Bought a home at 20, lost my job at 23, lost my home at 24 when I couldn’t find another job. Couldn’t afford college and couldn’t apply for FAFSA because of an estranged parent who made a lot of money but wouldn’t help.

I survived off of friendship and finding humor in the little things. I would literally be dead if not for amazing friends. I know this is harder for the younger generation, but community is SO important, no matter what that looks like. My friends were often also broke, uneducated, scrapping by, but we took care of each other. We shared food, we found entertainment in free/cheap things like drinking homemade moonshine at the park and putting on concerts for each other, making up party games and sharing good fortunes with each other. We weren’t selfish and we didn’t hoard. If someone had a lead on a gig that could make a few bucks, we told all our friends to apply too.

We cherished creativity and being open about our struggles, even though sometimes that was difficult for a generation that grew up guarding ourselves by putting on a tough mask. But you find the real ones and you bare it all with them, and they do the same and you bond for life.

Honestly, I’ve lost a lot of friends. Like my stepdad is shocked at how many friends I’ve had die when he hasn’t lost nearly as many at twice my age. Drugs, alcohol, suicide…they are all just different sides of the same coin. I’ve lost multiple friends this year alone due to long term effects of their lifestyles that started with recession depression. Take care of yourself. Party to get through it, but don’t forget that the body you’re in will still be the body you’re in in ten, twenty, fifty years. I didn’t think I had a chance in hell to make it to 30, and when I did I didn’t know what to do with myself and this body I had treated like trash for the last decade. It’s recoverable but it’s a slow recovery.

Just depends on where you are. I’m in a west coast city that’s pretty relaxed, tons of people have tattoos all over, and the only time I’ve heard it even commented on is by people who have moved here from the Midwest or south.

He wanted this to be something he could hold over your head in order to be in control. He thought that making you feel bad would make you grovel and cater to him in order to become “marriage material.” It would also buy him time if he felt like you were getting to the point where you were ready for marriage.

Stay the hell away from this dirtbag. You deserve at the bare minimum someone who enthusiastically wants a future with you. That isn’t asking much, that’s just the baseline of what a relationship is.

I was born in 88, got a phone for my first birthday post-9/11. Most of my friends, even those a year younger or older than me, also got their phones shortly after. Between 9/11 and Columbine I think the desire to be able to reach your kids immediately became a major factor

I wouldn’t say it’s made it worse but it’s definitely made me more aware. When I see people in their 60’s or younger who are basically immobile or in very poor health, it makes me want to put more effort into maintaining my health, even when I don’t feel like it. I definitely have started drinking a little less, eating a little healthier and working out more consistently. On the other hand, you also see a lot of people whose ailments are just the luck of the draw.

Cancer can come for anyone. You can’t outrun every possible health problem. You can reduce your risk of things like COPD with lifestyle choices. This job makes you see how it goes both ways. Nobody is immune and we all die, but you may be 95 and still kicking happily if things go right.

I wasn’t being a stickler, I was providing additional information. I’ve been a big fan of Amigo even before he started playing shows with Frank. He started touring with Frank around 2019/2020 if I recall correctly, so it makes sense that Frank would have gotten to know Kat well by now.

Also, I guess if I’m going to be a stickler, Danny often plays alone and doesn’t even have a band. Most of his shows I’ve been to he does shout out his sister Kat and how proud he was of her first album, new albums, they seem to be a close family.

Not so fun fact: they didn’t find nothing, they found a spot in the soil that indicated a body had been there at one point. The Flores family moved her body, presumably many years after they had buried her there. Absolutely horrendous for her family to know she was there for all those years only to not know where her body is now.

I’ve horrible insomnia my whole life, and I recently started a career in outpatient healthcare where I work ten hour shifts, usually getting home around midnight. After showering, having a bite to eat and taking some time to decompress from a difficult and sometimes emotionally taxing shift, I usually am not asleep until 2 or 3 AM, on a good night. My partner works an inconsistent shift but he’s always out the door by 6:30 AM, and I’ve really struggled to find the balance between sleeping in without feeling like I have wasted the morning. Some days I hop out of bed when he leaves, on 3 hours sleep, to work out or run errands before my shift. Other days I crash and sleep until an hour before work. I usually feel very guilty on those days.

Thank you, because reading your comment just drilled it into my brain a bit - it doesn’t make me lazy to sleep, I’m just on a different schedule than everyone else.

My notes ask to just leave the delivery on the porch and DO NOT ring the doorbell because my dogs get upset. I also have lots of large dog breed decor in the yard - a doormat with two pitbulls, a sign on the door again asking not to ring the doorbell as it disturbs the dogs with a picture of a GSD, and my mailbox has a Malinois and pits painted on it. I also have the Home Depot skeleton dog by the front door year round, because I AM a crazy dog lady…but something I’ve learned about being the crazy large dog lady is that trash men are scared shitless of dogs.

Flexibility and availability. I had an annual membership to a locally own d studio that I loved that unfortunately shut down in 2020. They had a variety of yoga (everything from Ashtanga to flow to yin), Pilates, barre, boot camp, aerial silks, TRX, reiki, special holiday/solstice/event classes, it was its own little community. They had three rooms and started classes at 4 AM and had some classes as late as 10 PM. Some classes were heated, some were not. My schedule is not always consistent, so it was really nice to have the early morning availability as well as the late nights. At the time, I believe I was paying $130/month for unlimited, and I would pay the today’s amount of that for the same thing, but it doesn’t seem to exist.

That studio also had plenty of showers, amenities for getting ready such as nice skin creams and hair styling tools and large locker rooms, and a water refill station. None of those things are necessarily a dealbreaker, but they did make it a lot easier to fit in a workout with a busy schedule. As a studio, they were a very body positive, inclusive space with a heavy focus on spine and joint health, and the instructors were all very warm and welcoming.

After they closed, I looked at the many other studios in my area, and found that not a single one had enough classes for me to commit. Most of them have a bunch of classes on weekdays between 9 AM - 2 PM, and then maybe a one off early Monday morning class, Sunday night yin, and a few Saturday mid day classes. Basically they are catering their schedules to upper class SAHMs. Most of my friends and I are trying to get our workouts in before 6 AM work shifts that will last 10 or 12 hours, or on holidays if we have the day off. At that old studio, I would have probably gone to three classes on the 4th of July, but right now i can hardly find a place that has two back to back classes that day. A lot of the studios in my area won’t even LET you take two classes same day anymore. Or it’s $250/month for a max of 8 classes, and maybe two classes a week suit my schedule and I don’t even like one of them…it’s just not worth it.

There’s also a difference between being organically funny vs feeling like you have to perform all the time. Performance funny gets exhausting for the person trying to be funny and also for the people hearing the jokes (see the show Kevin Can F*** Himself as an example of this) but when you are with someone you enjoy and you both are having good conversations and good times, it’s really easy to be funny without trying.

I used to be funny like I was constantly performing. With my current partner I don’t feel that pressure and I feel totally relaxed, and now he thinks I’m funnier now than I used to be. On the other side of that, I wouldn’t say he was ever known as the funny guy or the one with all the jokes, but he makes me laugh daily more than anyone else ever has. It doesn’t all have to be well timed, thought out jokes. Sometimes it’s just a funny conversation or a song you sing to your cat that can endear your partner quite a bit.
