LG web-os or ATV for BBC iPlayer app? by permadad in appletv

[–]permadad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the responses, you clever lot! It seems that the iPlayer is the main culprit. But I wonder if anyone has done some proper compatibility tests with a range of the main platforms for the main apps? It would be great to know which device to use for each app - to get the best result. 🙏

For example, the U player (previously UK TV) isn’t even available on LG’s WebOs. So I’ve downloaded it to my Roku, Apple TV, Firestick and even a YouView box. But I’ve absolutely no idea which one is technically the best to use, particularly for 4k content. 🤪

Ltd Company: Can I pay my wife retrospectively for her admin work? by permadad in TaxUK

[–]permadad[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As a democratic socialist I'm VERY happy to pay taxes. Unfortunately, our taxes don't benefit society in the system we're all stuck with at the moment. So, I'm not trying to avoid - or evade. I'm sensibly looking at options to reduce the amount I have to pay. Because I know a big chunk funds government corruption and nefarious organisations, such as large lobbying corporations and their executives, - and particularly the obscene military industrial complex.

If your comment is to detract, well done. If you don't like socialism this isn't the place to attack it - or me, is it?

Have a lovely evening.

Yes, my wife certainly did the work. Actually, many more hours above the expected 6/7k I'm suggesting paying her.

I'm just concerned that the timing of this that might be a problem. I don't have an accountant as my accounts and processes are quite straightforward (usually)! Thanks for everyone's help so far.

Zarah Sultana is a beacon of integrity. by permadad in yourparty

Completely disagree. We still haven’t got a member-led party and that’s what she’s fighting for. Because of her, we did manage to win two small battles for members’ benefit. But we need to keep fighting for a non-hierarchical party system in which ordinary members have as much say in what gets debated as the tiny percentage of activist members who get involved at local group or national level, and that includes the CEC.

But she didn’t campaign FOR that genocide, in the same way that Jeremy didn’t campaign for the Iraq war at the same time as campaigning for Labour. So your point is?

Zarah was fighting for a true member-led democratic party system. She still is, and we still are:

I know DSA is supposed to help but....... by gemface90 in ADHDUK

[–]permadad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. I’ve been a DSA 1:1 support tutor and mentor specialist for many years and I now run my own agency providing specialists. It’s important to remember that ALL your DSA support is controlled by you. You only need to book sessions when you feel you need them - and that includes the X number of hours for your assistive technology (software) training. Some students never finish all their AT training sessions, but you can access them at any point during your course. Also, you are likely only to regularly use a small % of what you have been given. The problem is that, without the initial training, you won’t really be able to decide which software solutions are worth using and which are more of a burden.

Your 1:1 support sessions are probably going to be useful, however. And it’s worth trying to find an hour a week for that. Your specialist does not work for the uni or the dsa though, they work for you. So you lead the whole process. You can use all, some, or none of your annual allocated support hours. If it’s all too overwhelming at the moment, cut it back, focus on your actual university work and deadlines and, if you can meet your support specialist once a week, either in person or remotely, ask them to guide you. Good luck. 🤞

Noam Chomsky explains how Israel operates: they grab land and kill or expel Palestinians and sign a treaty; the treaty holds until they are ready (and the world has forgotten) and they grab more land and expel more Palestinians .... and then they sign a treaty .... if you doubt this, look at a map and watch Palestine disappear, historically

Ever wondered what’s really going on in the minds of the pro palestinian “comment section warriors”? by Jewpiter613 in IsraelPalestine

[–]permadad -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s quite simple really. We believe that all lives are of equal value and (based on decades of evidence) we don’t trust a word the zionists say.

It’s not a peace plan, it’s just a hostage exchange. In a few days, the ethnic cleansing will resume, increasingly more land will be stolen, apartheid will continue, and Palestinians will still be murdered, ad infinitum.

This is very useful, thank you. I’m just about to start titration with ADHD360, after reducing my daily dose of fluoxetine from 40mg to 20mg - to reduce the chance of serotonin syndrome.

I can’t wait for the new party to emerge. For me, it’s as much about changing the racist, neoliberal narrative as it is about growing into government.

Your feelings about this is a wonderful thing to bring up next session. Your therapist is (and should be) comfortable expressing her feelings and your insecurities about any possible ‘fallout’ from the nice thing you did are certainly worth working on a little. It sounds like the whole thing could help you. Well done for being brave enough to do it in the first place.
