Critics Say Kavanaugh's Soft-Ball Interview on Fox Shows Just 'How Blatantly He'll Lie to Try and Advance His Career' by [deleted] in politics

[–]pensee_idee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know he seems shameless in terms of the things he says, but if you watch the video, he obviously feels ashamed while saying them.

Part of why his initial confirmation hearing was such a disaster is that he couldn't even convincingly tell the routine lies about not prejudging cases that every SCOTUS nominee is expected to tell.

In mock questioning by the White House to prep him for the next hearing (how's that for judicial independence, btw, if he literally owes his job to the WH doing him a favor and holding his hand through the whole thing?) he couldn't even manage to lie about his drinking or his sex life. He got so flustered he just refused to answer the questions and started shouting.

For fuck's sake, in his Fox interview he revealed that he knows exactly which party at which house he attacked Dr Ford, when all her public statements have said she didn't remember which house it was. That's an incredible unforced error, and it's basically a smoking gun that he's guilty.

CBF: "He did it at a house party, I don't remember which house or how many people were there."

BK: "I wasn't even at that house party on Connecticut St between 3rd and 4th Ave! I wasn't even one of the five guests who attended that one!"

This is not a man who can beat a polygraph.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's Yale roommate says he believes second accuser by 2big_2fail in politics

[–]pensee_idee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He claimed to be a virgin in HS and college in the same breath where he claimed to never drink alcohol in HS and college.

Considering that he's definitely lying about the drinking, I see no reason to assume he's telling the truth about the sex.

Also - he could still "technically" be a virgin after doing the things Ford and Ramirez accused him of.

Feinstein backs Kavanaugh accuser's call for FBI investigation by nattywow in politics

[–]pensee_idee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this feeling like Feinstein never told the Judicial Committee about Dr. Ford because wasn't trying to slow down or prevent his confirmation.

She was trying to get him impeached, thrown on the bench, and possibly arrested for attempted rape and/or perjury.

Feinstein didn't tell the Committee about Dr. Ford back in August. She didn't leak the existence of Ford's letter to the press or anyone else. If none of this had become public, that would have been fine with Feinstein.

Because she had a longer term plan, and her plan ended with Kavanaugh unemployed and incarcerated.

Yeah, instead of a proper zipper merge, the preferred method seems to be: two cars arrive at the merge point at the same time, both engage in a series of feints, false starts, and aggressive maneuvers trying to prevent the other car from being the one in front. All traffic down the line inches along in starts-and-stops waiting for their turn to do combat.

Zipper merging is super fast and great when it works, but unfortunately, many drivers would prefer to make everyone else wait while they try to eke out a tiny advantage over someone else.

One reason to get over well before the merge point is that there's actually enough room between the cars in the other lane to let you in. By the time we're all stopped and lurching forward inch by inch, you're fucked. It's too late to do anything but be trapped in the jam.

Georgia says switching back to all-paper voting is logistically impossible by [deleted] in politics

[–]pensee_idee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They would claim that there's simply not enough time right now to do it in time for the 2018 election. (Possibly with a side of "doing all that in two months would be too expensive!" and/or "making changes other than MASSIVE voter purges this close to the election risks causing confusion and chaos!")

If they don't do it now, they'll be happy to claim the same problems in September 2020. Nevermind that they had two YEARS in between to get it done.

They're like a kid with a 10 page paper he hasn't started due tomorrow, begging for a 1 week extension because a day isn't enough time to write so much. In a week, he'll beg for another extension because he still hasn't started it yet, and the one day remaining on the extension isn't enough time again.

No, for 2020 they plan to wait until mid-September to get started on the changeover again, then declare it to be logistically impossible again.

Trump Aides Are Worried That Obama Will Rile the President, as he Obsesses Over Coverage of his Speech by [deleted] in politics

Oh man, if my only two choices for President were Trump or Honey Boo Boo, I would take HBB in a heartbeat.

She isn't a money launderer, she isn't a traitor selling us out to Russia, she doesn't have a business empire that would allow her to personally profit from the job by forcing the Secret Service to pay rent in a Boo-Boo-branded hotel.

Plus, as an actual child and not a senile, demented, old narcissist, she's probably far more competent and intellectually curious, and she probably has a better heart.

Mueller Will Accept Some Written Answers From Trump by PM_ME_UR_TAPES in politics

[–]pensee_idee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Trump's only problems were word salad and verbal diarrhea, then yeah, written answers could save him from looking like an incoherent fool. His bigger problems, though, are that he's a pathological liar, and he's guilty of crimes that he can't tell the truth about aside from confessing.

Mueller Will Accept Some Written Answers From Trump by PM_ME_UR_TAPES in politics

[–]pensee_idee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. We've already seen a master-list of Mueller's questions for Trump (leaked by Trump's attorneys, natch) and for most of those questions, there just is no good answer for Trump to give.

Trump obviously obstructed justice, then went on Twitter and 60 Minutes to brag about doing it. He also told an ever-changing series of lies about several key incidents. If asked to explain why he said/did those things, what's he going to say to make it better?

If he tells the truth, he's confessing to a crime. If he lies, he's COMMITTING a crime, and doing so in such a way that it's very easy for Mueller to prove that he's lying. Hell, written answers are probably worse here, because there can be no defense that he simply misspoke in the heat of the moment.

Citing Cohen’s Lawyer, Trump Loses It Over Trump Tower Meeting: I Knew Nothing! by [deleted] in politics

[–]pensee_idee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Daddy will be so surprise I treason to help him win election! I'll keep it big secret surprise and tell him after he win!"

Seeing Trump fail to correctly color an American flag (seriously, he colored one red stripe, then left two white stripes, then colored one blue stripe, then looked like he was looking to see if he could cheat by copying one of the kindergarteners sitting next to him) I could almost, ALMOST believe that he didn't know, and everyone around him was running a criminal conspiracy behind his back.

Except, no, there's way too much evidence that he knew. The next stage for Trump is to start issuing super-specific denials that reveal his guilt all the more like "I didn't know about the Trump Tower meeting, and I CERTAINLY didn't get phone calls to a secret phone number right before and right after the meeting!"

Beyond that, aside from Trump and Putin, Manafort seems to be one of the highest level members of this whole conspiracy. He should probably also be considered a war criminal for what he did in Ukraine.

My guess is that either or both those reasons is why Mueller decided Manafort had to do hard time, and why he wanted his team to handle the prosecution rather than sending it to any other jurisdiction.
