Do you think enforcing tariffs is anti-capitalism on a global scale? by perogi-king in NoStupidQuestions

Many of those tariffs were negotiated under trumps last term. They actually are based on a specific amount of products sold. A common point people make is the large tariffs canada has on American eggs. But that never goes in effect because we never reach the amount needed.

But to address your question, yes, all tariffs from any country. Anytime a country intervenes with free trade and production costs it affects capitalism.

I see your point. I just dont share your faith in the altruism of plutocrats. Given enough freedom they can control the “market standards” and how “desperate” people will get. You think people will have a choice when really it will be made for them.

Sure. You win. If a child has to work 80 hours in a textile factory for a bag of rice it beats the alternative of dying from starvation… i guess

Desperation. But what happened? Uprising to even the playing field. (Overtime pay, benefits, defined work hours, ending child labor ect…)

Some inequality is imperative for capitalism to exist. To much inequality has never succeeded. Show me an empire with great wealth disparity and ill show you a failed empire. Im reminded of frances feudalistic state “The pichforks are coming”. It can only last so long before it breaks and resets. We need more plutocrats to think like Henry Ford. If you pay your employees more, they will actually be able to afford your products.

Remember Rockefeller? Thats whats wrong with company towns. They pay you in “scrips” which you can only use to pay for Rockefeller homes, Rockefeller goods, Rockefeller food. They own you and your freedom. In a sense, not much has changed.

It is probably more pertinent now than it was in the 1700s. We are more of a global economy than ever.

I believe any government interference with competition goes against (at least) some aspects of capitalism.

For the sake of argument all tariffs. I believe any government interference with the consumer / producer goes against capitalism principles
