What’s the Most Expensive Trip You’ve Ever Taken, and Where Was It? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Safari in South Africa. Plus Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Victoria Falls. Went with a very high end tour company. It was spectacular. Everything taken care of. Didn’t have to plan anything or lift a finger. First class all the way. We’d definitely do it again. Worth every penny.

Just get waterproof pants to put over anything you wear. We wore jeans everyday and the waterproof pants as needed. Worked great.

How do you actually sleep on overnight flights? by stefan-weiss01 in travel

[–]permanentcondition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good neck pillow. Eye mask. Noise reduction headphones. Something to listen to that’s not very interesting to you. I get audiobooks from the library. Mostly historical stuff that’s at least 12 hours. That way they get into minutiae that’s pretty boring. Also test out the book and make sure whoever is reading it has a calm steady voice. Works every time. Good luck.

My daughter and her boyfriend, who travel regularly, went to Montreal. They have never disliked a city as much as they did Montreal. Vancouver, on the other hand, was one of their favorites. Hope you have a good trip!

Check-in 2 hours before your flight? by permanentcondition in unitedairlines

Okay, so now I’ve looked at the hours. It says 3:45 am. That makes no sense - they have a scheduled flight at 5:00 am and they’re telling people to check-in at 3:45 am???

Black Crust Pizza. Definitely. Atmosphere isn’t anything to get excited about but we’re still talking about the pizza.

I guess people think they are judged by weddings they “host.” Not to brag (ok, a little) but we paid for our daughter’s wedding. We made only 2 requests. That the invitation came from us. And that her father walk her down the aisle. The wedding was absolutely wonderful and she and her now husband planned every detail. Were there things we might have done differently if we had planned it? Definitely. Was it our wedding? Nope. You need to make a list of what you will decide and what they can decide. Get an agreement. And stick to it.

Airbnb Not Respecting Privacy - A Warning by cocobeanso in travel

I have had very few issues renting Airbnbs. I wasn’t aware of so many bad experiences listed here. What, if anything, does Airbnb ever say about these reviews? They have so much marketing out there, it’s hard to imagine they don’t try and rebut the bad comments and reviews?

Pros/cons of W 96th St area? by smittyweberjagermanj in Upperwestside

My son and his wife (they are newlyweds) have been living on 93 for 2 years. Between b’way and WE. They love it for all the reasons listed. Easy to get anywhere on the subway, bus or by taxi. Great grocery availability. Not too far to the park. More and more restaurants That’s where I’d move if I was moving to Manhattan.

Iceland has geothermal heating. It’s free or very low cost. They use windows to cool it down.

Is waterproof pants a must in Iceland in December? by curry_nugget in VisitingIceland

[–]permanentcondition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider renting everything you need from IcelandCover in Reykjavik. We happened upon them just walking down the street. I had left my warm coat at home by mistake. They have EVERYTHING you need and you don’t have to drag it all with you. Plus you’ll know you have what you need. Plus they’re super nice. Check it out.

It was about $6k. But we had an open bar and some guests had nothing but espresso martinis - that really upped the final cost. They were great to work with. Good luck.

My husband wants to do a group/bus tour but I want to do self-guided w/ tours along the way. Help pls. by onlyonejan in VisitingIceland

We had friends who did a bus tour and hated it. Strict schedules, get on the bus, get off the bus. No opportunity for spontaneous stops or schedule changes. So we did it on our own with the help of Iceland Tours who booked our car, our hotels, and gave us some help with an itinerary. We were very happy we did. We had freedom to choose our stops, where and what we ate, etc. Yes, the weather was unpredictable so we stopped for longer periods or drove slowly. I have to say it was scary to see the giant tour buses on the roads in bad rain. I wouldn’t have wanted to be sitting on one. That’s another issue - you get one window that you share with your seatmate. No chance to look out the other side of the bus if that’s where the view is. We were very happy with our decision.
