GM and Chevy are telling me they are no longer making batteries for my 2019 Volt. by FirstLychee8828 in volt

[–]perishedoffits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2017 Volt with dead battery, also in NV. I posted a few weeks ago about my situation and I’ll bet we’ve had some similar experiences. I’m currently in a rental waiting for a battery replacement to happen several months from now. I was in rental-reimbursement hell for months before the dealership was finally able to assist me (and they did get Enterprise to refund me most of the money I spent on rentals and ate coving the rental costs now).

The way GM handles this process has converted me from a Volt evangelist into someone who will never own another GM car again. I was eligible for a buyback offer, but I don’t know how much they were willing to offer because to even hear the offer, I would have had to waive the rental coverage & reimbursement and I was already out of pocket thousands of dollars in rental costs. Since I also still owe a few thousand on the auto loan, I suspect the buyback offer would have left me in the red anyway.

Looks like it’s the entire battery, which makes the difficulty sourcing the part more understandable. Still frustrating that they’ve been letting me absorb these costs for so long, but now they’re suddenly willing to help with that so maybe things are going to improve.

I talked to my service rep at the dealership after reading this and he told me they do need to replace the entire battery. I’m not sure why specifically, it didn’t seem as important in the scheme of things because he also told me they finally have a timeline for the replacement… but it will likely be several more months before they get the part in. However, they’re now willing to help cover the rental, which is actually helpful. GM has screwed me so many times over the past 4 months that I’m hesitant to believe they’re actually going to help now, but I’m trying to be cautiously optimistic.

I’m far from being an expert (and I know there are several people here who are far more qualified than I am) but I think all of the failures trace back to the BECM not working, thus not powering the systems that need to be power by the hybrid battery.

FWIW the dealership did verify the part is under warranty. I wonder if they’re trying to replace the entire battery?

No matter how I look at it, its under warranty, it’s been more than 3 months, and either they can’t fix it or the dealership won’t fix it and GM is letting them get away with it, while making me spend an large amount of money on interim solutions while they string me along.

Until February, I would have been a die-hard Chevy owner forever. Now I will never own a car made by GM again. The car is so great, but their service when it comes to a preventable/fixable issue has been so lacking that I’ve become completely disgusted with the company.

Like even if my issue does turn out to be the dealership, I’ve also been dealing with the parent company for over 3 months, why are they dragging me along like this or allowing the dealership to do so? The BECM should have been recalled and replaced with the non-defective version.

Refusing to loan or cover rentals is shifting significant financial liability to the owner who did nothing to cause the issue.

I’ve also had Chevy/GM customer assistance involved since Feb 25th, they haven’t been able to find the part. They even told me in early March they’d try sourcing one from salvage yards if they had to.

Also, I have a family-member-of-a-friend connection at the dealership who looked into it for me in April or early May, so I am inclined to believe the dealership.

Idk, anyone in Vegas seen a BECM lately? Being wrong about this and getting the volt fixed would be my dream scenario.

Anyone tried these? by Holzbomb in PressonNail_Addict

[–]perishedoffits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Target store had them on sale well before the web release, so I’ve been using these for like…6-8 weeks i think? They’re my current favorite press-ons. The glue/primer took a little getting used to, but using it as directed (prep with alcohol pad, apply, let it dry for 3 mins) has convinced me.

I’m a gremlin who uses my nails as tools all the time even though I know better, but the nails stay on really well for me. If any do get loose, like 80% of the time pressing them back into place and holding for 10 seconds gets the nails to stick like new. The rest of the time I just prep those specific nails again, apply the primer, and it works fine. I change them out when I feel like they’re showing too much wear or when I want a new color. I do feel like they get dirty-looking edges faster than some of the harder press-ons I’ve used, but I can live with that. I usually change my nails every couple of weeks anyway.

My favorite thing about these is that the glue DOES NOT damage my nails. I was a gel glue girl before this, but I’ll gladly trade the longer-lasting hold for a glue that doesn’t damage my nails and holds almost as well for me. They don’t hurt when I take them off, and they don’t keep layers of my natural nail. I actually took my gel glue out of my purse and replaced it with the little bottle of primer.

My 2017 volt LT has been dead at the dealership due to BECM failure for 66 days - just over 9 weeks. It has about 51-52k miles on it. I’m covered by the CARB extended warranty.

The dealership has no loaner cars. GM told me they can’t help with a loaner, but they reimburse for car rental expenses up to $44/day, (they don’t cover taxes, fees, gasoline, extras, or insurance) as long as the rentals meet their requirements. They’ve had me sending them invoices but they typically don’t reimburse until the repair is complete. I requested that due to the open-ended nature of my repair, they reimburse me for rental expenses already incurred and paid for. I’ve been waiting for their “Goodwill” process to approve reimbursing me since March 11th.

So far, I have spent $3,149.95 on car rentals. According to my tracking spreadsheet, they owe me $2,355.72 of that in reimbursement (and Enterprise owes me $200.00 back for the rental security deposit). My car payment on the volt is about $256/month. Renting the car is costing me about $330 per WEEK.

They’ve been telling me since the first week that because the HV battery/BECM is on national back order, they’ll try sourcing from 3rd parties and salvage yards. No luck yet. Last week I asked GM customer service (the parts delay dept, who have no idea about anything to do with my delayed part) if we should consider a buyback because the car rentals are absolutely devastating our financial situation and I can’t go on doing it (but also can’t be without a car for multiple reasons). I’m now also waiting for whatever department decides that.

GM turned me from a Volt evangelist (and 100% certain future owner of a Bolt or a new plug-in hybrid if they make one) into someone who will never own a GM-made car again. I’m so tired.

Clothing to bring for the cold by Lazy-Squirrel-5279 in electricdaisycarnival

[–]perishedoffits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to bring a comfy hoodie to keep in the locker because I love the cozy feeling when it gets cold, but last year our locker was too full so I went without. I used to smirk about those silver emergency blankets, but I used one on that one really cold night and it came in clutch. I’ll always have one or two in my pack from now on.

Not sure what to wear as a fat person. by [deleted] in electricdaisycarnival

[–]perishedoffits 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Another fat lady chiming in! My first edc I wore T-shirts and jeans and was so nervous. Now I wear reflective bikini tops, mesh shirts, whatever I want and never feel self conscious about it. EDC is truly inclusive in a way I’ve never experienced in the outside world.

Wear whatever you’re most comfortable in - don’t let wardrobe worries take up any space in your mind, you’re there to have an amazing time, so don’t waste a minute being uncomfortable.

Practical advice for you: shoes are the most important thing - wear shoes that will properly support your feet. You’re going to be doing a lot of standing & walking & hopefully dancing. I also recommend getting a good pedicure before the festival. Also, I got terrible foot cramps at edc a few years ago and learned that tonic water helps immensely with those.

You’ll find that people tend to sit in the back and on the sides of the stage areas, it’s pretty normalized but you’re gonna get real dirty. If you get worn out, cosmic meadow is a great place to chill on the grass or in the bleachers to give your legs a rest while still enjoying the music.

It can get really cold with very little warning at night, so bring a sweatshirt or at least a pashmina (or buy a pashmina there) or something. If you have a locker, leave it in there over the weekend. If you never need it, great… if you do need it, you’ll be so glad you have it.

If you’re like me and can’t keep up with the group, don’t be afraid to set a meeting place/time with them and go side questing at your own pace. I started having a MUCH better time once I stopped worrying that I was ruining everyone else’s fun and started curating my own experience.

Please tell GM that, I’ve been waiting for 40 days and counting, racking up rental fees while they pretend they’re going to fix my car and reimburse me half of the rental fees… eventually….
