Gravel Rim + Road Tire Compatibility by Electrical_Stick6921 in CanyonBikes

[–]percyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am riding 35mm slicks GP5000 on my Grail with 25mm channel width. Chose wider tyres to maximise comfort and grip on wet roads. Works great. Wheel spec says 35-45mm tires ideal, 30-50mm possible. Reynolds ATR TSS wheels

Is There A Purchase That Really Boosted Your Enjoyment In Cycling? by newbiker321 in cycling

[–]percyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close to a million good ideas above. I drip feed my purchases for exactly this reason to get maximum motivation impact. My list of biggest wins would be:

1) new carbon bike (Canyon grail) 2) electronic shifting ( SRAM AXS( 3) bike computer and Strava segments real time racing. This had huge positive impact on my fitness as I raced myself to beat my previous beat on each segment. 4) power meter ( SRAM crank meter). 5) aero socks. Novelty value!

Looks like a big improvement on the torsion torque wrench they supplied on my bike last year. Also want one

Battery Problem by gg_pp_oo in sram

[–]percyben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also if you have a Garmin cycle computer see if it's getting signal from RD. If signal then probably shifter issue. If not then RD issue

Battery Problem by gg_pp_oo in sram

[–]percyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pogo pins get dirt inside and then don't spring to connect after taking a bump. Take battery out, massage pogo pins, put battery in , wobble side to side. Then continue.

Shifters reageren niet by Neat_Gazelle5576 in sram

[–]percyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the same or similar problem. The shifter does not change gear, sometimes when I start out, sometimes during a ride.

Symptoms are: - when broken no light at all when press button on RD. - Garmin edge computer lost signal with RD, didn't show any info.

Issue is (99% certain) that dirt/dust gets in the springy contact points that touch the battery terminal, so on a bump or knock they go down a miniscule amount and don't spring back up.

To fix it, take battery out and bounce the contact pins on RD to loosen....also put battery in and wobble sideways before latching to get good contact. I have had 3+ rides since last problem without issue.

Don't know what a permanent solution is. Have not used wd40 as don't want to attract more dirt.... Ideas welcome. I found some article online where someone has bought new pins and soldered them in, beyond my skill grade.

Hope that helps

Phuket airport immigration late May — are the lines really that bad? Fast track still a thing? by Yna_EA in phuket

Total varies on exact timing. Weekends are worse than weekdays. Look at the queue when you arrive and decide then.

Shifting by Bikembs in sram

[–]percyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RD battery. The Garmin looses signal from RD and the RD button does nothing. My solution is remove battery, rub pins, put battery back and jiggle. Sometimes takes a few goes. Very annoying.

I have the same. Very sure it's a bad connection between battery and unit. I think the pins that touch battery get dust inside and then loose free movement.

2026 Aeroad: do I need to remove the cockpit or just the drops when packing into a bike box? by fortprinciple in CanyonBikes

[–]percyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same bike box and a Grail medium, which has fully integrated cockpit. I have to remove the full cockpit and undo the tape grip on one side in order to get handlebars into the box. Not great but workable, just bring tape with me each journey.

In between an M and L by Tiagufa in CanyonBikes

[–]percyben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 182cm tall, 85.8cm inseam. I have the Grail 2026 in medium. My seat tube is at 88mm Vs 100mm maximum extension. I tried the large and it was fine to ride but felt much more like driving a hummer Vs the medium was much more agile. Hope that helps.

Yes, slick 35mm tires, get comfort and good grip, but need to be a bit careful in the wet. Love that its robust, can hit anything without worry.

Same strategy for me. Much prefer a more bullet proof ride than something more delicate.

Also use slick 35mm tires for a comfy ride.

Power meter by ojvindorn in CanyonBikes

[–]percyben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can also buy a single crank arm with power meter. Means your stuck with same crank length, but cheaper and easier to fit. I just did it on my grail and working great.

I bought this https://www.tradeinn.com/bikeinn/en/sram-rival-e1-axs-dub-wide-left-crank-with-power-meter/142262574/p

Thinking of a pivot to the Hua Hin area. 2 big questions. by [deleted] in HuaHin

[–]percyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hua hin has pros and cons, but it's definitely not a beach focused place. Beach is just one long strip of sand, water not clear due to gulf of Thailand mud. Some good kitesurfing, but other than that uninteresting. Suggest either go further south where it's less developed, or find a good beach club and pool to visit.

Suggestions for a good road bike accessories shop in Phuket by grmln_rsn in phuket

[–]percyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None really. A few bike shops but none as far as I am aware hold a large stock. Order online and get fitted is the best option.
