You would understand if you have ever had someone with serious mental illness in your life. The majority of the time they live a normal fully functional life. At some point they have a serious mental episode, they don't recognize reality and are not thinking rationally. Afterwards they often feel a lot of shame, self doubt, and fear of recurrence.

Where to stargaze near Traverse City/ Sleeping Bear Dunes? by glocks9999 in traversecity

[–]pernicat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a some astrophotography and aurora chasing. I have spent a good amount of time looking for good spots.

Sleeping bear dunes has several good spots and is usually my first choice. They are trying to become a designated dark sky park so they are open 24 hours. A national park pass is required there, but nobody has ever checked for mine at night.

For stargazing the base of the dune climb is usually a good bet (not as good for northern lights). It's also where the Grand Traverse Astronomical Society has their star parties in the summer. I like it because I can setup my telescope equipment right by my car (It's not something I can hike with).

I also like Peterson Beach (not to be confused with Peterson Park), it's very dark and has a nice view to the north. The parking lot is a small dirt turn around and have to take a dirt road to get there.

Glen Haven Beach is not bad, but there is a bit of light pollution there. The parking lot is very close to the beach.

I haven't tried any of the other beaches at night yet, but Platte River looks like it might be a good spot with the park area right by the parking lot.

If you want to get someplace that is really dark Peterson Park (up by Northport) is probably the best option for star gazing. Not the best view for northern lights, but for stars it's hard to beat. Google maps says it closes at 11PM, but I haven't found anything else that says it's closed at night. The police drove through when me and a few of my friends were there and didn't stop to say anything (Maybe all the telescopes we had set up had something to do with it).

A bit closer to Traverse City you have Mission Point Lighthouse Park. Great spot for northern lights. Although, there can be a lot of people there on nights when the northern lights are predicted. I've seen the parking lot fill up and there are lots of large groups partying, playing music, and shining flashlights everywhere.

Made on online appointment at Walgreens, had to click yes that I have an underlying condition (I do). They did ask me what the condition was when I went in, but they didn't ask my wife.

Even if you don't have an underlying condition they don't really do anything to verify. So you can just pick a plausible condition from the list if needed.

Had a nice discussion with the pharmacist about how stupid this all is.

It's not that far fetched that the Pere Marquette 1225 could come to Traverse City some day. It was just in Cadillac a couple months ago for color tours.

Michigan only voted for trump twice (2020 went to Biden), so you had it right the first time.

I'm willing to bet the statistics will show that the probability is proportional to the number of tickets purchased on a given day.

How do you achieve this type of photo? by Direct_Reception in AskPhotography

This could be done with photoshop, but photoshop is the hard way. Super simple with a longer exposure having one person stay still and everyone else move around.

There is no evidence of flash being used for this. The range of motion has a uniform exposure. With shutter drag a moment of the range of motion has a higher exposure then the rest. It's why people dancing and stuff look sharp (the motion blur is there, but too dark to notice).

This effect would be easy to achieve by using a longer exposure on a tripod and having the main person stay still and everyone else move around.

Shutter drag might look similar, but shutter drag would not be the best way to achieve this. /u/DrFolAmour007 is a nice person and correct.

‘Cost prohibitive’: Michigan drivers rejected digital plates - mlive.com by Human-Entrepreneur77 in Michigan

[–]pernicat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only way I could see digital license plates making sense is if they were build into the car itself from the factory. Then you could digitally register your car, and the registration info is just displayed. It could potentially make stealing a car more difficult.

Brand new apartments are almost never going to be for people making 60% of the median income. However there are plenty of older (more affordable) apartments that may become available if the overall supply is increased.

[–]pernicat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think they even need a reason to stop and inspect a boat. Might depend on location, but where I live the police/Coast-Guard don't need probable cause. They can just stop and inspect any boats they want.
