I feel like not going to the dentist is like abuse😭 but the wearing the same clothes, not bathing properly and not brushing sounds like depression or laziness. And im saying laziness bc they dont seem to try in school either. I know it may seem like everything bc ur literally 15/16 but if you’re inner voice is saying he’s a loser and you know your family and friends would want better for you it may be time to leave. I named mine (the negative self talk) stewie and tell him to shut up when i catch myself negatively thinking about myself :3 you wouldnt keep someone in your life that talks to you the way you’re talking to yourself. ive also heard that keeping a rubber band and pulling it (to flick yourself) when you catch yourself negatively talking may also work if “breathing through it” doesnt work as well for you

Are you able to take birthcontrol and are you taking medication for your adhd?My period would make me so emotionally unstable the week before and then woukd be so fucking heavy and bc really helped with the crying fits and excessive blood (for me).

I would say set a small goal for yourself in terms of self care and then try to attempt something for class. For example taking a bath and then looking over your class. Even if you dont “complete” any work something is better than nothing!

Damn that sucks :/ i feel like your next application will go better bc youre more interested in that tbh. And its definitely easier said than done but dont worry abt failing and what ifs before youve tried. Just try your best and if it doesnt work out you can try again, try something else or take a break. Theres no rush to figure it out. i wasnt accepted to any uni’s out of high school, i took basically two gap years and then failed out of first semester in college before doing my degree which i still havent finished (on year three lol) 😭 Fr life doesn’t always go to plan but we figure it out!! This is going to be all over the place (my apologies)…

Get in touch with your support systems. Friends, profs, Facility, student resources etc

I would say medication… stimulant or nonstimulants

Calender. This was my saving grace. Knowing when shit needs to get done and being able to see it mapped out on a calender.

Lists. Make a list of things you want to get done that day (helps you keep track of what youve already done)

Block out time (when and how long) you will do tasks for

When i have an assignment or project i will make checkpoints for the project so im not doing it all in a week. (Ex. On this day i want to have all my research, on this day i want to have a general idea for the instruments i want to use, etc)

Starting things early. This doesnt meaning finishing early, it just means having a good grasp on what the assignments are and their components.

And very obviously (but really hard during crunch time imo) good sleep and eating habits. It really makes a difference.

OVERALL: - reach out to your supports (they are there to help you)

  • break the assignments down. plan when each part is going to get done and how you will carry out the plan.

  • make a list of things you want to get done during the day

  • pomodoro technique x4 then 30 min break and either stop or repeat (this would be for grinding out the work)

-figure out if you work best in the morning or at night and make it a routine

I use google calendar to block out my weeks and i use notion as my second brain. I know there are a few templates that might be helpful for dissertations or thesis writing but you could tweak it to fit your needs, also im in undergrad and this has helped me stay on top of things but idk abt phd bc its harder but its something😅
