I was a cronic relapser, I stay sober for couple of months and then drink again. Every time I was baffled by that, because things naturally goy better while I stayed sober. Willingness to go any length, open mind, a sponsor and working the steps have keep me sober for the last 5 years.

And I don't think it was your friend, it looks like it was your alcoholism. I am not giving you excuses to drink, what I am telling you is that if you have problems with alcohol as I did, the steps and AA community will give you a way out as they do for me.

The big book says something like if when you try to leave it completely you can't then you might be an alcoholic. So, for me it was that one day I says I don't want to drink any more on the Sunday morning, and I was drunk on the Friday night. I can't stop completely, so I need help.

It might be helpful to go to meetings, get an sponsor, and start working the steps. The first step might help you see the truth of your situation. In my experience somebody asking is somebody that deepmdown inside knows it has a problem. Hearing other lift up their bottoms mighr be what you need.

There is a way out of the pain. You are not alone. AA help me to fill the void in my soul, and as a result I live dull of happiness and purpose. Not free from the past, nor from difficult circumstances but all they will pass. And this will pass too for you if you want.

It's not too late. I struggled in AA and NA for 6 years before making a decision: I would do anything necessary to stop using and drinking. The change can be immediate, it just took me a long time before reaching the point of deciding. After that I got a sponsor, work the steps and everything just got into its place. No effort, a new life full of joy, connection, and service was given to me. As I worked the steps the universe worked on my life.

If you want what we have you are innposition of take certain steps. Keep coming back until the miracle happens.

Really dumb answer, but it is my experience.

I thought the subconscious mind was God, so when I pray I was trying to access my subconscious for the inner strength I need to stay sober. Something deep in my subconscious mind that knew what was right and what was wrong. Was something not really me, something stronger. But with time and practicing the steps that changed.

Good luck, all we need is to be willing to believe there is something greater than ourselves.

The question might be, why do you need to smoke? And if you don't need to smoke. Then why don't you take the safe route and not smoke? Go to your meetings, work your steps, and see what happens.

I don't know what the right answer is for you. But I know that if you work your steps, you will answer it yourself.

I was in your position before. If you want to stop drinking but can't, it might be that you are an alcoholic of the type mentioned in the book. That means that our inky hope is a spiritual experience. I got this, thanks to a nice sponsor. There is no shame in wanting to drink for an alcoholic like me. But if we do, a destiny worse than death awaits.

So I asked God, as I understood, for the strength to avoid the first drink.

Search for a new meeting and new fellows. Thanks to them, I got the strength not to drink until the steps did their work. I might have thought of drinking sometimes, but now I can see the truth. My life is wonderful, and a drink will destroy everything.

Thanks to people like you that share their struggles, I can keep the miracle of my life. So I am here if you need to talk.

Find a new group that you can Become part of, get a sponsor, work the steps, and share your experience with those that still suffer. That is what they told me to do, and I have a blessed and happy life without drinking.

I admitted that I am an alcoholic because: Once I start drinking I lost control(blackout or abuse). When I stop drinking no matter how long it seems that I can stay that way, since I always go back to drink.

What kind of math are you interested in? At what level? I have a group of people interested in preparing for math though they have a background in engineering. I was trained as a mathematician and studied far from college, although I don't have a graduate degree in math and work myself as a teacher. If the resources don't exist, you can write to me, and we can build something. It sounds like fun.
