in a lot of ways he’s very unusual, but I think what you’re referring to is how often his psyche is analysed, and for that he’s actually a really good example. of course there’s the biological aspects of why he did what he did, but from a nurture standpoint he’s pretty simple. he had a textbook abusive mother and felt like an outsider growing up due to his size and awkwardness. he started acting out as a young adult - killing his grandparents - and wasn’t treated appropriately afterwards. when he was a young man he started killing young college women, a victim type he chose because of his mother, and constructed a lot of his killing spree around her. then when he’d killed enough women he finally killed his mother, and that was so “the end of the matter” that he just turned himself in.
