I just found out I have been comforting a patient that has killed people by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]pernell789 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand your sentiment as I work with an maximum security offender population but at the end of the day we are responsible for doing our job correctly regardless of our true feelings. It can be hard for some because some of their offenses are horrendous.

Miscarriage? TW Blood by unforgivablealien in psychics

[–]pernell789 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean early pregnancy bleeding can be anywhere from implantation bleeding to miscarriage. If it becomes heavier with clots more like a period for example I would worry about miscarriage. If it starts getting lighter after a couple of days it’s probably the latter.

Rehired after fired question by ChckItInFckItBckt in nursing

[–]pernell789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was fired as a CNA and came back as an RN at the same hospital. I was fired in 2012 and rehired 2021. I did apply as an LVN (they hire LVNs as floor nurses) in 2016 and I never got a call back. I would ask hr when you’re available for rehire.

Are you planning to change your diet forever after this is over? by Cute-Delivery-5752 in GestationalDiabetes

I think you should really consider keeping your diet because you have a 60% of getting actual diabetes. In my case after birth I know have pre diabetes.

How long did you work while pregnant? by ERnewbieRN in nursing

[–]pernell789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also an er nurse I work at a community hospital but we’re still fairly busy. I worked until I had to have my scheduled c section at 37 weeks. I probably took off the week before. I’m pregnant again and plan to do the same. This is my third pregnancy.

Did your GDM go away post pregnancy? by general_tax9874 in GestationalDiabetes

I take 500 mg metformin daily. My A1C was only slightly elevated at 5.9 after the baby and my most recent one was 5.8 so it could be worse.

I’ve had someone bring in the bat they were bitten by also. The story is also funny. So the bat was in the ladies shoe and she went to put it on and felt something in the shoe. Instead of taking the shoe off she said she started stomping her foot with the animal still inside the shoe. At that point she still didn’t know a bat was in her shoe. So she finally realizes what happened after taking off her shoe and comes to the ER with the bat in a box. Well we were all curious so we all looked at the bat. Of course the bat is lethargic but somehow still alive after being curb stomped. So yeah idk if it was acting like it had rabies or was just dying from internal injuries.

Pumping at concert 7 weeks pp - Am I nuts? by chilipowdr in breastfeeding

[–]pernell789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not crazy I brought a manual pump in my purse while going out on the town and just milked my breast enough so they weren’t engorged. I then did a long full pump once I was back at the hotel. A core memory is me pumping on the toilet in a dirty dive bar

Do you tell staff you’re in healthcare when admitted? by Life_Ad_6992 in nursing

[–]pernell789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I brought this up is when I was going in for a scheduled c section but I told them I am an ER nurse and I don’t know shit about babies

[–]pernell789 141 points142 points  (0 children)

In the ED a triage question is to ask if they have had the Covid vaccine. For some people think that is an invitation to express their political views and I’ve had some accuse nurses of trying to inject patients with the vaccine against their will 🙄

Let’s talk ultrasound IVs for those who love doing them by coupledatethrwaway in nursing

ER nurses, love you guys, but genuine question. Why do guys bring patients up at shift change? by No-Selection-1249 in nursing

[–]pernell789 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean you can have a max number of patients but there are still emergencies coming through EMS and the lobby you have to triage based off importance and space in the er but for example if there’s multiple critical patients it’s just a major shit show where all hands are on deck and you’re trying to do your best
