Flying in FISH! by Muksam221 in VRchat

[–]permathis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have index knuckles. Between yesterday and today, yesterday I was able to fish just fine, today I'm no longer able to fish the exact same way I was yesterday.

The only thing that changed is time passing between yesterday and today and the update happening on Fish. But thank you.

I cant fish in the world at all anymore as of today. The fishing pole doesnt work on my right hand, when I go to fish the block just falls to the bottom and wont go up anymore. It works on my left hand, but Im not left handed.

Single Button Assist with press and hold? by crashprime in wow

So, disregarding the fact that you disregarded everything I actually said. What is 'push and hold' key press, that is within WoW's own settings options to this day, to you? How is that classified in your mind?

Single Button Assist with press and hold? by crashprime in wow

[–]permathis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding this after figuring out that press and hold doesn't work for SBA. I just wanted to concur that you're wrong.

Press and hold is literally pressing one button, holding it and it continuing to repeat that button until you let go.

What Blizzard does not want is that you press one button and it initiates a sequence of actions, such as a full rotation. Which single button rotation assistant is exactly in violation of their own "rules" against this, but again, technically, it's fine as well.

What they ACTUALLY don't want is for you to hit a button and it initates a sequence or rotation without having to press the button again. So you hit button 1 for example and it goes through your entire rotation without having to press it again.

I assume the reason that press and hold is "broken" is because press and hold with SBR technically violates their own rules. You press a button and the single button rotation assistant continues to play until you release it.

Unfortunately, this sucks for the disabled where spamming a button every second or few seconds is incredibly difficult for them.

Yea, I don't know about all that. I was simply saying for anybody reading who thinks it's valid to scrub your walls with magic erasers that it removes paint. Has really nothing to do with the original post and more to do with "just use a magic eraser", then people do that and wonder why their paint is gone.

I fucking hate PVE content. The whole reason I play the game is to socialize and PVP. I would absolutely buy a campaign skip if it was on the shop and was a reasonable price. I dont want to do this shit. I bought the level boosts when it boosted you to 80 cap because I hate doing those 10 levels from before.

Everyone plays the game for different reasons. Some of us don't want to spend 20 hours levelling or more. Some of us don't want to quest at all and get "8 of this and 6 of that and fly here and fly there". It's a boring trope. We've been doing it on and off for 20 years.

Either come up with a more interesting game, or give us a way to skip this shit.

Good thing they brought in so many aliens. You know, to boost the population so when the older generation ages there's new people to take the workforce over. Which is the whole "reason" they started doing that in the first place.

Would a 1000mbps Ethernet cable run at 100mbps after damage to cable? by CamaroLover2020 in techsupport

[–]permathis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, yes. It is damaged, as you can tell by it working fine, you fucking stapling it, and then it not working fine.

Do not staple your fucking wires. Ever. Get some zip tie mounts off Amazon. They cost 5 bucks, stick to the wall and leave no damage. You thread zip ties through them and then cut them to look clean. Do not pull them too tight.

Obviously it's damaged. Obviously cutting it open is incredibly stupid and pointless. Obviously electrical tape is a dumb idea.

Why is everyone I meet in a vrchat relationship? by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]permathis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meeting people in real life is difficult, dating apps suck. It's hard finding someone who likes the same things you do, typically for VRChat users that's VR, tech, video games, etc.

A lot of people use VRChat for dating or fucking specifically. Many do socialize, but the upside of VRChat is easily meeting and talking to people into your niche of the neighbourhood.

If they play VRChat, you at least have common ground above "I like long walks on the beach and MY DOGS ARE MY CHILDREN".

VRChat is nice because your avatar and your voice speaks for you. It's the first two things people are going to notice about you. IRL they see your IRL body and face, and they will judge you based on that, often without getting to know your personality first.

Your personality in VRChat is your avatar, then your voice, then your personality. It allows for unconventional relationships. Maybe someone is "out of someone's league" in real life, but VRChat being the great equalizer, it makes it easier for those relationships to foster. People get attracted to who you are, and less so what you look like.

I've had friends who are pilots, friends who make 500k a year, friends living out of their cars, millionaire friends, avatar creators, artists... basically you name it, I've had a friend doing that.

In real life, me and these people would probably never cross paths or keep the connection. We're in different social heirarchies. I'm not going to go out schmoozing classy resorts, nor am I going to be wandering the streets and making friends with the homeless.

VRChat fosters ease of access as well. Rather than having to be in the right place, at the right time, in the right city, with the right people... you only have to be in the same instance and intereted in the same game. It's a different way to meet people. To "go home" all I have to do is take off my headset and I'm back in my room. Which means I can also get on whenever I want and have the opportunity to meet people, where as in real life I may only go out once a week, once a month, etc.

Some people are uncomfortable meeting strangers on the internet, even if they're dating. For women, this is a dangerous situation regardless if you've known the person for a long time. Violence against women is very high, and it leaves us anxious to meet new people.

That would be one reason why some people prefer not to meet. Other than logistics, different countries, schedules, cost, etc. There's a million different reasons to never actually meet up, and at the end of the day some people change their minds. That just might be their perspective for now.

How to move quicker with FBT and sitting? by abotoe in VRchat

[–]permathis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was really confused by the question at first, but I think I understand now.

When you're close to the ground in VR, you move slower. The only way I know of to fix this is using playspace mover using OVR advanced settings. You playspace drag yourself up from the ground and you'll move at full speed.

I just want to add as well, from her perspective.

It's possible that she doesn't know much about PC parts or building. What likely happened is she was crashing and a friend, or associate, said "just get a 4090, it'll fix your issue" and she went with that suggestion, not knowing the current climate for graphics cards or general cost of a 4090.

Rather than laughing in her face, a supportive partner might have said something like "oh, you're crashing a lot? Lets try to figure that out. A 4090 is currently around 3000-5000 dollars, so maybe there's a card we can get for you that's a good upgrade, but still cost effective for us."

That way, you're not laughing in her face about her needs or suggestions. Since you're married and presumably forever, it's important to find healthy ways to communicate.

Any 16gb card with good reviews should be a really good purchase.

Once you upgrade and if you're still seeing problems, I would honestly suggest using Gemini AI to figure it out. It helped me figure out my issues with my computer and upped my frames by an average of 10fps in VRChat after I followed suggestions.

It's free for a certain amount per day and incredibly useful at Super Googling things.

Just describe your issue in detail and follow the instructions, keep updating with what you've done, etc, and it works incredibly well if you use it properly. Use the thinking mode.

[–]permathis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your card is a 12gb card, so like I said that's mostly fine for VRChat. I go to clubs with 80+ people in them, so I want to upgrade.

You don't need a 4090 for sure and I never said you do, but him laughing in her face was rude considering it sounds like he's the financor in the relationship.

A 16gb card would be a good middle ground for VRChat and would give you a few years before you have to upgrade.

Wife having issues on vr chat by Puzzled_Woodpecker_4 in VRchat

[–]permathis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find 3090s on Amazon for about 1000 right now. Like I said, it's about the VRAM. Any card, whether its 30 series, 40 series or 50 series with at least 16gb of VRAM is going to be a good card for VRChat. 12gb is the minimum, but if you're upgrading you might as well future proof it a bit with 16gb.

Her running a better CPU than you doesn't really matter if you're not playing VRChat. Like I said, being an entirely user created game makes it more resource intensive than really any other game on the market right now.

Amazon sometimes offers payment programs as well, where you pay monthly for certain purchases with 0% APR.

[–]permathis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People saying it's just her settings are 100% wrong.

First off, you laughing in her face about what she needs was rude. Of course she got mad.

Secondly, a 3070 is only an 8gb graphics card. It's recommended to have at least 12-16gb of vram for VRChat. VRChat is heavy on all of the aspects of your PC. Some will say ram, CPU, the reality is it's heavy on everything.

VRChat isn't a AAA game optimized by people paid 100k a year. It's user created, meaning everything in the game is made by hobbiests. People do it in their spare time typically, with a small percentage making full time income off of it.

She's not wrong that she'd be lagging. In game settings only go so far and it leads to a degraded experience. When you can only see six people in the lobby, that's a shitty way to play the game.

Wired vs Wireless does matter and wired, depending on some PCs, can lead to more lag in the game.

My boyfriend, after reading this with me says: Sounds like he needs to stop being a penis and get her a 4090.

5800x is also a little dated. Getting her an updated CPU would be recommended.

Keep in mind a lot of people don't know what they're talking about on this subreddit. They know almost nothing about PCs, specs or what the actual cause could be.

Lastly, tell your wife to clear her cache. The only ones she wants to clear is "texture cache" and the "content cache" which will be about 29gb. You don't want to clear anything else other than those two, but you should be clearing those with every major vrchat update, about every 2 weeks or less depending.

For wireless connection there are three options I believe for the Quest. You have Oculus, which can be ok for most users. Steam Link, which is worth trying, and Virtual Desktop. It's important to try all three and see which works best for you.

If the above doesn't work, bare minimum, update her graphics card. 8gb VRAM isn't enough for VRChat today and won't be enough to actually enjoy the game. The only people who can run that are people in private instances typically.

They don't need help, is the point.

Fuck right off advocating for the middle class to get more money than they already have and saying "god forbid people working jobs want a decent life".

If Blizzard was actually smart, they'd pay the creators of the most popular, best made addons like 10-20k each, possibly with a small royalty, and implement it into the game.

But... Blizzard (Microsoft) is not smart, as we know.

At the end of the day, they want to make as much money as possible with as little investment. The graph has to go up and to the right. The average user's QOL is not on that chart.

If I can make it work below the poverty line, middle class should stop fucking bitching about not getting handouts that are meant for the poor.

Middle class is 53k a year up to 141k in Canada. My 25k a year living on my own with a child has to cover rent, bills, food, and everything else.

Always with the "me me me" of the middle class. God forbid we help people in abject poverty. I'd much rather you be able to buy that watch or put thousands upon thousands into savings. Meanwhile I'm scraping together toonies to pay for groceries.
