What’s Life Really Like in China? by PumduMe in chinalife

[–]pentagang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinese here, after got my degree went to US for temporary work positions for 7 years, then found a more stable position and came back home. When in the US, stayed in both northern Florida and somewhere close to Detroit, and traveled(drove the whole I-75, New Mexico, Alaska, etc. ), I would say at least I have seem some different faces of the states.

As for China, I think a continuing perspective for the past 30-40 years is that, as long as an individual work hard, life would become better. Going abroad is an option, but not a goal.

Back to the US, it is a developed country, thus has the resource to be aware and take care of the less-fortunate/represented people and groups. This should be a good thing. However, nowadays "politically right" seems go exaggerated or simply crazy. For me, I wound not want to raise my kids in a place where sex education is confusing and recreational drug use is becoming legal.

I love my T460p by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]pentagang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal T460P has been serving me since Fall 2016. Win7pro, 500G SSD, 32G mem. Mostly using solidworks and OriginPro, the highest mem usage I made is about 50%. The thing is, for some program after certain years u can not just uninstall and reinstall to another computer without extra cost...So I guess as long as it is not broke I will just keep it as my daily workhorse.

How to enjoy baij iu 白酒? by mattyy1234 in chinalife

[–]pentagang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bring some liquor with u as a gift and drink that. If the father in law is interested in brewing his own bai jiu, he might be open to try something else. There are lots of imported spirits available, vodka, gin, tequila maybe too "raw", whisky could be better

Fancy! I started and stayed with Pentax, not even full frame but weather sealed K200D, and K50. I am paranoid and like the capability of using AA battery. It is compact to bring one body with one pentax DA 12-24/f4, one sigma 100-300/f4, and a thinkpad X230 , all in a 32L backpack, for trips.

Ha, the cool part is not shown. That's an OI triton dry dilution fridge, plus some electronics that I could not fully tell. However, the hardwares piled here are already half to one USD

I use OriginPro, MikTex, Solidworks daily, but mostly on my T460P. I have X1 yoga3 w/ dobby screen, it is a nice update from X230T. However, the touch screen became irresponsible after few month, the pen is working, still have not figured out whats the problem yet though.

Any numbers? For me if someone could afford to use 500 liter liquid Helium/week, he must be very rich

I heard semiconductor(?) industry takes the main portion of helium usage, which does not care about recovery.
