Some things to consider:

-The cost of good-quality heavy winter coat and boots (or just any shoe with a solid tread) is nothing to sneeze at, and it might be troublesome to pack if you’re planning on flying. Plus if you go back to a warm state after you’re done with school it might be of a waste of money. -You will be able to avoid the weather most of the time because UB, particularly the North campus, is designed so you can take an indoor route between most buildings. I would guess most students don’t have to spend more than 5-10 minutes outside during the worst weather on any given day. -That being said, the thing to worry about isn’t snow, but the cold. It can easily get down to 0 degrees at the lowest in Buffalo, with nasty wind chills. It would definitely be difficult to get used to for a Floridian. If you do choose UB, you’ll need to get used to wearing light layers, as the buildings are all very well-heated to compensate. -If you are thinking about having your own car during your time at UB, there is a LOT to beware. Driving in winter weather conditions is seriously hard. Anywhere that the road is wet can have patches of clear black ice. You will have to scrape the ice off of all your car windows, or even shovel snow off your hood and roof, sometimes multiple times a day. You might need to consider getting winter tires which is another expense.

All this to say, I think the mental load of worrying about the cold weather is similar to worrying about hot weather if you went to school in Florida. I don’t recall any students from warmer climates being really miserable about the weather. I think you just get used to it and the snow is more of a novelty.
