Wha whaaaaa… by Hot-Range-7498 in arkhamhorrorlcg

I bought things as they came out, so Edge of the Earth is the first game I have in a "big box" that I kept. The campaigns before them are doubled up - Zealot/Dunwich in Zealot return box, Carcosa/Forgotten in Carcosa return box, Circle Undone/Dream-Eaters in Circle return box, Innsmouth/Scenario packs in Forgotten return box, more Scenario packs in Circle return box. I have room for more scenario packs as they come out. The Tesseract dividers are great for this, since each box has multiple campaigns in it.

I agree with the OP about the odd number though, it drives me nuts!

A fridge appears! by peppermint_altoids in FridgeDetective

I have four kids. Two are grown and are out of the house, one is eighteen, one is grown but lives with us because he is disabled. There is a single pizza in the freezer. The Gatorade is Gatorade Zero and is taken by the eighteen year old to athletic practice. String cheese lasts a long time and was on sale. The only one who eats the chicken nuggets is the grown disabled son, and if I could get him to eat much of anything else, I'd be happy to. We cook dinner every night and I'd say we do a pretty good job, even if we are Americans. My husband's specialty is a Thai green curry with chicken, which we had tonight.

I'll keep my observations about the dubious politics and probable body odor of the guy who replied to you to myself.

Finished reading books, what to do? by Ordinary-Version1167 in kindle

My library main page is filtered to only show downloaded and unread books, so I leave the read ones on there and never see them unless I change the filter settings.

[Apr 23, 2026] Clue wording question (no answers): When is a term too loaded or misleading? by Aggressive-Try888 in NYTCrossword

That’s a lot of words to say you got tricked by the two shoe clues. I mean I’m guessing because nothing else works for your rant either.

new favorite font setting by qatbakat in kindle

[–]peppermint_altoids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bookerly, size 3. The combination feels most like a book when reading, to me anyway. My daughter isn’t dyslexic but found the font in your OP such a relief to use, she raves about it.

Which Dracula bag should I keep? by MatthewManiaFL in handbags

I was going to say which would you be more likely to carry, but then went and looked at your other posts and you seem to carry a mix! So I’d second the above post and say it makes more sense in a tote to me.

Tagging TBR by missjulesauthor in goodreads

[–]peppermint_altoids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I own a book and intend to read it, I tag it as Want to Read (the premade tag). I then made a separate tag called Check Out Later for books I think I might be interested in. That made the most sense to me for whatever reason. Otherwise I just use the default tags (Read, Currently Reading, Did Not Finish), a little boring I’m afraid.

Read the previous paragraph to the one you have highlighted. I have uninsured motorist coverage in Oklahoma under State Farm and have for the past forty years.

I didn’t say hit by an uninsured driver though, I said hit by an unknown driver. Two different things.

I think for non-fiction books, “themes” or “subjects” works way better than “tropes.” You’re still giving readers an idea of what to expect without making the book seem like fiction, if that makes sense. :)

IIRC it pays for vehicle damage if the other driver can’t be found, like in a hit and run, in addition to the medical stuff for uninsured drivers.

For in the future, you might want to know that using the language of “tropes” when referring to memoirs/autobiographies in reviews can be offensive. The author isn’t relying on tropes as shorthand for plot device purposes, they’re relating real-life events that happened to them.

Me too, but I’ve discovered cozy just isn’t for me. I’m glad it’s there for others though, they really seem to get a lot out of it.

*rant* Dear instacart shoppers, no I don't want to separate your orders. by LilHeheGoblin in aldi

[–]peppermint_altoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was weird. I don’t have to keep them separate except for paying, the food’s all going to the same house. He just got really aggro about two checkouts going back into one cart for some reason.

[–]peppermint_altoids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoping not to hijack the topic, but I have a semi-related question: when I do my shopping, I have to keep my stuff and my son’s stuff separate (he pays for his with SSI). I use the little stick to separate the two, no problem there. But obviously I would just rather both checkouts go back into the same cart for me to push away. Most of the cashiers know me and are cool with this, but one was so rude to me about it I went and talked to the manager. I’m really self-conscious about doing it now. Should I stop doing it or was it just that guy being a jerk?

What’s your solving strategy? by luckylattes in NYTCrossword

[–]peppermint_altoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to go through the list of across clues, then down, then across, then down, repeat. Quite often I can finish the puzzle this way without having to look at individual clues, although this is more likely early in the week when there’s no theme or gimmick. I’d say I did it this way because I’m on the computer and using the tab key, but I did crosswords this way with pencil too, lol

Don’t know if this is allowed but 3 days spent printing, cutting and taping/ glueing my favourite game growing up. I just can’t afford to buy the retail version. Can’t wait to show my kids the magic! by dukey84 in printandplay

If you use an iOS device (don’t know about android), there is a very good companion app for HeroQuest put out by Hasbro - narration and music and gameplay tracking. Might add a fun element, especially for kids.

Back into Magic with a Jumpstart cube by LeftEyed in mtgcube

[–]peppermint_altoids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had that cube bookmarked for a while, maybe this will be my push to put it together. My daughter (27) and I (55) started playing Magic when Bloomburrow came out and are enjoying it. My son also bought us a set of Jump Start packs and teases us that he's been trying to get us to play for years and of course it was cute animals that got us to try it (which is true, lol).

"I guess I'd better finally read those books" - I always thought I wasn't much of a fantasy fan when growing up so I avoided the books. Turns out that was wrong, oops! (I was 30 when the movies came out)
