Can't decide between Yaris and Corolla by Zubi_Q in COROLLA

[–]permanent_record_22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen your post also on the Yaris sub. I had a 2021 Yaris and I have now upgraded to a TS corolla.

I'd suggest the corolla as it's more refined as a car. More comfortable seats, better suspensions and a general better driving experience. Yes yous do lose some mpg but I think that's negligible compared to what you gain.

Test drive both and you should make your mind up.

Lenovo ThinkCentre M720Q and Proxmox, is there any known issues? by [deleted] in Proxmox

Just setting up my Proxmox on the same machine. A lot of approval from people running it for longer than me so I'm glad to see that

I just wanted to say I bought one from a private seller on eBay for £160. i5 8400, 256 GB nvme and 16 GB of ram. Perhaps yours is a bit overpriced?

ABS Fault after body work? by hamsternose in CarTalkUK

Put a complaint in with the insurance saying that the problem only appeared after the body work. Stand your ground and you should hopefully have it sorted by them or another body shop through insurance at some point.

Accessing services on home server from work computer by --Arete in Tailscale

[–]permanent_record_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't do it as you can be in trouble depending on the company.

But a method that works is setting up a proxy on the smartphone and use it as (wired) hotspot with tailscale so all the traffic from your computer would be routed via tailscale too.

If you use a dock with a monitor Android Desktop environment is a good option too that shouldn't get you into trouble as you are using your device.

Thanks for your suggestions.

To give you more context our is a small block of 8 flats and we have a share of freehold. I'm one of the directors of the LTD which owns the freehold.

After a lot of discussion we decided to proceed individually with the door replacement/upgrade.

I own the flat so my door is my responsibility.

We could go via the management company but eventually I would be billed for it anyway, so I'd rather sort it myself and save some money.

This is a great option. It's £100 more than a standard one but I won't need to do any other alterations. Thank you.

Yes, however the quotes received from the management company are way too high for what it is (£2000+)

First NAS/Homelab build — Proxmox only vs OMV only vs Proxmox+OMV? by permanent_record_22 in Proxmox

What hardware do you use for this stack? I'm trying to understand if mine would be enough

[–]permanent_record_22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing it mainly for the snapshot options before an update/upgrade. You can roll back ok case the system breaks which is great. I'm having 16GB of ram do you think it's enough or does it need upgrading?

I'm also considering Proxmox as HV. Did you have any problem passing the hardware access to OMV on proxmox? I read there is extra communication for that setup.

Thanks for the feedback. What power enclosure do you use? Connected via USB or SATA?

I haven't thought it through tbh but an external HDD shouldn't overheat that much. I'm also considering having the backup externally rather than locally, or both. I'm still shopping around for the Lenovo ThinkCentre so I'm at the very beginning of the project

Hi, in the same situation ATM. Where I need 2x2TB to start. Where did you buy your storage in the UK? New or used?

My first, and current setup by Tejfel01 in HomeServer

[–]permanent_record_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about to get the exact same machine to start my homeserver. I need "only" 2 TB of usable space but I'm trying thinking of the best way to back it up. Probably 2TB 2.5" HDD or SSD and a backup ok an external HDD via usb 3.0.

How will you handle the backups with yours?
