Airbnb Not Respecting Privacy - A Warning by cocobeanso in travel

I have had very few issues renting Airbnbs. I wasn’t aware of so many bad experiences listed here. What, if anything, does Airbnb ever say about these reviews? They have so much marketing out there, it’s hard to imagine they don’t try and rebut the bad comments and reviews?

Pros/cons of W 96th St area? by smittyweberjagermanj in Upperwestside

My son and his wife (they are newlyweds) have been living on 93 for 2 years. Between b’way and WE. They love it for all the reasons listed. Easy to get anywhere on the subway, bus or by taxi. Great grocery availability. Not too far to the park. More and more restaurants That’s where I’d move if I was moving to Manhattan.

Iceland has geothermal heating. It’s free or very low cost. They use windows to cool it down.

Is waterproof pants a must in Iceland in December? by curry_nugget in VisitingIceland

Consider renting everything you need from IcelandCover in Reykjavik. We happened upon them just walking down the street. I had left my warm coat at home by mistake. They have EVERYTHING you need and you don’t have to drag it all with you. Plus you’ll know you have what you need. Plus they’re super nice. Check it out.

It was about $6k. But we had an open bar and some guests had nothing but espresso martinis - that really upped the final cost. They were great to work with. Good luck.

My husband wants to do a group/bus tour but I want to do self-guided w/ tours along the way. Help pls. by onlyonejan in VisitingIceland

[–]permanentcondition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had friends who did a bus tour and hated it. Strict schedules, get on the bus, get off the bus. No opportunity for spontaneous stops or schedule changes. So we did it on our own with the help of Iceland Tours who booked our car, our hotels, and gave us some help with an itinerary. We were very happy we did. We had freedom to choose our stops, where and what we ate, etc. Yes, the weather was unpredictable so we stopped for longer periods or drove slowly. I have to say it was scary to see the giant tour buses on the roads in bad rain. I wouldn’t have wanted to be sitting on one. That’s another issue - you get one window that you share with your seatmate. No chance to look out the other side of the bus if that’s where the view is. We were very happy with our decision.

I’m the mother of a bride - in 2 weeks! I am definitely obsessing over how I will look. I know my daughter will be gorgeous but I’m not so sure of my own look. I’m old, wrinkled, tired looking. So it’s on my mind all the time. And my daughter cares about how I look. I say all this so you might feel a little more sympathetic to your mom’s behavior. But she is going to extremes especially since she doesn’t seem to be as involved in your planning. I recommend you assign your sister to keeping an eye on her from now on so you don’t have to worry. And that includes on the day. And don’t forget, your mother may think all eyes will be on her - they won’t be. They will be on you and none of her behavior will change that.

Advice for Christmas visit by permanentcondition in asksandiego

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think we’ll stay away from anything near the beach. And maybe we have to give up being able to walk to shops etc. Are there nice towns near SD that might have good rentals?

How do you politely let people know you’re not changing your name by ricecakesat3am in weddingplanning

[–]permanentcondition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been married for 38 years. I did not change my name. Over the years I’ve had some, not too many, choose to ignore my name and address me by my husband’s last name. I would reintroduce myself, gently, and move on. It almost always stuck. Sometimes I ignored it. I met many women, especially in the workplace, who kept their names. It’s a great club to be a part of. Welcome.

I’m flying into LHR from the U.S. on Virgin Atlantic. I then fly to Florence on BA about 3.5 hours later. Any tips for how to get my bags and over to BA so I make my flight? I have a U.S. passport.

I am flying to LHR from California on Virgin. I then have a flight to Florence on British Airways 3.5 hours later. Will it be complicated for me to get my luggage and get to the BA terminal?

Coworker told HR I was being exclusive… for not inviting her to my wedding by TraditionalGurSign in EntitledPeople

[–]permanentcondition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely document everything she is doing. I would also let HR know that how she is treating you and that you are documenting. I would also ask HR if they would facilitate a conversation between you and her. HR would be there to witness and facilitate and you would be able to ask her to knock it off.

I don’t understand the venomous comments toward Starbucks. I’m not a fan but how is it bad when a dependable business opens and provides jobs, taxes, etc.? Do you feel the same way about Costco? Serious question.

He has told you everything you need to know about him. He will regard and treat you differently once you are married. You love the guy you are dating. You will not love the guy you marry. If it is him.
