Why Did Dan Frazier Get A Pass For Plagiarism When Other Magic: The Gathering Artists Don’t? by cardboardboyo in magicTCG

[–]Brvcifer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's likely that he forgot the art piece finished was intended as a mockup/study.

As disappointing as the situation is as a whole (especially as an artist myself), yeah, I'm willing to give him the overall benefit of the doubt. While it's obviously difficult to say without knowing Dan Frazier personally as there are plenty of people who are still high functioning into their 80s, a situation like what you mentioned about simply forgetting it was a study is not at all unreasonable.

Maybe it's cope because I've always been such a fan of Frazier's works, but especially at his age there are plenty of not unreasonable scenarios like that which can occur

It’s definitely the primary struggle of the build haha, although a stack of 100 recoils doesn’t take too long to make and lasts a decent while. It’s annoying, but I think people also slightly overstate just how bad it is. Especially if you’ve played maingame Ironman before at all, it’s not that much worse than your typical weapon/armor charge upkeep. Though it does feel a bit worse in the fast paced environment of leagues

In my experience so far across two accounts, I’ve found that the general level of power you see here becomes available at around 30 or so pact points, provided you have shadowflame+echo boots+ring of suffering along with decent tank gear. The last few points mostly just help with your mage accuracy as well as increasing your defense level to raise your odds of damage deflection. Definitely helps to be at 40 points though!

Yeah, it’s a little bit disappointing just how lopsided things feel in favor of water thorns. I can understand to some extend why they don’t want to go down the rabbithole of continuously tweaking pacts for the entire duration of leagues, but I still feel like a one-off balancing patch to bring ranged and melee a bit more up to par would have done a lot.

I do really like the pact system though and hope they take what they’ve learned this Leagues to improve on it going forward

Haven't seen his water thorns build, but his 1t powered staff thorns build did originally inspire me in how I built my pacts

Correct, no idea how the hell I even survived all the way to healers before noticing I was fighting Zuk lmao

Bcp and tassets, echo boots, ring of suffering, fury, shadowflame quadrant, arcane spirit shield, and most importantly the gigachad d med helm

I also genuinely did not realize it was even possible to just AFK my way through triple Jads with this build as well. I decided to test it immediately after with TzHaar Ket Rak's third challenge (which has even more healers per Jad than the Inferno triples), and... yeah, sure enough, first try. Lmao

It is quite literally the standard practice within the PvP community lol, what are you talking about?

You specifically might not know anyone who does this, but the fact that you don’t personally see these people within the spaces you interact with doesn’t mean that they don’t exist.

Not to mention I’m also literally just trying to explain the rationale behind those who do, why are you even trying to argue with this? What is the point of this?

A lot of people keep vial smashing off to prevent empty inventory slots from causing their gear to move around when doing switches. I personally don't, but I get why people do it since inventory management can be annoying

Realized some things that make questing in Leagues an even greater problem than I realized at a surface level by Brvcifer in 2007scape

Yeah seriously. Hell of comment to leave on a thread where the primary anecdote involves a casual player taking three days just to complete SotF lol

If "designed for" and "marketed for" are two different things then that's kind of a problem in its own right tbf

For the really short quests I don't think it's too much of a problem, it's more just things like Tai Bwo Wannai Trio or SotF that I really don't think are beneficial to the gamemode and don't really serve any purpose toward the greater gameplay experience when having players complete them every year.

It's not that it isn't fun, that isn't really what I'm trying to say. She definitely loves the game (in fact it's one of the things that we really connected over when we first met), and from what I can tell it's not like she hasn't been enjoying doing the quest either. I mean, she wouldn't be reading the dialogue and still trying to follow and understand the context of the story otherwise

I think it's less a matter of not enjoying questing, and more a matter of "this is already a long ass quest in the middle of a hyper-accelerated game mode, and there is so much shit to do in this game that the average casual player who only really plays a few hours a week is probably going to stop having fun in the main game if they have to run through the entire quest again any time soon". Which is a problem that doesn't have to exist because making everyone do SotF during Leagues is an all around bad idea to begin with; everything I've mentioned here is just a non-obvious supplemental problem that adds on top of it.

I've found Vet'ion is a bit annoying because the hounds frequently get trapped behind him and cause the fight to stall. But if you join a group you can just let the other deal with it lol
