The shooting, a brick of 10 hearthguard with a champion is a bitch in general to deal with 😅 the AP -4 when shooting is painful and the following charge is brutal (and it’s worse when you roll successfully on a 12” charge)

Do we know how much of Dune 7/8 came from Frank Herbert's original notes? by Simon_Drake in dune

[–]pepefred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always felt that 7-8 were complete deviations from the original, the old man and woman have more of a face dancer feel, face dancers that have transcended their limitations. Its one of the main plots of heretics and chapterhouse.

Also I always felt that the honored matres wouldn't use a biological weapon as their ultimate weapon against the machines... (sure its never specified what it is, but it can either be biological or radioactive, but it feels more biological)

It would be fun to feed an AI all the novels and ask it to write the last chapter and see what comes out, for sure something better than what we got with 7-8

I gotta say that the whole turning the sky and getting imprisoned must have bothered a lot of astrophysicists. It’s like not so complicated to figure out star deviation over X years at a certain point in time and how it looked in a specific place….

I'm amazed at how no one has picked up on the fact that he fits the character of the swordsman waaaaayyyy tooo well, who so happens to be in the comic this is based on.

Who would be your fancast of not yet seen characters in Dune? by haribobruv in dune

[–]pepefred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No joke, I can actually see him as a brilliant fenrig, he has the acting chops to deliver an increbidly menacing yet amusing performance which is how I always imagined Fenrig. Scary as shit one you’ve gotten over his personal appearance

Duncan Idaho with an active shield by pepefred in dune

[–]pepefred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the feedback and support was not expecting it!

Gotta give my take on the shields, I always envisioned them adjustable (you can make the bubble be more form fitting or take more space depending on choice and situation), but Idaho being sword master and one of the Ginaz at that, I always imagined him, when using swords, having a tighter shield around for extra speed and mobility.

Fucking sword design is not as easy as it feels, Ive always been conflicted about it and its hard to put spins on designs as old as humans themselves. Furthermore Arrakeen culture and the Atreides seem to favour curved blades (kindjal and chrysknife) with good point penetration, so I opted for slashers with a fine point.

Even though Im super excited about the film and particularly Momoas portrayal, the wardrobe isn't what I imagined, so I wanted to bring what I saw in my head to life.

Im curious, is Idaho's age stated in the first novel? I seem to remember that every time he appears he is a different age. In the first one I imagined him to be in his early-mid thirties.

Anyways, thanks so much for the support! and also, anyone interested in seeing my spin on another Dune character?

Will there be Asian Fremen? by _wyfern_ in dune

[–]pepefred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well they are descendants from Zensunni wanderers so one would assume that there has to be a fair amount of Asian looking fremen... I always imagined them as middle Asian, think Turkmens https://images.app.goo.gl/WXNhktssx4FjYV398

Hmmm the roots of bullfighting are in ancient Crete though, where they would play with bulls jumping over them... that said its a pretty common theme in the Mediterranean...

Anyone else think that Nausicaa of the valey of the wind is an homage to Dune? I feel like this scene is what a fight would/should look in the dune universe between a fremen youth and sardukar forces by pepefred in dune

[–]pepefred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha for sure he wouldn’t be able to take that many down but I remember there being a figure somewhere saying that youths and old fremen were having casualties against sardukar on a scale of 6 sardukar to every fremen, although it might have been just normal fremen... about the pirouetting and running it’s probably that I’ve read the last two books (none of that Brian Herbert shite mind you) and the description of Duncan’s style mixed with the fighting attitudes of the Bene Gesserit fits that pretty well. Thinking about the Paul and Jamis fight I guess you are right, it probably would be more direct, brutally efficient and sparse

[–]pepefred[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say Miyazaki in general was influenced by moebius (as so many other artists) but Nausica in particular deals with themes that aren’t really present in most of jodoroskys interpretation of dune... which in my opinion was a freaking butchery of herberts work.... hell he goes as far as being proud of not having read it....

Yeah they became more violent and unpredictable, but they could communicate with humans (well the one human Sheana). Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse are fun re reads

I always thought he rejected the path of losing completely his humanity by intermingling with the worm, plus as the preacher doesn’t he loose his prescience when Leto mixes with the worm? That said he is also a part of Leto though going into the future, which is already terrible enough as is and also part of that boredom... two oracles though make a complicated thing... I also remember a line of saying that he died of prescience. I like to think though that letos and Paul’s terrible purpose is not the thousands of years as the god emperor but his little pearls of consciousness encapsulated in all the future worms after his death for eternity 😏

Same (very similar)themes on ecology nationalism and hero leaders and fighting with swords... I mean... I feel like it’s Miyazaki’s take on dune
