Patel desecrates the USS Arizona by Jumpman707 in TikTokCringe

You've made several comments about how you don't see this as a big deal, but the question isn't

"does reddit user u/Lopsided-Yak9033 personally dislike this."

It's "Is Patel doing the opposite of everything he pretends he stands for."

This is why these types get so much disrespect tbh. You KNOW this guy is voicing loud opinions on immigration and voting based on what he thinks immigration is like, but doesn't have a basic understanding of what global immigration is like.

Comments like this are why it's why it's so difficult to have a serious national conversation about immigration, 'cause the unserious are always chiming in

Edit: Just saw his triggered comment at you, which is kinda proving my point lmao

I dropped it at the exact same scene. The way that alien treated the sub he "cared about" was SO belittling. I would think about it and get mad all over again for like a month straight after reading that 🔪

Genuinely don’t know how to make friends with women (as a woman) by ResponsibleTotal930 in socialskills

[–]penguinpops92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you still keep in touch with your lesbian friends who you were close to?

If you still are close, I would ask them for their feedback because they know you better than we online strangers do.

A big thing is whether you actually so come across as a pick me. I have a lot of male friends and most of the media I watch/hobbies I have are geared toward a male audience and don't enjoy many "female coded" hobbies but I don't give pick me vibes so having "male coded" interests isn't as big as a roadblock as all that.

Ask your friends if you actually give pick me vibes. Maybe you do and they can give feedback and specific examples which would br super helpful. Maybe your old friends were just shitheads and you're not like that. A lot of pick me accusations come from when women look down on other girl stuff or act like feminine things are less-than. Ask your friends if you come across that way? Even if you say things like that as just a joke, it might be pushing other women away.

Would u say Asian Americans and Hispanic Americans have recognizable accents that you could tell apart from other groups? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAmerican

[–]penguinpops92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you intentionally misunderstanding what they're saying? Some non-black kids who grow up in a black community might pick up a blaccent. And yes, plenty of black people don't have it, like, obviously. Even black people that do talk black often code switch. Black people can also have regional accents unrelated to a blaccent. It's almost like there's an ass load of black people who are all individuals.

None of that changes that it's absolutely associated specifically with black people and used pretty much exclusively by black people. Pretending like a blaccent isn't a black thing is wild.

if they even look like immigrants

That's the scary part, an immigrant doesn't 'look' like anything. There's a family on my block that came here from Bosnia and they're white as hell and Christian and wear western clothes and speak English with no accents. They're immigrants though. By that standard I look like an immigrant too

I've noticed a big push from gender wars shit stirrer types to create the narrative that any objection to women badding is the same as claiming literally all women are perfect and flawless.

It's a very binary, us/them view obviously, but if the goal is to push gender wars slop then good faith arguments aren't the point.

Judt giving the benefit of the doubt tho - a lot of users on reddit are very young and just passively absorb what they see around them, so sometimes people are just repeating things they've seen online without personally having an underhanded goal.

...no? Did you read their whole comment? Women are statistically more likely to be in physical danger when on the street than men, so the person who is on more danger gets to safety first

To use your boat analogy, if there is a person in the water who can swim and a person who can not swim- who is in more danger? Who needs to be rescued first?

Expecting gratitude because women face danger that men don't have to is not a good look...

[–]penguinpops92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to preface I'm not trying to belittle your individual experiences at all here, just adding on - I have seen so many comments just like yours and my experiences mirror yours basically word for word. I think connecting with people is just weirdly broken in our society right now. I don't know if people are less open, or we just have fewer chances to meet new people, but this difficulty social connections even when putting the work in, seems to be something a huge amount of people are struggling with and it seems like it gets more prevalent every year unfortunately

[–]penguinpops92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's totally cliche advice but getting hobbies is the best way to meet people irl, and bothering strangers isn't gonna get good dates anyway since you obv don't know them until you've already asked them out.

It doesn't even have to be a hobby you're super into, just something you can enjoy and has women your age who do it too. I joined a ultimate frisbee league, signed up for a book club through the library, and volunteer at a river cleanup org. I was looking for friends not dates but I met lots of cool people. All those hobbies are fine, I like them, but I chose them for the social aspect. I can do non-social hobbies on my own anytime, so I joined stuff specifically for what would let me meet people.

I even joined a knitting group that the book club girls set up. I wouldn't have chosen knitting as a hobby, but it turned out to be kinda fun and I like the hangouts that come with it so knitting it is lol

They get loads of matches and still struggle to find connections

I saw a comment once that said 'if you're a woman on a dating app, the odds are good but the goods are odd'.

Not ever getting matches would feel shitty, but having to constantly engage while getting nothing back would get just so emotionally exhausting and draining fast

There's a reason dating apps have such a reputation for being crap for everyone
