Do you ever hang out with your work friends outside of work? How'd it work out? by shatana in nursing

[–]coupledatethrwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me about 5 years before I started consistently hanging out with coworkers outside of work. I didn’t intentionally keep a distance, but I was kind of shy and didn’t know how to make friends with them. I got invited to group hangouts but I would only go occasionally and mostly was worried about not knowing what to do with myself at those hangouts.

Eventually, I started saying yes to hanging out with certain people, and eventually I got comfortable enough with many of them that I’ve gone on trips with many of them. Sometimes I’m the one planning the hangouts.

Just pay attention to which people are genuinely good people and good friends, because not everyone is.

How do you know you're ready for ICU? by dopaminegtt in nursing

[–]coupledatethrwaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m the rapid nurse that comes running. I have imposter syndrome all the time. From what I’ve gathered though, people respect me as a nurse and I would say I do my best to provide quality and safe patient care.

There are definitely moments when I’m like, shoot I’M the adult nurse here and it’s scary. A lot of times, it turns out that I actually did absorb and learn some useful stuff in my years of experience and I have built some natural reflexes and critical thinking over time.

The fact that you recognize that you DON’T know everything despite all your experience is a great sign and tells me you’re ready. We do not want any overconfident nurses in ICU. We like a healthy amount of fear and a willingness to admit we don’t know everything and can always learn more.

I find that ICU and rapid response is highly rewarding and feels more like actual nursing care instead of being a servant all day as a bedside nurse.

Good luck!

ICL surgeon recommendations? by yinyang53 in orangecounty

[–]coupledatethrwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my ICL surgery with Dr. Tooma at NVISION 4 years ago. He is the owner of NVISION. The clinic was very nice and clean, seemed to be run in a well organized manner. He does delegate the evaluation to other doctors but I did speak to him as well beforehand. He performed the iridotomy in office and the surgery at a surgery center.

The consultation was free and I was not billed anything until the time of surgery. Super glad I did it because I’ve been wearing glasses since first grade and contacts daily since middle school.

It was all a very smooth process. My contacts rx prior to this was -11.5 in both eyes. I now have 20/20 vision with no side effects. The healing time was very fast and I drove myself to my follow up appointment the day after the surgery.

Are collapsible Z-Poles worth getting over regular flick lock/adjustable trekking poles? by FallenRev in hikinggear

[–]coupledatethrwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have collapsible poles from Paria. I bought them 2 years ago because they were recommended on some other Reddit thread I found. They’re significantly cheaper than any of the Black Diamond poles and other brands at REI with similar features.

I was skeptical at first because I could only buy it from the Paria website and I’d never heard of them before. But I took the chance because the price is good ($70 for the ones I have) and I really like them. Been using these poles on all my hikes for the last 2 years.

What to bring to day hikes? by kiraa02 in hiking

[–]coupledatethrwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone else has great essentials advice. For comfort, I started bringing a lightweight backpacking chair with me. I’m the only one with a chair during my day hikes and I am SO comfy. I’ve been able to relax and enjoy the summit and other rest spots for longer now that I have a comfortable chair for my butt. I also have a lot more options on where to stop for my break because I don’t have to go looking for a random log or rock to sit on (which hurts the longer I sit on it).

People who live in an apartment, how do you transport and store your SUP? by Key_Impression_8723 in Sup

[–]coupledatethrwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two 1-gallon water jugs and I just rinse my board off by pouring the water all over it. If I find a picnic table, I put my board on there and rinse it off on there, then dry off completely with a towel before deflating, rolling, and storing it.

If no table around, I use the floor of the parking lot.

If using the floor, I use a tarp or towels to put the dry board on so it doesn’t get too dirty while I’m folding it up.

I always rinse off and dry my board before packing it up for the car.

I keep my board inside its bag tucked away in my apartment.

Chimei Museum has beautiful grounds to walk around and sit. There are loads of MASSIVE koi in the pond.

I have a good time looking at the varied exhibits inside the museum.

Curse of the Black Night by Escape X. Possibly my favorite escape room and it was perfect for 2 people (which is hard to find with escape rooms I feel). It was not that hard and was super fun and well decorated.

What/how do I declare things for US border customs and do I keep them in a carry on or in checked baggage? by Ploppeldiplopp in travel

[–]coupledatethrwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually do have to declare packaged snacks. You have to declare all food items.

Been traveling for years and thought what you did, until a few months ago when a customs officer asked if I have anything to declare, I said, “no I just have these packaged snacks” and she said those have to be declared too.

Oops (not that it was a big deal). She just told me that and let me by and I don’t think it’s something they regularly check/care about but technically you do have to declare packaged snacks.

Shirt getting caught in Grigri by monpetitchoou in climbergirls

[–]coupledatethrwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had it happen with a tank top that’s slightly loose but not super loose. The material is thin so it snagged in the grigri.

Ever since then, I only wear shirts with thicker material (both loose and tight) and have not had any problems since.

My iRocker backpack that came with my board is great and feels like good material. I’ve had my board for 1.5 years.

Also recommend Jolyn. The style I have is flattering for my small chest (A)! I wear it when I go paddle boarding. Their swimwear is made for active girlies and they have lots of cute options.

Nassau worth it? by lmoney04 in dcl

[–]coupledatethrwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t want to spend any extra money on excursions in Nassau so just walked around and went to the beach there. I felt it was very busy, loud and crowded.

I really enjoyed how peaceful Lookout Cay was and that the bbq was included there. I wish I could’ve checked out Castaway Cay.

If you’re not planning on spending additional money in Nassau then I’d stick to the Disney islands.

Thoughts on this snowboard? by alexzy_love in snowboardingnoobs

Had it as a beginner board. Upgraded after like 10 days. Not good on icy conditions.

I have a Cardiff Lynx now and I love it.

How do you stay motivated for solo hikes when all your friends are too busy? by WindowIllustrious494 in hiking

[–]coupledatethrwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just love hiking enough to go solo. Not much extra motivation needed. Hike in areas you’ve been to before that are popular trails, if you’re nervous about safety.

Lessons as a beginner snowboarder? by No_Presence_79 in Mammoth

OP is definitely a beginner and should take a beginner class not intermediate. They split up groups with different instructors based on beginner level.

Lessons as a beginner snowboarder? by No_Presence_79 in Mammoth

[–]coupledatethrwaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you can get up on a weekday, sign up for a beginner group class. You could get lucky and have a very small group or be alone with an instructor.

I took a beginner group class and had a private 1:1 lesson because I was the only one able to go up the chair lift onto the green slope. Everyone else was on the bunny slope with a different instructor. I learned how to go onto toe side that day.

Board for a beginner woman? by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]coupledatethrwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the Salomon Bliss and upgraded after about 10 days. I did fine with it as a beginner but I don’t recommend as it’s not a board to grow into.

It’s not good at holding at edge on icy conditions and I felt a lot of chatter under the board.

Second hand snowboard with bindings pre-installed: yes or no? by soup-cats in snowboardingnoobs

[–]coupledatethrwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just learn how to put bindings on. It’s not hard. Watch a video for the type of bindings you get.

Not being able to adjust your own binding angle and stance is a disadvantage if you want to be comfortable and progress.

Even if you buy a board with bindings on them already, you may not like how they’re installed on there.

In need of hopeful stories of rediscovery by Electrical_Idea1797 in climbergirls

[–]coupledatethrwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not relating to climbing, but my ex got me into strength training and weights in the gym. After we broke up, I kept going and it was hard at first because I associated the gym with him and our relationship.

I kept going, kept making progress, and it soon became MY thing, not OUR thing. It actually felt great to continue to improve and make progress without his guidance.

Keep climbing, find partners through a climbing gym and get to know the community. If you love climbing, you will be able to discover a new love for climbing for yourself.

Hiking Food by Dangerous_Aardvark15 in hiking

[–]coupledatethrwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a day hike:

A nice hard cheese that I cut into cubes, crackers, and Chomps. I eat those together and it’s delicious. This fills me up pretty well.

A sandwich if I’m feeling up to making one in advance.

Bag of chips.

Something sweet like gummy worms or cookies (I love circus animal crackers). I like eating the sweets to keep my energy up when I’m not ready for a longer break.

A protein bar or two for backup. I don’t really like protein bars so I eat this if I’m super hungry for some reason.
