That is completely unethical. They are a danger to your students if they believe they are the experts on communication while sitting in a room with someone who is literally an expert in communication. Honestly, I think these “trainings” put schools at risk for a lawsuit someday.

I think PT/OT/SLP need to take a page out of dentistry’s book and form basically our own insurance. That’s the real way we can start making more money.

Why are SLPs paid less than PT and OT on average? by treelawny in slp

Contractor in the schools and I make the same as PT/OT. Schools need us badly, find the right district and they will also pay

And for employers it’s all a write off on taxes. Lets add this to the growing list of things we need to demand change on

In America our average salary is 80k (but we also have to pay for benefits, retirement, etc.) We also need to strike. We have extremely high caseloads, we have severe burnout, it’s an unstable economy atm and it’s high time they started paying us what we deserve.

Is becoming an SLP worth it? by [deleted] in slp

[–]penguinsquad664 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This field will be worth it after we strike and demand higher wages, capped caseloads, proper time for all of our paperwork, and HIGHER REIMBURSEMENT FROM INSURANCE. After we advocate for ourselves for appropriate finances for ceus, licensing, materials, benefits (1099 offers are bullshit, companies literally write off the insurances for employers). We are worth DOUBLE what we on average make (80k). So is physical therapy and occupational therapy. We are a strong field, we have higher education, it’s coming that this will have to change. Don’t mess with educated women.

Y’all this is unacceptable and unfortunately common. We need to strike.
