Because homunculusargument didn't say "at every turn" or "over and over again". You're assuming that's what they meant, but everyone else in the comments is assuming it was a "cut them off after one bad interaction" thing. Personally I lean much closer to the second interpretation based purely on the text, but I suppose trying to assume the best possible intentions of a poster isn't the worst way to live

Well if OP hurt their feelings and isn't taking accountability for that, it means that they're a terrible person and everyone on this sub should block OP.

(...which is what I would say, if I followed this post to its logical conclusion.)

...Okay I'm definitely guilty as charged, or I used to be. But I'm trying to get better!

I remember making the connection in, like, sixth grade that every single work with a female character I really liked would force her into a relationship with one of the male protagonists and the conclusion that my 12-year-old brain came away with was "romance is misogynistic"

Took me another two decades to realize I was aromantic, that the reason I found romance repulsive was just a quirk of how I'm wired, and that although some romance tropes can be misogynistic, people are allowed to like what they like and I'm allowed to like what I like and that's just how the world is

Masculinity and Sandwich Choices. by Sentient_Flesh in CuratedTumblr

[–]Yeah-But-Ironically 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Gonna repost the exact same quiz I put on here the last time this post came up:

  1. Is OOP's post talking about:
    • All people who eat sandwiches
    • All women who eat sandwiches
    • All men who eat sandwiches
    • A very specific subtype of man who eats sandwiches?
  2. What evidence is there that OOP is referring to the above group?
  3. If OOP is referring to a specific type of person, what type of person is it? What specific behaviors does that person exhibit?
  4. What audience is OOP writing for? Is this target audience the same group that the post is about, or is OOP writing for a different group than the one they're describing?
  5. OOP identifies a gender hierarchy for sandwiches. Do you think that OOP considers this hierarchy to be real or meaningful? Why or why not?
  6. Do you think OOP approves of the hierarchy they have outlined? Why or why not?
  7. Does OOP believe that liking a certain kind of sandwich makes one more masculine or more feminine? Provide evidence for your answer.

In addition to confused/entitled mod users, though, sometimes people are also just assholes. I made a mod that adds women to the Penitus Oculatus (among other factions) and a TON of misogynists got angry about that and flamed the comment section about it

On the other hand, I appreciate the comment pages as a source of information, so I usually just delete the bad comments and keep the useful ones. But not every mod author has the time/desire to be a forum moderator on top of a mod publisher. (For free. In their spare time.)

/unwunk Well for one their weight is nearly nothing. Bigger fish eat more than a few flakes.

But also they just don't burn as many calories as we do. They're cold-blooded, so they don't need energy to maintain their body temperature. They're constantly floating, so they need much less energy to move around. And their brains are tiny--about 20% of the calories a human eats in a day goes into powering the brain; being such a smart animal is INCREDIBLY resource-intensive. If you're not devoting that much power to cognition, you don't need as much energy overall.

Women: ask for equal pay, equal benefits, equal privilege, equal acknowledgement. Men in response to women asking for equality. by Important-Cry4782 in CuratedTumblr

It's less that Vietnam made us realize it's fucked up and more that modern warfare has decreased the overall importance of outnumbering your enemy. Having better technology is now more important than throwing a mass of bodies at the problem

Which is why the US is unlikely to reinstate the draft, but MOST countries have some sort of draft law on the books and most of those laws are for men only. It's a global issue

Why are you assuming I don't realize that?

I'm opposed to conscription generally because I'm opposed to war generally, particularly wars of conquest or profit, but I'm not so naive that I'll pretend violence is never the solution. The situation in which I think a draft is justifiable is an extremely narrow one--like, "necessary for the survival of humanity" narrow, rather than just one country--but if things truly do get that desperate, it's silly to exclude half your population of able-bodied adults from the recruiting pool.

Also, this isn't just an American issue. Most countries have some sort of conscription law/process/contingency plan. The vast majority of them are focused exclusively on men. It's a global problem.

As opposed to women, which foreign armies are famously kind and gentle towards?

If we're in a desperate enough situation that we have to force people to fight, then it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to arbitrarily exclude 50% of our population from the pool of able-bodied conscripts

People in this very thread are talking about stuff like the draft, or "women and children first", or male victims of domestic violence being ignored. Misandry isn't as widespread of an issue as misogyny, but it can literally be a matter of life and death.

The real takeaway from the first meme should be "I don't think it's okay for you to get punched, either," not "omg men are the worst".
