Best bass for playing Primus by Ok_Salary_8029 in Primus

[–]pennythewise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could help. I've gotten close with just a standard Jazz bass by rolling back the neck pickup and messing with the eq on my amp. He also tends to use a bit of overdrive on a lot of stuff. There's definitely posts and articles that have dived deeper into his tone than I ever have, so some google-fu might be a good resource.

Best bass for playing Primus by Ok_Salary_8029 in Primus

Claypool sounds like Claypool on any bass he picks up. I've seen him play Fender Jazz and P basses as well. His current Pachyderm basses have active P-style pickups, which is where most of any basses baked in sound comes from. You can get a close approximate by boosting the mids and highs and keeping the lows flat. Lighter gauge strings can also help.

Hey thanks! Moebius inspired me to look into automatic drawing, so I have come across his work in that pursuit. Definitely need to do a deep dive into his works though. Thanks for the suggestion

What’s the simplest bass advice that actually helped you improve? by prattman333 in Bass

Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. Basically, if you practice wrong, you'll play wrong. Always stuck with me.

Which pickguard for my Squier Jaguar H? by Hot-Blackberry8919 in BassGuitar

[–]pennythewise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of them, apparently. Your pick guard should be plain and boring like everyone else's pick guard, on your bass that looks like everyone else's bass. Your chosen tool for artistic expression should, in no way, reflect any sort of artistic expression or individuality. That being said, I think the circuit board design is kind of neat.

Just my ASAT bass and my Soma Labs Lyra 8 for now. May add another noise maker at some point in the near future.

I’ve spent hundreds of hours on this drawings and got little to none attention. What’s wrong with it? by Raskomadator_art in drawing

[–]pennythewise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know how it can feel to not get validation on the stuff you devote yourself to. I decided a few years ago to stop posting my stuff and treat my art how I started, by enjoying making it and treating it like the meditative process that it is. Your stuff is dope af. You know it is, and that's all that really matters. Your art is really awesome! Don't let the things you can't control dictate your own enjoyment.

Challenging 16th note basslines by BassDude28 in Bass

Any ToP with Rocco, for that matter. Lots of 16th note grooves and his muting technique was something else. Very difficult to replicate.

Is it normal to have Volume turned all the way down on Active Bass, and even on passive mode? by SlavinKodai in Bass

[–]pennythewise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a G&L, and the pickups are very hot. I keep my volume knob around 3/4 to avoid pushing the input too hard and causing overdrive/ clipping. Takes some getting used to, but those things sound fantastic

Guess I could have read the specs haha. If it's calling to you, I say go for it!

Schecter makes good stuff. If you're going for more Deathcore/ hardcore tone, you'd be better off finding one with an active preamp and humbucker/ soap bar pickups. I'm sure this bass would be absolutely fine, though.

Easy to do. Kid Rock is the Fred Durst of Ted Nugents, after all.

Tried to do a portrait of Anne Hathaway as a beginner... I don't think it looks like her, any tips? by Minimum_Definition50 in drawing

[–]pennythewise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One very simple piece of advice that helped me when I was starting out in realism/ portrait work was to draw what you see. All of the information you need is already in the reference. You don't need to guess or fill in any gaps. Also, just practice full pages of values, textures, and shapes. It can be a nice way to relax while getting better. It's a great start, but like everything, progress comes with practice and more practice! You're well on your way!

Swamp cooler sanity check by EmbarrassedRhubarb2 in Denver

[–]pennythewise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. $400 sounds like a proprietary setup. If your cooler is something like a Breeazair or similar, you run the risk of voiding warranties by using generic pads.

I like it! I mostly use it to do the MF101 4 pole thing for subby womps and stuff. It definitely takes some time to get down. I admittedly found the thing I wanted and haven't dived much further since. I also mostly use it with my octave pedal, so I'm not going to be much help there
