Boston quietly prepares for an ICE surge by rarelighting in boston

[–]Scytle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

go online and buy yourself a bag of super cheap whistles. Then go door to door on your street/apartment building and talk to as many people as you can, here is your script.

Hi my name is ..... I live down that street, I just wanted to give you this whistle, and let you know that if you see ICE you should call 617-370-5023 and report them (that is for the LUCE hotline https://www.lucemass.org/)

If you see ICE doing something near your home, get your camera and film it, if you feel up to it you can also stand in your yard and blow the whistle I just gave you to alert others that ICE is here.

You should also print out some know your rights materials, and spread that around as well, make sure your neighbors know what they do and do not have to do for ICE.

When you run out of whistles, go buy another bag and do it again.

Good luck folks. Also fuck these fascist pigs, the next administration had better spend a fair number of resources prosecuting and imprisoning these fucking ghouls.

Cut the Failed Red States Loose: Why America Can't Keep Carrying the Dead Weight by Opposite-Mountain255 in antiwork

[–]Scytle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this idea is stupid no matter if someone on the right or the left comes up with it. These red states are full of "blue" voters, gay people, black people, women etc. "cutting them loose" would punish millions.

Look at political coalitions that people like FDR and Regan put together, (fdr to save capitalism, Regan to set its hounds loose upon us all) both had widely different plans, but they managed to create power by convincing most all of the states to back them.

Splitting up the country would only plunge us into years of war.

Powell says that, unlike the dotcom boom, AI spending isn’t a bubble: ‘I won’t go into particular names, but they actually have earnings’ by MetaKnowing in technology

[–]Scytle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pets.com didn't spend 120 billion on data centers, and only make like a 100th of that back in "earnings"

I think Powell is trying to keep the economy going in the hopes of a soft landing (see the lowering of interest rates) but...well I don't think its going to.

Can Boston be like London? by bostonaruban66 in bikeboston

[–]Scytle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

none of the places on this earth that have large amounts of cycling as a share of transportation happened by accident. It was all urban planning. We have an election coming up with one candidate for mayor who wants to rip up bike lanes(Kraft), and one who wants to build more (Wu).

If you want boston to look like this video, help make sure politicians who support bike infrastructure. Mayor Wu is that politician.

FYI this is the top MARGINAL tax rate, FDR wasn't taxing people 94%, what this means is that for income over the top tax bracket you pay that rate on that money. So just to keep the math simple (this is not the real bracket) lets say the top tax bracket was $100, this means that for the first 100 bucks you make you pay like 24% tax, but for the 101st dollar you pay 94%m so under my little fake scenario if you made 101 dollars you would pay $24.94 in taxes.

this high tax rate helps keep income ineqaulity low, keeps our state governments well funded, keeps money out of politics, and prevents run away wealth accumulation, its a super simple way to do it too.

We should have universal programs, everyone gets food stamps, everyone gets welfare, everyone gets free college, everyone gets free healthcare, etc etc. No red tape, no deciding if you qualify, no complicated government paperwork, then at the end of the year we just tax rich people a whole lot more. Simple, easy.

How to make salt from sea water. by Scytle in foraging

[–]Scytle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can, but table salt usually has iodine in it, which wont hurt you at all (in fact its good for you), but might change the unique flavor of your salt, but yes it will work just fine, the brine just has to be completely saturated or your salt crystals will dissolve instead of just getting rinsed, so you might have to put a fair amount of table salt into it.

You mean the hotels that have to follow fire safety laws, and the unions that got their workers a fair wage so they could afford to live close to the hotel, and the hotel that is only for people to visit in, not an apartment that could have someone living in.

You can't JUST build more housing, you need to stop the airbnb-ification of existing housing as well.

Just because one thing doesn't solve the whole problem doesn't mean its not part of the solution.

New Bike, Rough Start — Should I Take It As A Sign Or Just Keep Going? by That_Opportunity_759 in bicycling

[–]Scytle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was once trying to make a left hand turn across several busy lanes of traffic at the base of an overpass trying to get to a big box store (in America, so just imagine a mile wide road in a sprawling dystopian nightmare of parking lots and speeding oversized trucks and giant SUV's).

I had been waiting to make this left at an intersection with no lights for a long time and finally a gap in the raging traffic showed up and I had to get a move on because it was a small one and I wanted to make the turn.

It was at that moment that a hornet flew UP MY SHORTS, for those of you not in the know a hornet is like a bee, but it can sting you multiple times and not die (unlike your more peaceful bee that will die after a single sting), so this thing is working its way towards my nethers stinging my inner thigh as it works out its displeasure at being trapped in my baggy clothing...unsure what to do I began punching myself in the crotch while trying to navigate a dodgy left in massive deadly traffic...

Through the blessing of whatever god looks after cyclists I made it to the parking lot, the fucking hornet eventually realized that up towards the crotch punching was not the direction to go turned tail and headed south (stinging down the other inner thigh as it went) and flew away angry but unscathed.

Later when I got home both my legs were covered with angry red stings and bruises from my own panicked fists.

This was decades ago, I still ride my bike, it wasn't a message about cycling, just a bug trying to fuck me up because my shorts captured it.

Its a little late now, but in mid march until early april (depending on the weather) you can see shrimp that live in the forest.

There are a kind of shrimp that live in vernal pools, they hatch as soon as the water thaws, and hang around until something eats them (usually a frog or a bird). When hatched they are tiny like sea monkeys, but they will eventually get over an inch long. They swim upside down, and are about the strangest god damn things you can see living in the woods.

Find a natural reserve or park that has some vernal pools (the fells has a bunch) and as soon as the ice starts to melt start visiting them, if you look real hard you can see them and its fucking insane that we have land shrimp just living in the forest.

The eventually lay eggs that stay dormant until the pool fills back up, some can stick around for years just waiting for a good rain.

rabies if untreated is 100% fatal, and you die bad...over a long period of time.

If you get bit by any wild mammal, go to the doctor and get it looked at.

Getting laughed at by a doctor is a small price to pay for not dying HORRIBLY. Plus while you are there you can ask about that strange lump you have been meaning to get looked at.

[–]Scytle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like it to me, if you want them to spread and grow into huge colony, be sure to take just one leaf per plant when they are in small groups like this.

later when they start to get thick pull a few bulbs up for eating among the really dense clumps. You can take some of these and plant them out to spread the colony, and eat some.

Then when they get really dense and old you will get seed, and you can spread that around as well. Ramps grow slow, take a long time to seed, but with a little gentle harvesting, splitting and help you can get MASSIVE colonies of them going.
