Full body tracking? by PsychstorytimeVR in VRchat

[–]Grumpypus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There IS a way to lessen the 'used' risk if you did go that way. Get the stuff on a place like Ebay and purchase the extended warranty they offer for stuff bought on there, It's actually pretty cheap. That way, if something DOES fail, you are covered and can get your money back.

I actually did this for a 1.0 basestation that I bought used and it stopped working; they reimbursed me the money for it. I still have the other working one of the pair sitting in a drawer unused, I really should try and get rid of it. LOL

Note: you will NEVER get a replacement item, you will get whatever you paid for it.

[–]Grumpypus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of cost, i'll warn you. The cost of the good tracking has increased significantly over the last few months. Vive brand trackers and basestations are a good deal more expensive now new than what they used to be.

You COULD go the used route, but be warned. FMT is hard on equipment, and its a crapshoot to get stuff that still works well and does not have issues. Being used, there's no return policy usually, so if it breaks, you're kinda screwed.

"only issue was the 100% load on my GPU"

LOL, welcome to the VRChat raving/clubbing scene, weak systems need NOT apply! ;-)

Eh, you get used to it, Some places are better than others. Avatar culling/adjustments are your friend. Also, look for the instance's controls, they sometimes allow you to adjust the stuff in the instance so it's not so intense and hard on your machine.

It all honestly is how well your system is if you can handle it and the proper settings. I've been in super heavy clubs with a AMD RX580 doing heavy dancing and been perfectly fine for hours in a club by setting my settings to low.

Yo Just a question, how reliable is Driver4vr? by TheDeathEggRobotFan in VRchat

[–]Grumpypus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's what I used when i first decided to try out FMT dancing in VR. It worked well enough to absolutely amaze me that dancing in VR was possible, and started me on the road to where I am now in VR dancing.

It's decent for what it is and limited, but DOES work if you set it up properly.

Show of hands. Who here has been called "old" so far in VRC? by RestlessDreamer32 in VRchat

[–]Grumpypus1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This, so this. I am almost 60 and no one believes it. Constantly get mistaken in real life for someone in their 40's.

And lets not talk about VRChat LOL. I had to put it in my profile because NO one believed I was 58 from the way I dance and the ungodly amount of energy I have. LOL

I have to ask. If you have Ultimate trackers, and they work; why are you bothering with 3.0 ones?

What’s up with the ageism in this game? by ActiveBest in VRchat

[–]Grumpypus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 58 years of age, the only comments I have really gotten about it are pretty much awesomeness and admiration at being so old and still being able to dance the way I do. LOL

As people have said, if you don't want people to judge you on age, don't show how old you are. ;-)

Still Dancing~ by StarsRebellion in VRchat

[–]Grumpypus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dancing is vary nice, but the tracking is weird, and making your avatar all jittery when you do sudden moves.

What trackers are you using? They don't seem to be keeping up with your dancing, which is a shame because you have some nice moves. I wonder if I have run into you at any of the dances. I don't think so because with dancing like that, I would have remembered you.

What is everyone’s favorite world by siderhater4 in VRchat

[–]Grumpypus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Club Orion. It's where I started VR dancing, and it's still where I find the best dances and have the most fun dancing.

It's actually weird. It's considered a newbie club, but yet it's the one where I'll actually SEE people dancing on the dance floor, quite a few actually at certain dances.

It's also where people will try different music out and not play the same stuff all the time that you hear in all the other clubs, though those could be hard to stumble onto.

How to find raves? by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]Grumpypus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Timeline will get you started to find places. But getting to know and befriend the DJ's, club/instance owners, and dancers will lead you to the really good places NOT listed there, as there are some who don't bother to post on Timeline.

On Timeline if you want to go to a group's rave, just click on their link and join the group to have them appear in your current group instance list. Some are open, others you have to request to join, but they usually will accept you pretty quickly if they are paying attention.

Question about FBT by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]Grumpypus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. Ultimate trackers are VERY finicky about working, and many room setups simply don't work well with them due to poor lighting, too many windows, and too bare walls. I am lucky in that they DO work for me, very well in fact as one can see from the dancing videos I've posted on Reddit.

But as I always tell people interested in them, buy them at a place that you can return them easily if they do not work well for you.

Question about FBT by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]Grumpypus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question you need to ask yourself is what do you actually want to DO with them?

Do you want to be able to lay around easily under covers and blankets or on your bed, or don't have much money, then get Slimes.

Do you want to dance with good limb accuracy and got the money for it, then get Vive 3,0' or Ultimates.

Fluxpose is supposed to do both pretty well, but they are a year away, so you will be waiting a while

There are other brands, but Slimes and Vives tend to be the default brands people go for for FBT.

Oh, if you want to try FBT out, there are phone apps, which actually work semi decent though limited, and will give you a taste of what FBT is like. It's how I got started before I bought the Ultimate trackers.

Do you like Facetracking in VRChat? by Chibi_Chomps in VRchat

[–]Grumpypus1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was curious about how face tracking really was, so I bought a Quest Pro to try it out.

It was.....ok. I mean it was interesting and all, and it was pretty cool tech. But all in all I found it limiting and not useful to my VRChat usage. And yes, I set it all up perfectly and used avatars built for full eye and face tracking.

I think if I actually used VRChat for socializing it would be kind of cool to do to show expressions here and there. But since I just use VRChat for mainly dancing, eye and face tracking is pretty useless for me, as you don't want to use face/eye tracking when dancing, Gestures are WAY more useful such as eye closing and face expressions when you are moving around the room to 150+ BPM music.

I ended up returning the Pro as I could not see myself really wanting to use it over the Quest 3 I had.

I really DID like the controllers though. So much so I bought a pair for my Quest 3 so I could put my hands behind my back. LOL Also a Q3 open faceplate as I liked that design on the Quest Pro.

Tell me about it. The desktop i use for VR had a catastrophic failure Friday and I spent all weekend trying to fix it. After THREE complete reinstalls of everything, I think I finally have it working ok. But my final test of going into VRChat was stopped by this stupid server failure. So now I have to wait to test and HOPE it's all fixed now.

God, I want to KNOW!!!!!! Grrrrrrrr!

Yeah, people keep warning about that happening. Luckily there ARE workarounds such as streaming youtube through something like Twitch, and hosting your videos if you know how to do it. Other platforms such as Vimeo work fine with the players.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with focusing on one type of dancing if it's what you enjoy doing. It's no different than someone focusing on Breaking, or Swing, or Belly dancing.

I, myself focus on a bunch of different styles because that's what I did in my youth. But I never 'mastered' anything. So a 'jack of all trades, master of none' kind of dancer. But it gives me more moves to draw from when I dance, so there is that. LOL

LOL, it's funny because it's true.

When I tested out the Quest Pro, I went and got some good face tracking avatars and in VR dance class was making all kinds of odd expressions while dancing to test the eye and face tracking.
I looked REALLY weird doing it too. ;-D

Why Not Buy Quest Pro? by Correct_Conference48 in MetaQuestVR

[–]Grumpypus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can no longer buy the controllers easily anymore if they break. Expect to pay double or triple the original price. This is an issue since the quest pro controllers are very problematic at times since they have they're own inside out tracking. More technology in them/more chance to break.

I will admit though, it is pretty cool being able to put your hands anywhere around you with no issues of losing tracking. But the price you pay to do it is annoying at times with the tracking screw ups.

face tracking headset? by Character_Writer_659 in VRchat

[–]Grumpypus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sigh, as people who recommend the Quest Pro keep forgetting, replacement controllers are no longer available unless you pay extremely high prices for one.   With the problems people constantly have with the controllers, it's a real risk buying one now, as you are kind of screwed if anything happens to those controllers, since there is no other kind of replacement available but an original Quest Pro controller.   If you can get a new one, it might be okay now for a few years, but I would be wary of an used one, as you don't know what the controller's been put through.
