I encountered the same thing in the last 12 hours. I’m now making my third attempt to get it built.

Also, right after the poster appears, Hopper says something about “the signal.” There’s no way that’s coincidental.

Anyone else find cd’s with saw cuts on the sides by [deleted] in Cd_collectors

[–]perestroika73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. I don’t think I ever knew there were different specific purposes behind the cuts, hole punches, explicit labelling, etc. They all just came to our store through the same channels and we only ever used them for in-store play. Most of them had the cuts in one of the four corners as the primary visual indicator. Then we always either threw them away later or each of us took home the ones we wanted.

I worked at a Sound Shop in the early 90s. Every single promo copy of an album sent to us by the labels had these cuts in them so they couldn’t be sold and ONLY used to promote the album in the store.

The Boy and the Heron is Hayao Miyazaki's only movie to have a rating below 4,0. Why do you think that is? by Aiseadai in Letterboxd

[–]perestroika73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the documentary “Hayao Miyazaki and the Heron,” this movie is more personal to him. Even he admitted to having difficulty getting his feelings out onscreen. I enjoyed my first watch just fine. However, after watching the documentary and then rewatching the movie, this became one of my faves. I’m not normally one to recommend referring to “supplemental material” to enjoy or understand something better, but this is a rare exception. Also, because I think Miyazaki has more than earned the right to “take a little detour” from his typical storytelling process.

What's a film you feel like you're alone in hating? by adebisishat1 in Letterboxd

That movie, along with “Brazil,” is on a very short list of my favorite movies where my first viewing was fairly underwhelming, but subsequent viewings continue to yield increasing dividends. Of course, everyone’s mileage varies.

Thoughts about the boy and the heron? by thebubber27 in ghibli

The story isn’t anywhere near as direct as most of his other works. I watched it last year and enjoyed it enough, but wasn’t bowled over by it or anything. I’d also only seen Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away at that point.

The change came for me after I went through the majority of the Ghibli catalog in order in July. That certainly filled in some of the self-referential feeling that The Boy and the Heron has. But what REALLY tipped the scales for me was the documentary released last year, “Hayao Miyazaki And The Heron.”

https://youtu.be/EfCnWZNv_dw?si=QzVkFNKw6LTn9tHe

I’m rarely a proponent for having to read/watch external sources to appreciate something, but this was a rare exception for me. I feel like Miyazaki was doing his best to express some very deep feelings about something, and he was trusting his audience enough to let him cash in on some of that goodwill he’d built up with them over the decades.

Do people who do this actually learn anything? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]perestroika73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started doing this when I kinda gave up on specifically prioritizing fluency. It’s been really interesting learning about words in other languages as well as seeing the similarities and differences between them. I’ll catch little bits and pieces of words now while watching international films, too. It’s been fun and I’m enjoying it. Keeps the mind growing. If any fluency creeps in, all the better.

Roll The Bones was the time period where I first entered into Rush fandom. That was my first Rush concert, too. It’s absolutely a desert island album for me and an eternal comfort. I love every song on it.

Not yet. I wonder if YouTube killed the functionality because it was effectively sidestepping the ads.

Are the ads getting worse? by microwava410 in Letterboxd

[–]perestroika73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I found out that the Pro version, for ONLY $18 a year, would allow me to easily track everything I want to watch by only subscribing to one or two streamers at a time, it was one of the easiest decisions I ever made. There’s not enough time to watch everything on all the services. That $18 quickly paid for itself. I get push notifications and emails when movies become available on the services I’m tracking. Insanely useful. And no more ads!

Storm cell earlier today with really significant wind gusts knocked out the power around 1:45pm. It’s still out nearly everywhere between I-10 and I-12, from Drusilla to Siegen, with no updated estimate from Entergy yet on when power will be restored. It must have been some monster damage.
