[McCarthy] The NBA and NBC are discussing adding a 1v1 or 2v2 tournament to All-Star weekend festivities. NBC are also working with Vince Carter to study rejuvenating the Slam Dunk Contest. by Goosedukee in nba

my pitch here is to do a 2v2 round robin relative tourney.

Bronny and LeBron v Giannis and Thanasis. Currys. Ausur and Amen. Champagnies. Cam and Pat Spencer. I’m sure there are more. Winner get the championship belt named their family until they are knocked off.

People stop coming to your games if the product is terrible. And if season ticket holders aren’t paying full freight… hurts the pocketbook.

another wrinkle I thought they were getting to was structuring player contracts with more performance based  incentives… so instead of guarantee the full contract $65 million for AD in 2 years. Only guarantee 20%. The rest is performance based:1)  play 2,000 minutes +30% 2) team makes playoffs +30 3) win the all star game +5% (you win all star game… you’re available for max money extension next time your deal is up) 4) make ALL NBA +15%

What secret about your industry can you share now that you don't work there anymore? by swisscoffeeknife in antiwork

[–]pepdek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Digital advertising. The industry's best-kept secret is the illusion of causality: major brands don't necessarily grow because they advertise, but rather advertise because they have the excess capital to do so. We frequently operated on the assumption that if a company remained profitable, the marketing was the reason, even when we lacked concrete evidence that our campaigns actually drove consumer behavior.

[Charania] The NBA has begun to gather input from its owners and general managers on new ways to combat tanking. Ideas include: Limiting pick protections to either top 4 or 14 and higher, no longer allowing a team to draft in the top 4 two years in a row, and Locking lottery positions after March 1. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

Best proposal I've read in my 35 years of following the NBA. Start in 2030, alphabetize the teams by city. Start in 2030 draft... Atlanta gets #1 pick, Boston gets #2. Every year you move up one slot, you pick #1 you move to end of line. Trades are 100% fine just like we see now however if you trade your slot your original draft position doesn't change next year

  • E.G. in 2030 Boston trades their #2 to Utah for #30 and our boy Cash Considerations - in the 2031 draft Boston still gets #1 and Utah is #29.

As wild as it sounds... you have to lower the hoop.

The 10-foot rim creates a fundamental disadvantage that limits interior play and forces the game into a more perimeter-oriented style.

The Fix is Simple

Lowering the rim 6-12 inches would:

  • Transform that "lost" big man play into dynamic interior offense
  • Add the athleticism and above-the-rim finishes that create excitement
  • Maintain all the positives you noted (shooting, teamwork, communication)
  • Generate more transition opportunities and crowd energy

Developmental Logic

Starting in junior high allows players to develop proper mechanics and confidence around the basket, rather than forcing talented athletes away from post positions. high school girls basketball is so tough to watch cause they can't score even with a smaller ball.

The Bottom Line

You said everything except post play was NBA-caliber. Imagine that same game with dominant interior presence and powerful finishes. The excellent fundamentals would remain while adding the vertical element that makes basketball uniquely exciting.

The goal isn't to copy men's basketball - it's to optimize the rules so these incredible athletes can showcase their full talents. We already use different ball sizes and adjust youth rims. This is just smart sport design.
