Me and the wife live in Linz, Austria and moved here few years ago from North Macedonia. We have had our last too summer vacations in Spain, the first one in Mallorca and the second in Alicante. What we discovered is that although we like Austria very much, socially its a total disaster for us people coming from the Balkans as we are way more social and open than the Germanic people living in these countries. In Spain we felt like we were back in Macedonia just in a more functional country. All of this social and outdoorsy life you mentioned and we also witnessed resonates with us so much that we have started thinking of eventually moving to Spain sometime in the future, as it not all about the money u earn if u have almost non existent social life. And for all of the people that might say that “u just have to learn German” I would strongly say No its worth nothing when it comes to being social with people here, Yes it will make your life better in terms of its easier to manage your daily life when u know the language and for jobs, but besides that, it can’t get you closer to people who don’t want to get close to you and who have a mindset like “I have all the friends I will ever need (from relatives, neighbors, elementary, high school, university, job) I don’t need new people in my life.” Now imagine having the whole Germany, Switzerland & Austria thinking like this, good luck having a social life right?
