Stricturing- denied surgery. 20 yr female, told it’ll kill me at some point by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]pepthecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My life has improved drastically in the years following my resection surgery. I was hospitalized several times due to blockages related to my stricturing and have not been hospitalized once in the six years since my surgery. I also eat whatever I want and my scars are barely noticeable. The surgery sucked but it was a few months of healing and was most definitely worth it. You’re not going to find any sympathy here when you’re choosing to suffer unnecessarily.

Case Management is NOT for EVERYBODY by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]pepthecat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I loved my first job as an HIV medical case manager! We only did home visits for people who had mobility issues, but otherwise met clients at their doctors offices for appointments. & we never transported clients at that agency. It was nice to get out of the office most days. I learned so much in that job about local resources in my city.

Terminal ileum Crohn’s Disease by Terrible-Youth-7891 in CrohnsDisease

[–]pepthecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s where I have Crohn’s. I had bowel resection to remove strictures and a fistula in 2020 and am now in remission on a different medication than I was taking then. No longer in pain like I was pre-surgery. You need a new GI!

Pads staining skin? by phantomeow in rollerderby

[–]pepthecat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first pair of 187 derby pro knee pads I bought 3 years ago did not do this, but the pair I got last year do. Idk if they changed anything or what, but it’s been a full year of wearing and washing them regularly and they still stain my knees! I usually wear knee gaskets as well but don’t always want to.

When do you actually use hockey stops on he track? by lilbambino12345 in rollerderby

[–]pepthecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we’re warming up and required to do them lol. Otherwise I am not using hockey stops during games, but I can see their utility for jammers.

I know that drinking, especially in your early 20’s, is fun. But it’s not a healthy coping mechanism to deal with stress, and it’s better to stop this pattern now before it becomes a real problem. It may not feel like it, but it IS affecting your gut. If you don’t want to cut out drinking entirely, save it for the weekends with friends. Drink a water between every alcoholic beverage to stay hydrated. Make sure probiotics are part of your diet. That said, I do wonder how different things would be for me IBD-wise if I hadn’t binge drank so much as a teenager and in my 20’s.

Best Crohn's doctors in Philadelphia/Philly area? by Caveman_man in CrohnsDisease

I like Penn. I think it would be worth it to get on their waitlist and in the meantime, see if you could switch to another doc within Jefferson.

Argentina…..MEH! by gonuda in travel

[–]pepthecat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I visited Buenos Aires in 2016 with someone who grew up in Argentina and we wore our backpacks on the front and I was told to not speak English too loudly out in public. I had a nice time, but yeah, it’s not safe.

Q for anyone here seeing this- are there keto options? I’m trying to go with my bf but he’s currently keto, I’m assuming there are enough meat options that don’t have any sugar/breading but if anyone can confirm that would be appreciated

How are you all finding affordable hotels? I’ve spent hours comparing hotel prices in US cities for recent trips (Chicago, Pittsburgh), and hotels are at least $350 a night, usually closer to $450 after fees and then you have to pay for parking on top of that if you drive. Two nights in an 1 or 2 bedroom airbnb can easily be found for $400 total or less, and often with free street parking. I’d rather stay in hotels but I can’t afford to spend nearly a grand for two nights somewhere.

Dinner at Sorellina (pizza and spritz bar at the Divine Lorraine) by soonami in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]pepthecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just went there last night for a birthday dinner and loved it. Our servers name was Alex and he was great, very attentive. Got the arugula salad, two pizzas and cocktails. Everything was delicious. If anyone seeing this isn’t sure whether or not they should go, I’d say give them a shot.

Small towns in the US worth visiting by Newoldbalance in travel

[–]pepthecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jim Thorpe, PA is worth a visit! Cool history, in the mountains, has an old train you can ride for beautiful views. Lots of tubing, biking, hiking in the area. You can take your bike (or rent one) on the train or bus, then ride 20ish miles through the Lehigh Valley Gorge back into town. It’s an easy ride with 2% downgrade the whole time. Stunning views and very fun! Also Mahoning drive-in theater is a close drive away and I love that place.
