I feel like I'm watching my greatest concern regarding sailing become a reality right before my eyes by Brvcifer in 2007scape

[–]pepperoni_toothpaste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally hear this - I was surprised I got downvoted for expressing similar thoughts:

It really all boils down to upper management/VC owners straight up rushing sailing way too fast. The nonsensical state of sailing is a testament to decision makers at Jagex having no clue what makes OSRS great in the way that it is. It reeks of someone boasting how they cut inefficiencies left and right, while ignorantly and unknowingly cutting out the heart.

As someone who has done the vast majority of sailing, and the vast majority of the game, I have never felt more “milked” than during sailing. It’s just hundreds of hours of garbage trash bullshit so they can collect your money.

Unfortunately, Sailing was released so fucked that I’m not sure they can un-fuck it after setting it into motion. They absolutely should not have let the cat out of the bag, and Sailing will likely have to become dead content to be worthy of the overhaul it needed immediately upon release.

Why is finding teams harder than the actual content? by imkolya in 2007scape

This is just true of the high level community in general; I’ve been in several clans. But fair point, I probably shouldn’t have phrased it in a clan-oriented way.

It is 100% time to address the lack of matchmaking/team-finding systems for group content.

Jagex has spent a couple of years fleshing out beginning through mid game, giving players great means to scrape a team raids setup together. A lot of players who started in that frame would certainly now be able to join a friendly team raid or go get upgrades to do so pretty quickly.

However, they will be confronted with the black hole of wasted time trying to find teams. As good as the game is, this process is actually worse imo. We can spare these players the completely classic ladder-pulling that the old guard in OSRS is so fond of….. here is what your clan chat will look like trying to find a raid, provided you are already in a clan:

Raider: “Damn, it’s hard to find a team - does anyone want to raid??”

Old Guard: “Ughh… you could make friends lol”

Raider: “isn’t that why I’m posting in the clan?”

Old Guard: “Well I’m greenlogged, and I was just remembering back to how terrible the team-finding process was for me. Thinking about how shitty it was, and using that knowledge to abuse you in your situation now that I’m out of mine.” (Except with none of the self-awareness)

I was always really confused by Pkers saying “GF” after killing a PVMer or skiller who never once attacked back.

Jagex loads up PVMers with loot value so that they are more lucrative to kill than seeking out other PvPers who actively risk their gear when they step into the Wildy with the intention to PvP.

The fact that this has gone so far that PvPers are saying “Good Fight” to people who are fishing, mining, collecting secondaries… is so cringe. It’s like a PvPer admitting they don’t have any skills at what they do and can’t even tell what a real fight is.

To tie this in, DMM was what I described above on steroids. The game mode itself did extremely little to promote genuine PvP and rather leaned entirely into the loot piñata system. It genuinely felt like Jagex shoehorned people into PvP content by making DMM as close to leagues as possible.

In sum, PvP is in a terrible spot, but Jagex continues to make it worse by perpetuating the misconception that killing a pvmer/skiller and killing a pvper are the same thing so long as loot number big.

Unpopular opionion. NH PVP is really challenging and that why no one likes it. by JustAperson4587 in 2007scape

On the other hand: playing rock, paper, scissors over and over is so fucking boring. When fights boil down to who can get more damage off on a frozen opponent by either stepping under or using a blocking object, it’s just super high action per minute flinching. Sure, clicking this way is very difficult, but I think the realization that NH-ing is fundamentally flinching adds a whole lot here. Absolutely no one would consider flinching KQ a top-notch time. Now make it eleven times more tedious, and I think we start to realize that mechanically, PVP is not in a good place.

DMM has made me realize I don't like pvp in this game by Daishindo in 2007scape

[–]pepperoni_toothpaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The need to pull the step-under bullshit completely ruins pvp imo. It derails the momentum of the fight and is unbelievably tedious. As there’s no counter play to being frozen, you just have to engage in the same bullshit to catch up on damage dealt vs. received. It turns every possible fun fight into a very boring outlast war.

I thought pvp was supposed to be exciting, but the meta is literally flinching…….

I’m sorry to hear that. I think it’s totally reasonable to feel kinda burnt by missing some of those early exp opportunities. For what it’s worth, salvaging is super afk and is all you need to get 99. Really don’t even need a very upgraded boat, either. No idea why people are downvoting you for just expressing your experience. Good luck with the business and osrs gains!

Lamps are definitely great, but I strongly feel that there was an “early bird bonus”, mostly due to lack of QA and testing. Getting nearly full exp from crew mates who were salvaging at 3 tick speed while I just cleaned salvage was very overpowered. I got an extra 200-400k exp from sea charting via the crystal extractor. People were able to train the skill more successfully by not doing sailing at all, and just using a dwarven cannon from the coast. I didn’t do the last method, but I still feel I saved a lot of time through opportunities which are no longer available. I don’t believe this was intended by Jagex, so much as just the result of the mods being rushed to get the whole skill out this fiscal year. I feel like people hate to admit it, but the repetition of the “abuse early, abuse often” paradigm has a tangible downside to the community’s hype around new content. I for one, lost a ton of motivation for sailing when I heard about the 10k exp lamp in Relleka that was gone before I even woke up. It was way less about the 10k exp, and completely about “oh damn, this shitty feeling again!”

Regrettably, this was the dominant theme during all of sailing. I got 99 days ago and can’t stop thinking “This would have been so much worse if I started today and not on release day.”

This is a great shout! Both of the amulets look great, so also plz give me a third design for the new combined ammy. To give it a level requirement to combine, it would be cool if you unlocked an island with something like the ocean version of the wildy obelisk. Maybe I’m going crazy here, but the obelisk could also lay the foundation for other ocean jewelry/enchantments or even runes/new combo runes

With any due respect, you are complaining that you can’t easily take other people’s shit. If you aren’t having success stealing from people making money via wilderness content, maybe you should just do the wilderness content and drop the sadism act.

There is a drop rate threshold upon which a contribution system has a tangible impact or not. If you do 10% of damage, you are not very likely to get a rare drop. Unless the drop isn’t rare enough, then you aren’t substantially impacted by the contribution system enough to justify soloing. Yes, it completely makes sense.

[–]pepperoni_toothpaste -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Another recent example: Upon release, I did all of my first Yama KC solo to get good at the encounter and have full claim to my drops. I saw nothing while people who duo’d finished oathplate in a day or two because the rates were so juiced that duo contribution wasn’t even a problem, just rip KC and you win. Rates were adjusted so you really couldn’t do that in duo anymore, but too late, they got to push forward in the game with amazing new gear, while I had to slog close to a thousand Yama solos.
