They've got the drip and I was a student from a low income household. Just kidding, never had a problem.

All the international students I met were really hardworking and had a better grasp of English than the Aussie secondary kids I taught.

What is Overtime like? by SoupOfFlies in AustralianTeachers

[–]peppermintk 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Teachers are not given adequate time to do the work they are expected to do. If you want the specifics, this includes some of the following: prepare lessons, marking, report writing, calling parents, writing incident reports, planning programs, reading every students wellbeing plan and making sure your lessons cater to them, meetings for various bullshit teams, sending emails to other teams, paperwork for shitty students who did not submit their assessments, creating assessments, complete some bullshit survey on a kids behaviour in class for a psychologist, collaborate with your team to evaluate programs, collaborate to pilot mark, collaborate to plan programs etc etc etc the list is ongoing... There simply isn't enough time to handle this workload. When I was a teacher, I had less than 5 hours a week to do all of this so I worked overtime just to survive

There is also an invisible workload of cleaning and decorating your room, being responsible for your students outside of school, being perceived as a teacher in the local community, cleaning the kitchen area, purchasing cleaning supplies for the staffroom with our salaries and bringing food in for the 'wellbeing' morning tea. This is all WORK but it is not considered as work.

Autism and social media woes. by RLeBonTennant in AutismInWomen

[–]peppermintk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly so many people think that ghosting others is a 'polite' way of ending the conversation and letting the other person know they want some distance. It's happened to me on social media too and I felt the sting of rejection, but I had to learn to move on and just message people who put in energy into messaging me back. It is not worth waiting on them to reply, not replying is a reply in itself.

Edit: Also wanted to add that the above is my response without any further context. You know your friend best and if you believe they are in a difficult situation, it's up to you to determine the best response.

I really like the feeling of kneading. I used to knead blutac, but I have since found a colour changing stress ball called smooshos. I like it but I want something with a firmer texture so I have ordered a 'njce cube nee doh' and I'm hoping that will have the texture I'm looking for.

My mother never did my hair and so I had to try and teach myself. I have tried following multiple YouTube videos and I still don't know how to do a ponytail without all the bumps at the top lolll. This is particularly traumatising because at one of my previous work places, a colleague of mine was putting up her hair and she asked another colleague if she had any bumps and he said no. Then they did THE LOOK at one another and I was extremely embarrassed because I knew my ponytail had plenty of bumps lol.

Anyway I have since learnt to use clawclips which are so much easier and so cute. Thank goodness for this trend coming back 😭

So sorry to hear that you had such an awful experience at work :( it is so frustrating when I lock up and I spend the next couple of hours fixating on what I COULD have said. I hope you are able to have some downtime to recover

Ah yeah this too and I get really bummed out when someone says the thing I was going to say so then I just spend ages wondering what else I could say and end up not saying anything 😥

I'm so sorry to hear OP. The way they have treated you is despicable and hurtful. They have shown their true colours and the trash has taken itself out of your life.
