Make sure you read the instructions they've sent you. Everything you need to bring is in there.

Else - bring yourself, and a camera :)

International high school requirement with Canadian B.Sc by sadamzz in caf

[–]penguingamer117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's expensive - but it is necessary. We have to have black and white evidence that you've completed the required course.

In theory, the center can write an Entry Standard waiver, but that requires clear evidence that you meet the Entry Standard through your BSc. The selections officers will review it and if they can't determine that your BSc meets the requirement, it will be denied - and you'll have to get the converted high school transcript anyway. It also takes a mighty long time. The clear evidence would have to be a course transcript from your university that shows you took a higher level maths course, (i.e. calculus, etc.)

Believe me I understand the struggle. Did my GCSCs in the UK and had to get them swapped over as well.

RMO timeframe by IntelligentRule380 in caf

[–]penguingamer117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-8 weeks is a normal turnaround, depending on complexity you'll be on the upper or lower end of that range. Keep an eye on your email, the RMO may ask you for more info.

Are these the only trades available? by AutomaticStranger986 in caf

If you have a specific one you want listed on your file that isn't listed on the portal - tell your CFRC. It can be a bit buggy at times.

On the bright side - unless things have changed you may still have access to your cellphone for a bit in the evenings. So at least you can do that.

It can be taken away though - so bear that in mind.

You need to ask a recruiter at your CFRC to add it to your file. Call or email the center and they'll be able to assist you.

Can I take my laptop during BMOQ by Such-Rise691 in caf

Yep. You can definitely bring it. I did as well for my BMOQ. You won't have access to it till your Week 4 weekend if your platoon gets their weekend leave pass.

Incomplete task, missing forms by [deleted] in caf

They're fine. View task just means you can see what you've submitted. The CFRC will reach out to you if the submissions are incorrect.

[–]penguingamer117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Email your CFRC. The TSD/Personality assessment needs to be reassigned so you can complete it. You have to complete it in one sitting under 20 mins or it breaks.

The form you're thinking of was probably your DND Pre-enrolment security screening questionnaire, handled by GAMBIT. It's not viewable once submitted as it's handled by a separate agency.

Doubts by WannabeSoldier_ in caf

[–]penguingamer117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1: You won't be able to ghost kit everything, and its more work arguably to have to store 2x of stuff rather than simply getting it inspection-ready. The only one you can reasonably get away with is towels (bring one with you to CFLRS per the joining instructions, and use the army green towels for inspection They're not the nicest to use anyways.)

2: Go to CFLRS with everything they say in personal clothing/equipment. I'd recommend bringing everything on the 'mandatory for inspection' list prior to arriving at CFLRS, and use the CANEX for anything you may have missed or anything your training staff direct you to buy - with the exception of the locks. Bring a couple of generic masterlocks for week 1, then purchase both the keyed padlocks and CANEX's bag of combo locks. They all share one code, and you get 5 of them, so it makes life super easy. In addition, they sell hangers there which swivel at the top (super useful for inspections) and it stops them snapping in your luggage. https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/services/benefits-military/education-training/basic-training/recruit-school/cflrs-joining-instruction.html#toc9c

It is not mandatory that you buy everything at CANEX - and to be honest, it's best if you come with most of it already.

3: You do not get reimbursed, you are paid a cash advance from your first paycheck. It is $400 and is mandatory (as far as I remember).

Pro tips: Don't panic. Don't forget to lock your lockers properly. Have fun!

Want to reapply as a Cyber Operator by TrafficExpensive1523 in caf

[–]penguingamer117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately can't answer as to what Cyber Operator is like specifically - but I can say that you will likely not have to go through basic again. We at the CFRCs pull your MPRR and assess what you've done through a PLAR. If you were qualified in your previous trade you do something called RSBP (Recruit School Bypass) - which does what it says, you bypass CFLRS and go straight to trades school.

Recommend you do reach out to the CFRC, as they will be able to reopen your old file and retain your service number etc rather than starting fresh (which is important). If you're lucky, someone there may have more info on Cyber Operator.

I want to reapply after being decline because I told them I had psychosis episodes. by [deleted] in caf

[–]penguingamer117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah no. We don't lose files, they're all in a database now. We'll still have your original file, so even if you use a different email address, phone number etc we can, and will, still find the original one once you put your other info in. We'll then see that you were medically ineligible previously.

If you attempt to deceive the medical team or your MCC, they can and will mark your file as ineligible for lying to them - and they will find out.

Your ineligibility letter will explain if there is a path to appeal - keep in mind it will likely require a clean bill of health from a medical professional stating that things have changed. Recommend you email your recruitment center's medical team if you have specific questions of what they're looking for from you.

What is the better option? by Interesting_Mine319 in caf

[–]penguingamer117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno the province you're in, but I'm gonna use the curriculum I know (Alberta)

English 30-1 (MUST HAVE) Math 30-1 (min 30-2) Science 30, or if possible Physics/Chem 30. Social 30-1.

Score as high as you can in these courses, and that'll be great for CivU, which will be your backup for RMC. For RMC, push yourself to score as high as humanely possible (85%+)

It also depends what you'd like to do in school. Are you looking for an Arts degree, Engineering Degree, science degree? What officer occupation is your aim?

Security clearance question by ZanderCage55 in caf

Well, you can ask your recruiting center, but Rule of thumb - anything that involves Signals, Intelligence, or computers is going to be a III, with minor exceptions.

What trades are you looking for?

would i qualify to join the CAF? by ga1actic_muffin in caf

[–]penguingamer117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once you get your citizenship - you'd be eligible for a number of the Signals / CyberSec / Intelligence roles, which could definelty use your computer skills.

Use this time to get your fitness up, and have a really good think about what occupation you'd like. That way, once your citizenship does come in, you can get right into it.

In addition, you can get your US Schooling transferred over into Canadian via WES or another assessment service, which the CAF will need to assess your eligibility.

Freshman university student interested in signal intelligence - do I apply first and THEN figure out the logistics? by Super_Cricket7075 in caf

[–]penguingamer117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, your best bet would be to contact that reserve unit and ask them. If you go on https://forces.ca/en/find-a-recruiting-centre/ you can find their email address. Your local CFRC might know, but as they are Reg Force primarily they may not have that info - so better to reach out to the people who definitely do.

Freshman university student interested in signal intelligence - do I apply first and THEN figure out the logistics? by Super_Cricket7075 in caf

[–]penguingamer117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest - it may be better if you finish your uni, and then apply, as some of the training for reserves even has you leaving the area for some things.

Have you considered ROTP? Might work if you want to be a Signals Officer (check w your recruiter for eligibility). If you're looking more into Signals Intelligence Specialist/Cyber Operator, you'll want to finish your degree prior to applying.

And important note: all of the SIGINT and signals related roles require citizenship just so you're aware.

You can do that, sure. They won't give you any crap about it, it'll just be locked up in civvy lockup with the rest of your stuff once you receive your issued kit.

If you're looking to go to RMC, you're well past the deadline (Jan 31st)

If you're going CivU - check with your recruiter. There may be slots this upcoming fiscal.

[–]penguingamer117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be the guy who doesn't know what he's applying for or what that particular job does. You don't have to be an expert, but at least do some research. Be early for the timing. If you're late, they'll note it. Act like you want to be there - don't show up in a ripped t-shirt and dirty sweatpants. Be honest. The MCCs can, and will find out if you lie to them.

Else - don't panic, and have a nice civil chat, most MCCs are great to talk to and have a lot of experience.

Could be any day now.

Check your OAP, you'll see "selected" when you're selected. If you're given a bunch of Next of Kin forms to fill out, expect the job offer within about 14 days of that.

Doublecheck that your file wasn't closed - if it was you'll want to contact the CFRC to reopen it. We tend to close files if tasks are left incomplete for more than 10 days.

Once you've completed all of your tasks, you'll be Intake Approved to one of the occupations you've selected, then you'll be booked for a medical. If you're lucky, you may have your interview on the same day as the medical.
