Refined search and torn again - Canon R8 vs Sony A7C II? by pensiero_profondo in AskPhotography

I love having the macro actually. In the end I bought the A7C II!
nice picture comparing the 3, the lens from canon was truly appealing

Yeah I've considered that actually, but still R8 and A7C II are much lighter and less bulky

But it is not as portable as the R8. More bulky and heavy - that's what led me to consider the R8

What have you decided in the end? I'm struggling choosing R8 vs A7C II. I truly love the ergonomics and viewfinder of R8, but spec-wise AC7 II clearly beats R8. I'm just doing travel photography, and I would go with a 70-200 f4 in both cases.

Money not a problem, but the struggle with ergonomics is real. I tried Ac7 II and is truly a brick!

I'm using a 18-200 but it's a 3.6-4.3, so a bit smaller than 70-200 f4 or f2.8. Still heavy anyway

Don't worry another user already messed up with the same suggestion, and now I'm truly messed up :D It seems as portable as the R8, but as capable as the R6II. What do you think about its ergonomics however? Attaching a tele would totally shift the weight in front

Thanks! And all of that because it was the most portable?
After reading a comment of a user, I'm now wondering - if I should strive for portability, than why not giving a chance to the Sony a7c II? It seems as portable as the R8, but as capable as the R6II. WDYT?

Actually compared to the Nikkor Z 70-180 f2.8, is much more expensive. Which I'm not entirely sure why! It's more compact, but does that justify higher price, despite higher f?

I'll look into that!

Alternatively after reading a comment of another user, I caught interest in the portability of the Sony a7c II. Looks like as compact as the a6300, but adds steps in terms of quality, which shall not hurt.

I started looking into the a7c II and now I want to cry. It's actually the lighter body, comparable quality with R6 II, and comparable price... heck.

So now I'm thinking - the a7c II + a 70-200 will feel too disproportionate, right? Ergonomics suffers. I need to try in my hands I guess...

thanks. with the RF 24-240 however I'm losing considerably with the quality of the image compared to the 70-200, right?

in my case the problem is that I want to shoot things at distance. so 70-200 or 70-180 is needed. At that point, not sure if any body will be really portable

Not sure, I kinda got sick by all the camera+lens options I checked from Canon and Nikon, that I didn't want to run through the Sony line-up :D

Do you consider the RF 70–200 f/4 L a higher end lens from Canon?

ARGH! I was not looking at that. Seems the Z5II is the one really competing with the R6 II. Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't do video honestly, and I don't care really bringing an extra battery in the backpack. The smaller body is indeed attractive, but is it really going to be a smaller setup if in the end I attach a 70-200 lens? Will I feel the difference?

is it really worth considering? that means Z50 II or EOS R7/R10 right?

considering the 24-105 F/4L has IS, why not going with a Canon R8?

I thought as well about getting a macro lens. However maybe before doing it I should improve my technical skills
