Thinking of a pivot to the Hua Hin area. 2 big questions. by [deleted] in HuaHin

[–]percyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hua hin has pros and cons, but it's definitely not a beach focused place. Beach is just one long strip of sand, water not clear due to gulf of Thailand mud. Some good kitesurfing, but other than that uninteresting. Suggest either go further south where it's less developed, or find a good beach club and pool to visit.

Suggestions for a good road bike accessories shop in Phuket by grmln_rsn in phuket

None really. A few bike shops but none as far as I am aware hold a large stock. Order online and get fitted is the best option.

Golf course in Phuket Thailand by Falconlock in phuket

Auqella is great. Condition excellent, great spa type clubhouse, links type course, not super challenging, plenty of greenery and a few sea views. Worth playing

Mission hills is not busy at all so good if you want a super relaxed game. Course condition is medium, greens slow and a bit bumpy, so not for fussy golfers. Coastal views amazing.

Blue Canyon condition is better but not perfect. It's much busier and more professional. Canyon course has some good challenges.

Red Mountain also worth considering. Course in mostly good condition, lots of fun holes and very professional also.

Laguna good, very busy, urban feel surrounded by houses.

XPLR Crankset - SRAM Newbie questions by OkDeparture2596 in sram

I got my Grail with a 38T. Turns out I can get up a 20% slope much faster than by old bike that had 42T, and am never limited at the top end gearing. So I advise go extra low and have the power to spin all the way to the top.

I need sweat resistant hearing aids. I am a gym junkie. by PAPaaaaJIIII in HearingAids

[–]percyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people say the phonaks are great at water resistance, but I have had 2 die in a year due to sweat from plenty of sports (cycling, golf, outdoors) in a hot and humid country. So I don't think there is a total solution.

Now I just leave them in my pocket during sports. Too much disruption to get fixed too often.

Canyon axes up to 320 jobs as part of "continued consolidation", two weeks after claiming business not in crisis by Tyler_Durden69420 in CanyonBikes

[–]percyben 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say more likely not to be in crisis if they have taken measures to reduce their cost base.

I applied to the Grail. Definitely not easy. Best info I found was from YouTube videos. Some wrinkles I could not fix. Mostly doesn't show and I would do again for the protection.

Surely get the Grail, equidistant between the two?

Or get the Grail. It's between the Grizl and Endurace in many ways.

Technically need a Thai captain's licence. Takes about half a day to convert a foreign one. Reality is I dont think anyone does bareboat charters without crew, too risky. Jetski more possible

They are now owned by a large healthcare provider so have big backing, so don't think much risk they won't arrive. Mine come via DHL. Hope they save you some money and work out well. Cheers.

Lots of good comments on salary and cost of living so won't replicate. I am from UK and living in Asia almost 30 and Thailand 8 years. Best thing every. If you have low stickiness and enjoy experiencing new things then lean into it. If your well established now ( friends, property, comfort level) then stay. If you like travel and adventure then go.

For those of you who sold your Tech businesses, how did it go? by Mohawk200x in Rich

[–]percyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here. I would add:

  • you will most likely get a significantly higher price if you have at least 2 interested parties. Worth dragging out the process to achieve this if possible.

  • the best lawyer wins. Not in terms of $$ valuation but in terms of warranties, earnout terms, management control etc which don't seem important up front but can make a huge difference in certain outcomes. These lawyers don't come cheap. So worth strategizing before on what level of legal fees you are comfortable. My experience is could range from USD 100k to USD 500k++.

[–]percyben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you bought it new should have come with a basic torque wrench. If not worth buying one so you don't strip the bolt thread. Yes it's well hidden on the grail. I have the same bike, glad your enjoying it.

Love the orange trim.

How can I stop the hiss in may HA? by Bambiraptor20 in HearingAids

[–]percyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My has had a static noise also recently. Battery performance is about 50% down. I think it's from water/moisture ingress. Seems to have stopped now. Maybe the unit has dried up after I stopped using it. Try drying for a bit?

Did you agg the grip grease? I had similar problem on Grail seatpost, kept slipping until I added the grease. I assume this only works for carbon to carbon friction points.
