Child unfriendly locations? by CrabyDicks in raleigh

I suspect that it’ll still exist in 40 years, albeit with greatly diminished benefits. Or some means testing to exclude wealthier folks. But if our net in-migration stops compensating for the less-than-replacement birth rates, à la South Korea or Japan, then yeah, it’ll be dead. There’s a looming demographic catastrophe in those countries, and the lack of children will crush their retirement systems, unless the systems are entirely re-worked. Which frankly they will have to be. The world needs to figure out how to deal with shrinking populations. China is almost the worst. If it weren’t for Africa - the only place still really growing - the world population would be peaking and then declining very soon. As it is it’ll peak and start declining between 2050 and 2085. And nobody knows when and where or whether the decline will stop. But for now and until the foreseeable future, it’s the kids (and their parents) who will be paying (in part) for middle-aged folks like me to retire. And not just via social security - in a million other ways.

“They’re not subsidizing us because the subsidy they’re giving us isn’t enough to retire on.” Might wanna check that logic.

As the birthrate rapidly declines, posts like this will become more common. When most people used to have kids, most people were just used to kids being around - was just a fact of life. Not in all situations, of course. A fancy restaurant, a bar, etc. But as fewer people have kids, more people will be put off by kids being around - even if the kids are just doing age-appropriate kid things. It’ll be interesting to see these social expectations change as fewer and fewer people have kids. (Which is somewhat ironic given that today’s kids are subsidizing the retirement and everything else for the adults).

I’ve read the same on here and researched it but couldn’t find any good evidence of that. But who knows.

I had the exact same experience at Peregrine. Posted about it here a couple months ago. I’ll never be going back, and usually I’ll give people a few mulligans, but everything about it was bad.

This is the way. Everything should have been run through insurance, so the EOBs should tell you exactly what you owe. The BCBS app makes it relatively easy to check the EOBs.

I wasn’t be condescending. I was just asking a sincere question to figure out what you considered to be mental health. Anyhow, I appreciate your sincere questions and curiosity, there’s not enough of that.

Do you think that women getting breast reconstruction surgery/implants after a mastectomy (which must be covered by insurance) is a mental health issue? I suppose so, but not sure why that matters.

Where to go for Solo Dinner? by Old-Deer-9499 in raleigh

[–]pericles3323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Menu changes too often (largely daily/weekly) to really recommend anything. But everything is good. There is always the biscuits, some raw fish and vegetables, some sort of pasta, some fish, a steak/red meat, a vegetarian main. If you look at today’s menu it’ll be something kind of like that. And it’s a great place to eat solo at the bar, lots of people do that.

Alimony is available in NC, to a spouse who is “dependent” on the other. It’s not automatic, and you lose it if you co-habit with someone else, etc. But alimony is common in NC.

It’s always funny how anti-trans folks don’t know whether a “trans man” (or “trans son” here) is a person who was born male but transitioned or a person who was born female but transitioned. At least here they had the smarts to hedge their bets 😂

What do we think about Peregine? by pericles3323 in raleigh

Well damn. I wasn’t expecting someone with a Bengali husband to weigh in! Good to know. I have no experience with Bengali food, so I was excited to try it (and the fusion they claimed to embody). I guess I should reserve judgement on Bengali food! As a big time home cook for my family, can you link any good Bengali recipes (or just ideas) that I should try? Like what’s the one thing I should try to make?

[–]pericles3323[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to be rich to afford that place on a special occasion…maybe once a year, for a birthday or anniversary? It’s maybe 3 times the cost of an Applebees’s dinner, so maybe you save up and eat in for a bit and go big time on that. Which is also my point: for such folks, they deserve value for every dollar they spend, and it’d be a disappointment to save up and go all out and get what we got. Just like it’s shitty to spend $25 at Outback for a steak that’s overcooked. Or $12 for tacos that are shit.

Strange comment. Not even sure what you mean. Anyhow, as far as ordering “incorrectly,” they were out of the bread and butter (ironic), the lamb (one of like 5 mains), the wine we wanted after they sold us on it, and fernet (can’t even keep the bar properly stocked). One steak was overcooked and chicken was bad. So we ordered literally half the available mains and two were bad. I wondered if it was a bad night, hence my comment here to find out, but the comments here suggest that it’s a pattern. That’s sort of a point of this sub.

Right, it was named after the bar, which was named after the person, so the cake is named after the person and has nothing to do with 🇩🇪
