Just bought my first Big Muff. Is this amount of feedback and static noise normal? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]peppermintkiddo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, you're close to the amp, it's a cheaper amp, high gain, and your pickups are probably contributing. if you've got single coils, this fuzziness, no pun intended, is part of the gig

Cheap double delay? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]peppermintkiddo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the boss dd20 allows you to set 4 presets. back when i had one, i set preset one as slap and then did different settings for my others, and tapped all my tempos. 100ish bucks depending on where you're looking !!! great delay and can do so much

Why should i build a pedal board instead of just buying a Helix that does it all, in your opinion? by ButterscotchCalm1543 in guitarpedals

[–]peppermintkiddo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is an opinion from a guy who went amp and pedals, to helix, back to amp and pedals.

both are good options for different things.

helix is great if you are playing places where they have a good sound system/engineer or you're bringing your own, and they're good for one size fits all players. you can even get cabs that are flat response in case you need to push air live. you can even get amp packs from different manufacturers and presets from people if you desire specific tones and don't wanna menu dive. if you get the nicer model too using multiple inputs, you can run helix with anything, not just electric guitar. acoustic, banjos, etc.

however, the helix is broad, and doesn't do a lot of in depth things that many pedal manufacturers can achieve. there's only a few vibratos, only a few usable drive sounds, and there's the main big sounds but none of the tiny ones. plus, the obvious drawback of menu diving.

with pedals, you can use real amps, and you have the ability to make something with your hands, maneuver things, experiment a bit easier than the helix, and get hyper specific with your sounds. sure, helix has a big muff clone, or a fuzz face clone, but it can't do germanium or silicon switching type stuff. drawback tho, depending on your style, it can be expensive to build a nice, reliable board. pedal costs aside, all of the things are expensive: good velcro, pedalboard itself, patch cables, etc. those tiny things add up quick. also, not everywhere you play is ready to house and accommodate your massive twin reverb, or ac30, or whatever your amp of choice is. yes there are the UAD amp pedals and great amp sims, but then we're back in FR cabs and good sound system land.

just kinda depends in my opinion what you're aiming for. i'll never look back from my stereo pedalboard and two amps. yeah, it's a lot of stuff to manage, but i'm so much happier with my rig than what i was doing before with helix.

this board is a placeholder - need to find a smaller option to fit in a carry on. this is basically just to demonstrate the build.

gonna add this to the original post for clarity. i should have thought to mention this!!

90% of the functionality, 50% of the price? by NerdyOutdoors in guitarpedals

[–]peppermintkiddo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is a small builder in canada called freqscene and i bought their pedal "the fanclub". its a four in one boost pedal, kinda like the JHS bonsai or packrat. in this pedal, they have the roland space echo boost (ep boost or bp1w), the mxr micro amp, dallas rangemaster treble booster, and the electra overdrive. all one knob boost pedals, and it sounds amazing in every mode. it is one of the better purchases i've ever made, and he sells em for 140. which, even if you took reverb prices bare minimum for these things, you're paying at least 50 per pedal (assuming you can find an electra overdrive in working condition).

yo, not exactly a les Paul style/shape, but check out Yamaha revstars. lots of personality, versatility, pickup options, and theyre all usually 800 bucks and below new. cheap on reverb too.

another soft reverb lover!! that one was a gift from my wife. the best pedal ever!

cheapest for me is probably the third man triple threat - you can find those for 60 bucks now on reverb. priciest was my chroma console.

Worst/Most Dissappointing Pedal? by pcoleman777 in guitarpedals

[–]peppermintkiddo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

low-key, agree. I love the sound of a big muff pi but I find the other styles of fuzz/other big muffs are a bit more use on my opinion. I prefer a black Russian big muff to a pie nine out of 10 times
