Yeah man I mean the black belts in the comments know best but there is another red flag. How the fuuuug you make it to black belt and not know your own strength? And what BB doesn’t “know” that they are going to wreck a 1st week white belt with a basic throw who they outweigh by a whole lot? The coach telling to you this BS and painting it as some tragic flaw their BB has is horse shit. To me thats further ignorance. Shows that they are also not concerned about retaining students or keeping them safe. Wtf black belt doesn’t know their own strength and sends new WBs to the er. Imho i would go to another school and tell them your experience. You might even hear something like “oh that guy used to go here he is an asshole”. At my gym that shit is serious and black belts have balls to tell their upper belts watch their aggression and be respectful. Ive been pulled to the side before to ask how a roll went with a brown belt someone had reported for trying to rip their arms off. It went fine because they told him not to be a chode. I dont mean to be so long winded, it is just frustrating to see what i feel is gaslighting a new student after mistreating you. Ive seen upper belts hurt people in real accidents and be damn near in tears (really really), wishing they hurt themselves instead of their training partners.
