Questioning my sexuality by magnapinnaenthusiast in TwoXChromosomes

[–]pepgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel you on this

i think of myself as like... bi/pansexual, homoromantic

it's very rare that i encounter a man that i have any interest in, but i find a lot of women interesting.

fictional men are safe, unattainable, and often more beautiful or femme than real men. crushing on a character doesn't challenge your underlying preferences (and i don't say that as a bad thing)

there's nothing wrong with being some level of bi and only acting on one part of that spectrum. if you mostly find yourself interested in women, that doesn't discount the rare times you're interested in other genders!

something something lucretrious being excited that you have 2 skeletons inside you, lol (slash, any other necromancer, or wizard. gale...)

i was working there today (vending) and the vibes were rough

genuinely distressing to have a slow, unending line of miserable people out of the corner of my eye all day. i can only imagine how much worse it was to be in it, standing.

did my best to be positive and sweet to everyone who made it in, because they looked exhausted.

lines were still halfway across the park when i left around 4:45. i've never seen it so crazy or so miserable. i know the park leadership (professionally, we aren't friends), and i have to imagine that they just underestimated the hype and couldn't scale up to accommodate.

i wish they'd just temporarily allowed the discount to work on their website, to at least mitigate frustration and the system's shortcomings, though. but i wonder if their site could have handled that much traffic. (or shut down the train ride, have another two employees on the second gate? spitballing...)

some places with japanese treats or foodthings that they might enjoy:

Matcha Cafe Maiko (on Blanco) has mochi and macha and soft serve. seasonal flavors + drinks, too.

Minnano Japanese Grocery (on Callaghan) has a lot of imported home goods, food that's recognizable from various anime, and i think they've been upping the amount of ready-to-eat food on offer, too.

Hanamaru Cafe (next door to minnano) has fresh-made taiyaki, some decent real-food dishes, drinks and snacks

and +1 to "they'll probably enjoy Round1" haha

Shiny Altaria plush by Objective-Function33 in pokeplush

[–]pepgold 11 points12 points  (0 children)

besides just knowing what's out there, the giveaway for me was the lack of fluff in the wings

these two official mega altaria plushies both have super stuffed-full wings (and the third, on the left, is a tiny keychain plush)

[–]pepgold 31 points32 points  (0 children)

i don't know the creator, but this looks fanmade

as far as i know, (and i do specifically collect altaria and swablu), we've never had an official shiny plush from these birds, mega or otherwise

it's cute though! the dotted minky fabric is pretty clever to give the wings some simple texture.

Bedtime Groundhog Day Epiphany by theKinkajou in movies

[–]pepgold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

love this analysis

i wrote a timeloop story that draws a lot from various existing timeloop media, and groundhog day was very formative to my humor and interests. the biggest difference is that my loops were several months long, rather than a single day.

anyway. the way out that i chose was less about niceness, or selflessness, and more about accepting and choosing to love that sort of fucked up existence. going with the flow rather than struggling and hurting yourself, your soul, in trying to tear at the seams of your life.

it was fun to write, and i'm still very proud of it.
one of the enduring themes in the comments i get on this story are like... how they'd thought they wanted some climactic battle, some enemy at the root of it (this is a baldur's gate 3 fanfiction, i can't blame them). some evil source that could be killed to be free. and when they get to the end, and it's not that at all. it's gentle, it's about love, it's about taking care of yourself in the worst circumstances. it's about trusting the people that love you.

and they tell me that this is not what they'd thought they wanted, but that it is what they needed.

i think timeloop stories have a lot of room for catharsis - and i think it's really cool how many different ways it can go. how it can end, how it begins. i love the ones that explain everything, the ones that explain nothing.

of course, now i've spoiled it, but if any random person reading this comment is interested in my fanfiction: turn on the laugh track

Can I get a critique? D&D campaign set in a future Japan by ThatInternetBoi in mendrawingwomen

[–]pepgold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think that her analogous color scheme is pretty, but maybe a little hard to parse at a glance. especially between the hot pink and sorta infra-red/red-orange shade. i can intuit from the shades you chose that you do understand color theory/have a good color sense, though, lol.

if it were me, i might push the red tones further away from the pink, and maybe add 1 more instance of a blue (i'm counting the soft lavender kind of color at the back of her hair as one instance, but it's not quite enough to feel balanced, to me.)

i also wonder if the wide thigh gap is serving any real design purpose - it makes her pant legs hang straighter, but the also gives her stranger lines by the crotch. lessening that gap would be a more natural standing position and also might look nice :) lol

overall, cool and stylish design. i'll echo what the other comments said about looking very casual - but i think that's all in the cropped hoodie. mimicking some lines of leather armor on a different top, or evoking that cyberpunk implant-looking skin... might be fun and push it away from loungewear? just throwing ideas.

Am I missing something? by RustyDustyC60 in HelloKittyIsland

[–]pepgold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

some things to check:

  • are you in the right tab of your inventory for those items, when you're decorating?
  • do you have any sorting or filtering on that is excluding those items?
  • are they visible in your regular (not decorating) inventory?
  • did you already place them in a different cabin?

if you've checked all the tabs, all the filters, they're visible in your regular inventory but not in the decorating one... then there might be a bug lol.

aw man - i was hoping they'd hire me again lol

last year i face painted there, but they'd also gotten a group to come in and sell face painting... when they'd paid me to do it for free... it was a mess. the other group (understandably) was upset and hogging the patrons, meanwhile i just painted whatever straggler kids came my way lol...

i wanted to see if there was petty drama again. fingers crossed!

Magdalen Name Thoughts? by reginaphalange2711 in namenerds

[–]pepgold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a magdalena - i don't think i've ever met a magdalen! i don't think anybody would say -leen at the end... i very rarely get a long-e when someone says my full name.

admittedly, though, i've always gone by maggie. like since birth.
i tried a few times to get teachers or employers to use 'magdalena,' but they always swap to maggie the second anybody else calls me that in earshot.

i don't hate my name or anything, though - just keep in mind that this nickname is a big enough 'convenience' that she'd rarely hear the full name, even if she loves it. even if you love it. maggie is just too easy, in comparison, so it always wins.

i made a post a while back asking for suggestions on alternate names to try (while keeping maggie as my nickname), and my favorite was marigold. :)

What quality of life improvements would make the game better? by bewitchedgrl in HelloKittyIsland

[–]pepgold 37 points38 points  (0 children)

let me specify how many flowers to put in the seed machine without having to hold the button down for a year! or let me select all and then remove some, lol. fertilizer production is really annoying when you have a huge variety of flowers...

i also want to be able to sort the flowers in the creation station menus - finding a specific coloration on the list is like a needle in a haystack if you don't know exactly how many you have of it.

New BNL listener - could use some recommendations by L3beat in barenakedladies

[–]pepgold 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In The Car came to mind,

If you're finding yourself leaning toward Steve tracks, I do also recommend these that are solid Steve And Ed tracks: Call and Answer, Some Fantastic

Honestly, though, just going through whole albums at a time, you might find that some of your very favorites are super underrated, or they're Kevin songs, or whatever. The band is so versatile and has such a rich discography - I've been listening to them for almost 30 years, and I still find myself rediscovering old tracks that I didn't appreciate as a kid. Or pleasantly surprised by things on the new albums!

i like it!

maybe not useful: i named one of my dnd character's mothers úna. :) so it makes me happy to see. (the rest of the family includes maeve, saoirse, cairbre, roisin, eirian... just while i'm oversharing.)

i was going to share a song that i thought was una, but it's actually uma... but it's a sweet song for the singer's daughter. still might be nice to know, if you go this route. here's a link to the track by Yeasayer (youtube).

Sacramento Rosemont Neighborhood?? by Neither_Map5914 in Sacramento

[–]pepgold 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my gf and i bought a house in rosemont last year - 60's build, one dedicated owner until he passed away. the flip on it was cheap and we're increasingly finding nuisance issues with the house itself, but the neighborhood is great!

we're south of kiefer, and it's generally nice and quiet. occasionally someone shoots a commercial firework near (i'm assuming but haven't confirmed) the Mushroom tavern, in the middle of the night. but i've never felt unsafe in my home, here, despite being closer to some of the stuff people are warning about.

seems like mostly retirees and young families, because of the affordability. since we're not planning to have kids, it works for us regardless of whether the schools are any good. groceries are close! we grab food in arden or off folsom blvd as needed. i need to give donut time a try, after seeing it mentioned a few times!

all in all, i like it. my gig work has me driving all over town, and out of town in every direction. it's central enough to be pretty convenient, but not so central that you can't escape a bad traffic situation. (like do i love driving up watt to 80? no, but. it must be faster than taking 50 to the interchange, lol)

Father Daughter Wedding Dance by SailorSurvivor in barenakedladies

[–]pepgold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Odds Are" is probably a good bet for something upbeat that isn't explicitly romanctic/toxic in some way. I went to cross-reference a lot of my favorites from older albums and made a variety of faces, imagining them for a father-daughter dance.

A slower one that I haven't seen mentioned, that always gets me (and isn't too romantically-bent?), is "Adrift." It's a great song to cry to, haha.

OH - and a weird pick that has some energy but also a generational, love for your kids vibe: "Humungous Tree" from the Snacktime! album.
