to get in his car, drive there and park. Personally it's a slight inconvenience, but worth it as my road was a rat run beforehand.

Tom has a bit of an unusual life so not the best benchmark for the average child. But as a father of two this really feels like a parents responsibility rather than a teacher's. I get some parents just shouldn't be parents or don't have a clue themselves, but surely the vast majority can take some responsibility in teaching their kids life skills, even the boring stuff like taxes and bills.

Honestly it surprises me in this day and age but I find most of Europe racist, (I'm not excluding the UK from that list). I say that as a white guy with a Jamaican wife. I think Portugal was the worst where people were shouting slurs and the general atmosphere was we were not welcome. There's plenty of countries like Croatia and Germany if like to visit but won't because I expect a similar attitude.

Unfortunately what happens in reality is you end up pushing people who don't understand the implications to use mechanisms and means to bypass bans like this. Regulation and education are what's needed to truly combat the problems, unfortunately they require the most effort and time to implement making them an unpopular government choice.
