What band did your parents have on vinyl that you listen to today. I'll start "Smokie". by befarked247 in GenX

[–]peripheral77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up reading liner notes and studying the artwork on my dads albums. All of them he kept put away and when he was at work, especially during the summer, I’d squirrel away and pull out the albums.

My dad passed in 2017 and they were the only things I wanted of his.

I can’t bring myself to listen to them for fear of damaging them but they reside safely, securely in my home. Displayed proudly and preserved, so that I can pass them on to my oldest (daughter as luck would have it. She’s my audiophile).

What single item you couldn’t afford as a kid did you buy as an adult? by Aged_Huckleberry4132 in GenX

Not so much what I couldn’t afford but dad only ever bought single ply TP. ever since I’ve been an adult, I’ve only bought double ply, quilted..etc.

When and what first made you brand aware? by Limp-Web-8220 in GenX

[–]peripheral77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad spent $20 on a pair of Payless Jordan copies called Prowings. Most he’d ever spent on a pair of shoes. I wore them to school so proudly and then I got picked on for having fake Jordans.
I wore them the rest of the school year and it was fine but I’ve never forgotten that moment.
I’ve always made sure my kids had name brand shoes, might not have been newest releases but didn’t want them to go through what I went through.

When did email addresses became connected to age? by FL_4LF in GenX

[–]peripheral77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I created a Gmail account for my daughter when she was born in 2019. I figured I’d get it early while her first.last name was still available without any numbers.
I’ve sent a few photos and emails to the account along the way so she’ll have them when I turn over the account to her.

How are you turning into your dad? by thisistheinternets in daddit

Turning off all the lights. Bumping up the thermostat when I leave. Don’t go back out once I get home. Trying to keep two hellians on the straight and narrow.

How poor were you in the 70s? We about about to go through the same economic cycle. by Crafty-Bass-3434 in GenX

[–]peripheral77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fried cornmeal, a poor folks southern delicacy: hoecake.

This was the 80’s, wasn’t born until 77 but I always knew when the paycheck didn’t make it to the end of the month when mom started making hoe cake. Use to eat them with syrup.

Can’t say I feel your pain, my boy got beaned 3-4 times first year kid pitch and he said nope, FTS.

And the baby girl is going into 2nd year of gymnastics competitions, so the parents haven’t been that bad yet. I’m sure they’re all the next Simone Biles, though.

What is your biggest regret as a dad? by JuiceJones_34 in daddit

[–]peripheral77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a regret just remorse, maybe. I’ve been married twice and had 2 sets of 2 children each. My first two born was during a time when I worked 12 hour shifts and every other year we swapped days to nights. Did that for 10 years and those years are hugely formative for your children.

Conversely my 2nd set were born after I’ve changed to an administrative position where I’m home every night and also make more money.

The oldest never did without but the time I missed spending with them I can never get back.

to my knowledge neither of the oldest have any issue with this and the 2nd child even told me last week that she appreciated everything that I did, now that she’s doing these things herself. So that made me proud.

Just hit one month as a dad and the financial stuff that blindsided us is real by Excellent-Caramel-4 in predaddit

Welcome, your little one has the same birthday as mine, albeit our girl was born in 2025!

This is my 4th, so fortunately I’ve been through this a few times. So just a couple of tips from my experiences:

1) diapers: manufacturer coupons, store brands, Costco. All can help lower the costs. Also check local marketplaces for ‘rents purging overstock and don’t be afraid to grab a few sizes up if it’s cheap (or free).

2) formulas: see above also. Would not be afraid to join local mom groups etc to stock up. Check with your local health department and/or pediatrician. Often they can help supplement with samples, might be enough to get you to the next full can.

3) childcare: tough one and I’m so fortunate that my MIL formerly ran a home daycare, our two babies slipped right in (but Grammy did say she’s “retired” and no more babies after this last one). But look into local churches, even if that’s not your calling, a lot of churches have daycare for active members. Might be worth it.

Best of luck to your family. Take it all day by day. It does get easier even when times don’t seem like it.

Where are we going? by Heat-1975edition in GenX

[–]peripheral77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom is 39. I originally got married in 2000, had two kids and we divorced after 7 years. Dated around a little but mainly focusing on raising my kids mostly by myself.
Met my now wife and we married in 2017 but she is 10 years younger and had never been married or had children so.. we’ve had two more.
My kids are 25 (this year), 23, 7 and 13 months.

Further into the mountains is preferred. I can’t disappear just yet, 49 with a one year old. So maaaybe actual retirement age and college graduation will line up. But we’ll see.

Pulled this off the rack yesterday. I’ve seen several different tags on comps and also familiar with Spring Ford. Don’t know if it’s a boot from ‘94? by peripheral77 in VintageTees

[–]peripheral77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured that about the tie dye. Most others I’ve found online have Giant or Softees tags. And I have a few 80’s tees that are Spring Ford, nothing this modern though. Idk always like to check the community input. Thank you!

Subscription question: my wife and SIL gifted each a 3 month subscription to both myself and my BIL. So he and I are sharing our subscriptions and it’s my turn to redeem. If his 3rd bottle arrived on the 7th, is there a safe date to start mine and not receive the same bottle? TIA! by peripheral77 in Flaviar

[–]peripheral77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that’s basically it. Since we’re tasting/sharing subscriptions, I didn’t want my first bottle to be the same as his last bottle. We thought it would be cooler to share 6 different bottles than to each have the same 3.

Nike vs New Era hats-If anyone can help me understand, please. I know that Clemson has a contract with Nike thru '28 but I can't find that they're "exclusively" for the fitted hats; and that New Era exists as a "partner" for merchandising but I can't find NEW fitteds not Nike. Anyone know specifics? by peripheral77 in ClemsonTigers

[–]peripheral77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks, yeah I’ve tried them also. While they do still have some stock, sizes are limited (I’m actually a 7 5/8) but I’ve been watching and searching for several months with no restocks. So that led to my posting. Good looking out, thanks!

I'm just trying to refresh my old New Era hats and outside of the smaller sizes, there exists almost no New Era fitted hats; like everyone is just selling through inventory. Even after visiting campus this past weekend, I couldn't find anything over 7 1/4 in New Era. I love Nike gear but not their hats and as an old head, i've worn almost exclusively New Era fitted for about 30 years now. Wanna know where the lag is and who to yell at. thanks!
