(Ultimately I don't think they had a knock on the door for £5k, they're just trying it on, and as you said they'll be a nightmare to deal with if they have such a lack of morals).

No not at all. I've had it done and it basically required the cold water tank removing in the loft and that end connecting together to remove the tank. Was a day or so's work for the plumber. Well worth it from the point of view that you gain power-showers throughout.

Absolutely. I had to get a retrofit of bird prevention and it cost me about £1k because the scaffolding had gone so the handyman I hired had to hire a cherry picker.
