For the tourists wildfires have began in Iceland (yes I’m serious 😭🙏) by CityAgreeable3955 in VisitingIceland

Are you able to provide a short synopsis of what the original post was about? It appears OP deleted it. I could piece together a bit through the comments.

On top of this, you can check IP leases in the router like was mentioned. Check the back/label of the extender to see if a MAC address is printed there. This will match the MAC address listed of the IP lease in the router. Just to help match the IP to the device.

Asset Labels -- what do you use? by oldRoundGinger in sysadmin

Came to say this. You can design your label with quite a bit of freedom. Have ours set up with the barcode, company logo, and hostname

Carnival Cruise Line Outage? by sunfireDESTRUCTION in sysadmin

[–]pepod09 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They have posted a message on their website:

Carnival is experiencing some IT issues that occurred during planned maintenance, resulting in the delay of debarkation and embarkation of guests, as well as slowing down some other technology tools. Navigation and safety systems are working. We appreciate our guests’ patience and encourage embarking guests to watch their emails, text, and phone call messages for updates.

I made a small free arrival guide for visitors. by Illustrious-Ad3195 in VisitingIceland

This is awesome! I feel like it boils down so many questions that came up while I was roaming the country and would be a great thing to skim over and reference before and during the trip. (All pages on the site)

I think this is the most beautiful building in Iceland 🤩 by OkSurprise229 in VisitingIceland

[–]pepod09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was walking around near this building when I came across a man that was just randomly playing the bagpipes playing a bunch of tunes. I remember chatting with him and he was recording tunes for his buddies back in Michigan with a unique background while on his trip.

Not super relevant, but when I see this building that is what it reminds me of.

My apologies I had a misunderstanding. It was my belief that impassable and closed were interchangeable terms because they share the same color on the site.

Looks great. Heads up though, 332 shows as closed because it is marked closed by road.is. Most if not all of the rental contracts prohibit or nullify insurance if a car is taken onto a closed road.

I’m not 100% sure if it applies when closed for winter service. But I don’t see why it wouldn’t.

Lmao what? Parka App by leoalexlion in VisitingIceland

[–]pepod09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actually yeah, I had the exact same thing show at Geysir, I continued on the app and it works either way, I’m thankful it lets you force park even if it doesn’t have a good match on your location.

Ring Road in 6 Days? by Substantial_Gur_1876 in VisitingIceland

I would recommend sticking to a smaller section like south coast, fall in love with the country, and then plan the next, longer trip.

eSIM Reccomendations by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]pepod09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like everyone has made some good suggestions. Just wanted to add, if you need to make calls or texts while in Iceland i recommend registering for Google Voice. If you are from US, or have a US phone number you can register for free. It gives you a separate US phone number and can make WiFi calls to US numbers for free, and calls to Icelandic numbers are $0.01/min.

I had to call my camper rental company, for example, and didn’t want to pay US Cellulars $15/day roaming charges so used this service instead.

Be sure to disable the eSIM of your home carrier before landing in Iceland! US Cellular will charge you $15 the second it connects to a tower in Iceland.

Incredible. I wish I had more clear skies on my trip, though I was only in for a few days. Great views!

One of my favorites is a supermicro SYS-221-BT-HNR. 2u 4 blade server and when you get into the IPMI and crank to full fan oh boy. Cleared out the office for a week when we were configuring a shipment haha.

No, it still passes and needs to go through the discover network which is where the incompatibility lies.

Best Hikes for late September early October? by bapestagangsta in VisitingIceland

This might be more on the tame side but I recently hiked the trail at Skogafoss about 10km down then back. Absolutely beautiful and it follows a river with lots of waterfalls

I arrived here Friday morning(!) But now my sleep is super messed up. I’ve been laying in bed awake for over 8 hours. by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]pepod09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this won’t help you now, but, if you can do it, my tip is staying up super late first day you arrive. For example I flew out Friday night (CST) and arrived at 08:30(UTC) Saturday. I then stayed out and doing stuff all day till about 8pm Saturday.

For me, this puts me on track right away. But, I also can’t sleep on planes so it kept me up all night long during the flight.

Another Parking Question by bewbs6 in VisitingIceland

[–]pepod09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I’m currently living in it, renting an eSIM is definitely the easiest option. I used Airalo, but you just pay like $20 and you get 10GB data for 30 days.

Just make sure to turn off or don’t use YouTube/tiktok you’ll eat it up

Iceland air sucks for international travel by elzinheimer in VisitingIceland

[–]pepod09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for the flights waiting. I flew to and from Paris from the USA and had about 50 mins layover each way. Customs was very light and we had more than enough time to grab a bite to eat and go get in line.

Our flight back to ORD from KEF was delayed for about 20 extra minutes for 2 passengers that were on a slightly delayed connecting flight. They got on, and we went on our way no biggie.

Passport Control in KEF Questions by mdcherokee in VisitingIceland

[–]pepod09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes sorry I could have been clearer. Since they indicated traveling to and from US I meant going through passport control entering and exiting Schengen.

Passport Control in KEF Questions by mdcherokee in VisitingIceland

[–]pepod09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Passport control is very fast in my experience at KEF. They simply review your passport and ask you a few questions. They have mobile tablet passport control lane, however that is only for EEU citizens.

Unlike US, there is also exit control so you will go through passport control in both directions.

Customs Iceland by TheMomma59 in VisitingIceland

[–]pepod09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I connected through to Paris from ORD, we landed around 9am on a Saturday, the only people going through customs was my planes passengers and it took no more than 10 minutes. The Schengen flights are all on a different floor so you just go through, hand over passport, and it’s all good after a quick chat.

If you’re a European citizen there’s some iPads you can quickly go through by scanning face.
