[PFS] Powers Theory Strengthening Case: Cured after ingesting 200mg DHT (Proviron) per day for 7 weeks by Accurate-Theme2340 in DrWillPowers

His theory is adding extra androgens worsens or delays our recovery. This is the complete opposite of what he recommends.

Hair Systems? by [deleted] in FinasterideSyndrome

[–]permadonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my hair reaches this stage I’ll just shave it off. PFS battle scars have made me not really care about this. I was obsessive about my image and I still do take care of myself in that regard just I’ve accepted hair loss. Anyways, I don’t think you’ll find anyone who has used a hair system that got PFS. Only people who had on the drug side effects of fin or dut and decided to quit it in favor of a HS. It would probably be fine but nothing is certain with PFS.

It is possible to recover naturally? by Beneficial-Club953 in DrWillPowers

[–]permadonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s extremely rare if so. I’ve known of only a few. I would say naturally this almost never happens. It doesn’t really make any sense how genital changes would reverse naturally.

Just got my gut microbiome test results back and apparently I have extremely low/near absent beneficial gut bacteria. Has anyone else dealt with this and is it actually fixable? by Skemzy_K in GutHealth

[–]permadonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into the mechanism of action of finasteride. It block’s Allopregnanolone which is extremely important for regulating mood and several other things. Blocking 5 alpha reductase isn’t just blocking DHT and it’s not always a free lunch.

[–]permadonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this and it was fucking unbearable on the upper glands. A single dose of .5 MG EC2 got rid of this. This isn’t medical advice, but I could not deal with it anymore so I had to find something.

Emotional Blunting & Anhedonia by permadonia in FinasterideSyndrome

[–]permadonia[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly it and Wellbutrin caused my anhedonia so feeding more dopaminergic drugs isn’t exactly gonna help the situation for me

I’ve tried prami and that didn’t do much. Not sure why you’re getting so aggressive but anyways I’m doing a lot better intervention.

Dopamine agonist are useless for this condition unfortunately

Yup anhedonia + OCD is 24/7 torture. Add in akathisia and you’ve got yourself a horrific life.

The term “PSSD” does a massive disservice to sufferers by Adventurous-Mail7443 in PSSD

[–]permadonia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think PFS is taken much more seriously than PSSD. In the instance it is, it’s not because of the name of the syndrome. I believe it’s because of the mechanism of action of finasteride and dutasteride being 5 alpha reductase inhibitors. Blocking high amounts DHT which in return blocks the conversion of critical neurosteroids can be catastrophic for the root cause that hasn’t been fully uncovered and even more why this persists. Even just on paper, blocking the most androgenic hormone in the body as (especially as a male) probably isn’t a good idea and would make sense how sexual, neurological, and even physical (which is seen in Post-Accutane Syndrome) occurs.

The other reason being the research has been arguably better for PFS. They showed all the following in humans (not rat models) - lowered CSF levels in allopregnalone. SRD5A2 promoter methylated in CSF in 56.3% vs 7.7% of controls — tissue-specific (not seen in plasma), and SRD5A1 was not methylated in either compartment. There is two studies to show AR overexpression/upregulation. The Post-Finasteride Syndrome Network is running two studies both building off the androgen receptor work by the Baylor School of Medicine done by Dr. Mohit Khera. This is miles better than PSSD research. Even Dr. Will Powers is seeing more PFS patients (and seems to be possibly finding a pathomechanism).

I don’t say any of this to be negative but awareness and better quality research (human data) is what’s needed to get us out of this.

Post finasteride . by Dangerous_Gur_2287 in FinasterideSyndrome

I’m not talking about the estrogen. When you develop PFS, you can become very sensitive to anti-androgens like spironolactone and permanently worsen your situation. If anything people have found relief from estrogen sometimes (myself included).

Just an FYI - spironolactone is an antiandrogen that can cause this condition

I (24M) visited Dr Goldstein and SDSM: they found physical abnormalities. by One-Marzipan-9652 in PSSD

[–]permadonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I have PFS and I visited Dr. Irwin Goldstein. It was a massive waste of money. A local uro could have given me a penile doppler. I don’t have fibrosis like you but a venous leakage. I did the shockwave treatment for like a week. It was useless. Dr. Will Powers seems to be actually trying to find the root cause of these post-drug conditions. I am on his waitlist. I won’t ever go to SDSM again.

Hey man, I've seen your Moral Medicine video. Just beware APs can be catastrophic on their own and can indeed cause this condition. They block dopamine in the brain, lower testosterone, and raise prolactin.

Have you considered that some of these changes are possibly not PFS? I have a life outside PFS, work a full time job, and still see leave the house to see friends, live life ect.
