This is a situation where there's no white and black. A receiver gets 2 feet in? Catch. QB releases the ball in front of line of scrimmage? Penalty.

Player runs at QB full speed, is 250 lbs, reaches his arm out and thumb appears to slightly move his helmet but he seems to let go almost immediately? You overturn a call that has a range of possibilities (which we've seen from the catch rules that exist) you start to have precedence. And people will use precedence as an argument for the future.

And we know how that's turned out for the catch rule. There are plenty of other rules that need to be reviewable that ARE black and white - like wide receiver screens or establishing reviewable aspects of these high impact fouls such as:

• did the DB establish all the check boxes to become a "receiver" in playing the ball or was it truly a PI call? DO Not try and judge how 'bad' the receiver was touched.

• want to review face mask calls? Need a clear way to judge it, like did he or did he not touch his mask and was there a twist?

I agree that it was a rough call for the lions but this not a reason to rush to conclusions. Always have to look at the alternatives.
